    I've been on the pill now for about four years, and for three of these I've been taking Loestrin 20 which I've found to be a highly effective method of contraception with no side effects whatseoever. A far cry from the first year using the pill as a contraceptive method! Without wishing to scare any prospective pill-takers, my first pill (Microgynon) gave me every side effect in the book! I experienced weight gain, headaches, nausea (every day at 6pm) and I cried and cried and cried every day for several months until someone mentionned to me that perhaps it was my pill that was at fault and ... more

    Can't believe I am sitting here about to write a review on a contraceptive pill but I will give it my best shot. I havent attempted an op like this before as I, myself dont feel that I can do it........... I just read and rated anothers op there though on a different pill and thought, ok, why not? May as well give it a go............ What is it? Well this is a pill that is taken for 21 days of the month. (Some pills are not like this as some you take for the full 28 days.     Advantages Advantages Knowing when my period will arrive! Stops you from becoming pregnant!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Possibly risks such as Thrombosis, breast cancer and a long list of possible side effects!

    Please note this review is mainly about it's effectiveness of reducing bleeding during periods! Without wishing to bore you all to tears, I will give you some background information on why I'm taking the pill. Back when I first started secondary school at the age of eleven, some of my friends were talking about getting their periods and how they felt all grown up.     I first started taking Loestren 20 a week or so after my 16th birthday. I decided, at the legal age, I should go on the pill incase any "accidents" came up and I needed protection. I suppose, for a 16 year old to think like that, I must have been quite strange and presumptuous, but I didn't care too much and off I trotted to the doctors with my mom.     Loestrin 20.... Each Loestrin 20 tablet contains 1mg of norethisterone and 20micrograms of ethinyloestradiol. No, I don't understand it either. Like all other combined oral contraceptive pills, Loestrin 20 stops you from getting pregnant by thickening the cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to travel to the womb. It also stops the ovaries from releasing an egg, and makes the womb lining so thin that it would be unlikely to accept a fertilised egg.     Disadvantages Disadvantages I wanted my breasts to grow!

    I started taking the Loestrin 20 pill about 18 months ago due to having quite heavy and irregular periods, so the doctor prescribed me these after a course of iron tablets failed to help. I take mine at night before I get into bed because I tend to remember then rather than say the middle fo the day. Also, I am a sicker for getting tummy upsets etc and these rarely happen at night, so if I'm sick it isn't usually til at least 12 hours after taking my pill and therefore I don't need to worry about emergency contraception or carrying on without a break in the packet.     Advantages Advantages Contraceptive, Better Libido than on other pills, regulates periods

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Remembering to take it, regular side effects as with all pills.

    I have been on Microgynon, Cilest and yasmin before trying this brand. I'd had problems with breakthrough bleeding, bad skin, poor libido and mood problems whilst trying the other brands mentioned above. However so far Loestrin 30 has helped with the majority of these. I started taking Loestrin straight after finishing the last ack of my old brand (Yasmin). In the past I wasn't able to take two packs together without break though bleeding. However, with Loestrin, there has been no break through bleeding so far (granted I've only just finished a month's pack - but I thought I'd let you know how ... more

    I was prescribed this pill after complaining to the doctor about weight gain. She was the 3rd doctor I had seen about the pill (as I had moved away from university, then moved towns to live with my boyfriend). She was quite unsympathetic to me when I explained that I had put on about 2 stone in weight since going on the pill, saying it was my age and lifestyle. I can accept that my metabolism may have slowed down, but my lifestyle is probably more active as I'm not working and on my feet all day, compared to my lazy days as a student.     Advantages Advantages Cute pill. No pregnancy (fingers crossed)

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Gazillion side effects. Causes identical symptoms to pregnancy so not for the paranoid type!

    My dad is my GP, so when I asked him to prescribe the pill for me (awkward enough?) he said Loestrin 20 would be the best bet as it's low dosage and therefore less likely to cause the side effects that I've seen in some of my friends - ie. being in a different mood every day of the week, ballooning in size, etc. I'm at the end of my first pack and so far in my first month (I know the first month is the worst, or so I've heard, but anyway) I've had migraines, stomach pain, bloating, palpitations, ravenous hunger, feeling generally unwell, dry skin, water retention, weakness in my arms and legs ... more

    Advantages Advantages No Pregnancy, Regular, Short Periods, No Libido Loss

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Initial side effects, A Few Spots, and a large bust!

    I've tried Cilest, Migrogynon, Loestrin 20, Marvelon and more bcp's in the past. Recently I tried Yamsin, which was excellent, but I lost all libido. (My Dr's trying to find something that doesnt give me migraines & which also reduces painful & heavy periods.) I started Loestrin 30, and stopped after 3 months, as I had these side effects: -palpitations -painful periods -irritability -dry skin & spotty chin -Migraines -Tiredness On Gp's advice, I restarted it, and I'm pleased to say all but the migraines disappeared, and I'm absolutly fine on it!
