Listerine was first formulated in1879 by Dr Joseph Lawrence and Jordon Wheat Lambert and believe it or not was originally formulated as a surgical antiseptic! It has also been used for quite a few other things before it became the mouthwash we know today, the best being a floor cleaner and a cure for gonorrhea!
It wasn't until the 1920's that it became a success as a mouthwash, the Listerine Company basically created the ... ...trouble in 1976 as the Listerine people claimed that the mouthwash could help ease sore throats and as a remedy for colds but there was no proof of this and they were forced to drop this and to tell people in their advertising that this was not true. Listerine is one of the better known mouthwash brands on the market, with a total of 8 different mouthwashes available. ...excited to find this new Listerine Antibacterial Mouthwash, Stay White version in Sainsbury's a few weeks ago.
It was approximately £2.50 for a 500ml bottle which I didn't think was too bad. We decided to go for the smaller 500ml bottle as opposed to the 1 litre as we never seem to go through a litre bottle and it always stays on the shelf and then I think it won't be that fresh. With the 500ml bottle we will use this quicker although it does have ... ...If you have never used Listerine mouthwash it is very easy to use. Basically you take a mouthful of the liquid, rinse it around your teeth and gums for approximately 30 seconds and then spit out. DO NOT SWALLOW. It contains a lot of chemicals so never swallow it. It says on the bottle to pour some of the liquid into a glass before you drink it but I just use the cap as I find it easier. The nice thing about the cap is that it has a child safety lock ...

...others are not so pleasant, Listerine Total Care works well so I have just learned to live with that clinical taste.
A 95ml bottle will cost you around £1.40, so this is a fairly expensive product. Each time you use the Listerine mouthwash you are supposed to use 20ml, so expect the bottle to last for about 3 weeks.
The pink mouthwash comes in a bottle that looks clinical and efficient.
The instructions tell you that Listerine has six benefits, ... ...my breath fresh. When the Listerine is swilling around my mouth it makes my mouth feel tingly and you can feel the liquid seeping in between your teeth and washing around your gums, you need to swill the Listerine around inside of your mouth vigorously to make sure that it reaches all of the nooks and crannies.
When I have finished my routine of cleaning my teeth and then using the Listerine my mouth feels fresh and that in turn gives me more confidence ...

Listerine mouthwashes were one I regularly used so when I saw the Listerine total care on offer at my local convenience store at half price £1.99 for 500ml I thought well why not. I found out once I got home and tried it for the first time that it was very strong in taste and didn't think I would continue using it but as you use it you become used to the initial burn and it turns to a fairly pleasant fresh mint after you rinse.
... ...label on the front with Listerine Total care printed in big letters. (please note the picture ciao have given is incorrect and is infact a picture of listerine coolmint).
If you are looking for a new mouthwash because yours is not doing it for you or if you just like to try other products then give this a go it's not brilliant but it is better than a lot of others.

Advantages: Kills bacteria, fresh breath protection, child proof cap. Disadvantages: Expensive, tastes unpleasent, not suitable for children.
-Appearance-
Listerine total is a unique purple colour which immediately put me in mind of bubblegum; I was relieved to find that the it was the same fresh minty taste I had become accustomed to from the regular range. It features a shiny silver label featuring the 6 product's claims. I have included a picture for more information.
-Use-
It is directed on the back of the packaging to use Listerine twice a day after brushing. Not only does it provide ... ...Even having used the regular Listerine range, I was incredibly impressed with how squeaky clean my teeth felt even after the first use.
-Taste-
Listerine total has quite a strong minty taste. Like other products in the Listerine range, it contains alcohol, so you can feel an unpleasant burn when you start using it. Be sure to spit it out when you're done because it can be poisonous if swallowed.
-Not for Children-

I have used this product off-and-on for a number of years. It can also be fun, if you like practical jokes. I occasionally go for dirty weekends in Blackpool - one time, I went with my best friend. She hadn't taken heed of Chris Evans' advice, and had forgotten her toothbrush. How embarassing for her, and to protect her identity, in case she, or someone she ... ...found that odd. I use Listerine to mask the smell of alcohol, if I've been drinking on a work night. Its extremely effective, and needed - my boss once ordered me to buy some mints from a vending machine, as she was starting to feel tipsy in my presence, but the only thing I could find was a mint Aero. After eating that, she said I smelt more like Bailey's and was more contented. Since using Listerine, she thinks I drink Creme de Menthe of a night ...

I started using listerine total care after seeing the advert saying it has 6 benefits in 1 and as i sometimes scratch my gums with my toothbrush i thought i would give it a try to make them stronger. And i have to say that honsetly it has done the trick. No more weak gums and extremely clean teeth and fresh breath.
I find the product is widely available and have seen it in most stores including boots, superdrug ... ...The benefits of listerine total care are as follows:
-reduces plaque
-maintains healthy gums
-strengthens teeth against decay
-prevents tartare to keep teeth naturally white
-kills upto 99.9% of oral bacteria
-upto 24 hour fresh breath protection
This product is not suitable for children under the age of 12 so is not a family product, you would have to buy another mouth wash for the kids. Overall a great product, the advert portrays the product ...

Yes this product is exceptionally great and has its advantages..i mean..you know you dont want to go outside and have that bad funky breath. Sensation:
after the burning feeling on your gums it wont take long to feel the freshness, just rince regularly everyday for about 30 seconds in the morning and at night if your a heavy teeth cleaner and you wont be as prone to have plaques, ginivitis, gum desease or bad breath.
Pros and Cons:

I first came across Listerine when my dentist recommended it to me, so I bought a bottle of the Clean Mint flavour, not being put off by the fact that the bottle shape resembles that of a floor cleaner rather than a personal hygiene product when compared to other more visibly appealing mouthwashes.
When I first came to use it, I poured 20ml into the cap and swished it around my mouth for 30 seconds. I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it ... ...on first use, any stinging sensation should disappear with prolonged use. When you spit it out, your mouth and gums may also sting initially - this is probably the least enjoyable part of the process.
There are immediate visible results, your mouth feels fresher and your teeth and gums look in top condition. The downside afterwards is you will not be able to taste much when you're eating or drinking for an hour or two after using this.
