Advantages: Well it works for me Disadvantages: Might not work for you!!
...of these I've been taking Loestrin 20 which I've found to be a highly effective method of contraception with no side effects whatseoever.
A far cry from the first year using the pill as a contraceptive method! Without wishing to scare any prospective pill-takers, my first pill (Microgynon) gave me every side effect in the book! I experienced weight gain, headaches, nausea (every day at 6pm) and I cried and cried and cried every day for several months ... ...pointless! Hence, Loestrin 20, a fantastic invention and the answer to all my contraceptive problems! The thing that confuses me about Loestrin 20 is that it contains a low dosage of hormones. I mean, if it is possible to be safe from pregnancy by taking less hormones, why doesn't everyone else do it? Hmm. Anyhow, being as I am evidently allergic to hormones (!) I have found Loestrin to work very well for me. No weight gain, no nausea, no regular ...

Advantages: Quite easy to use Disadvantages: Not good if you're forgetful
...me when I was on Loestrin 20 - this was due to the dosage APPARENTLY and when the doctor moved me to the 30 I have been great. Other side effects include headaches - these range from mildly bearable to a full on Migraine. Now again, I have found with this pill this has not happened to me - it did with Marvelon though! :-(
Also some people have been known to have suffered blood clots with the pill. To be honest I dont really know much about this ... ...my family have these sort of health problems. So, sorry, I cannot comment. Though if you have any major concerns you can speak to your GP or maybe even go to the NHS website where they answer all sorts of questions, so no doubt you will be informed fully here. Advice?
Well it is strongly advised that you speak to your GP or even a family planning doctor/nurse before starting the pill. This could be as I say above, due to genetic conditions or even ...

What is in the pack?
Contained in the box are 3 packs of pills each containing 21 tiny green tablets. The pack has got the days of the week written on the top of the foil in casing the tablet, so you can keep track if you've taken one for that day, or not.

Advantages: No weight gain!! Disadvantages: Moods, little bit of "spotting"
I first started taking Loestren 20 a week or so after my 16th birthday. I decided, at the legal age, I should go on the pill incase any "accidents" came up and I needed protection. I suppose, for a 16 year old to think like that, I must have been quite strange and presumptuous, but I didn't care too much and off I trotted to the doctors with my mom. He said he would prescribe me the best one for my age-range, and so I was given Loestren 20. I was ... ...in a sexual relationship. I, however, was in a relationship so I was happy on taking precautions. The packet
+++++++
It's a small silver packet, with 21 tablets in each sachet. In one box, you are given three sachets, which obviously last for three months, because of you're 7 day break. I like the fact that it tells you what day to take them on, because otherwise, I would be totally lost. The tablets are tiny and a baby blue colour. When to take ...

Loestrin 20....
Each Loestrin 20 tablet contains 1mg of norethisterone and 20micrograms of ethinyloestradiol. No, I don't understand it either.
Like all other combined oral contraceptive pills, Loestrin 20 stops you from getting pregnant by thickening the cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to travel to the womb. It also stops the ovaries from releasing an egg, and makes the womb lining so thin that it would be unlikely to accept a fertilised ... ...'period'.
I was prescribed Loestrin 20 after having a few problems with Mercilon (see other review). I was gutted as I loved Mercilon, but the side effects were too irritating. The first thing I noticed about this pill was the size of the packet!! With Mercilon and Microgynon (ugh), the pill packets were so tiny i could put them in my wallet with no bother. This pill strip was HUGE!
So, I started taking Loestrin, and my first packet was great, ...

Advantages: No weight gain, no nausea and no mental change Disadvantages: I wanted my breasts to grow!
I started taking the Loestrin 20 pill about 18 months ago due to having quite heavy and irregular periods, so the doctor prescribed me these after a course of iron tablets failed to help. I take mine at night before I get into bed because I tend to remember then rather than say the middle fo the day. ...mentioned above. However so far Loestrin 30 has helped with the majority of these. I started taking Loestrin straight after finishing the last ack of my old brand (Yasmin). In the past I wasn't able to take two packs together without break though bleeding. However, with Loestrin, there has been no break through bleeding so far (granted I've only just finished a month's pack - but I thought I'd let you know how fab I'm feeling switching to Loestrin ... ...of these whilst switching to Loestrin 30. That for me has never happened before so therefore it's worth telling you all about. My moods haven't changed and I feel my normal happy self. And the best bit of all is my libido has some back! I noticed I had gradually lost it while taking Yasmin for about 1.5 years. However it is already back to normal and I feel much more positive for it.

Advantages: No weight gain (but none lost either) Disadvantages: Still didn't help my missing libido
...I mentioned but prescribed me Loestrin as it has a lower dose of Oestrogen than other pills.
I tried it for 6 months, and although I didn't gain any more weight, I didn't lose any either. I have gone from a small size 12 to a large 14 over the 2 years I had been with my partner - and I hate it!
My libido did not improve, and this caused some concern for my partner and I. He gets really stressed because I have no interest in sex. He thought it was ... ...not he gets quite frustrated and thinks I'm not making an effort. It's upsetting me as I don't feel normal any more.
As with my reviews for other pills - different pills suit different people, and you have to keep trying to find the one that suits you. After trying 5 I still haven't found one that suits me, and I'm getting quite disheartened. I stopped taking the pill in November to see if there was any improvement, and there hasn't been. Advantages: No Pregnancy, Regular, Short Periods, No Libido Loss Disadvantages: Initial side effects, A Few Spots, and a large bust!
I've tried Cilest, Migrogynon, Loestrin 20, Marvelon and more bcp's in the past. Recently I tried Yamsin, which was excellent, but I lost all libido.
(My Dr's trying to find something that doesnt give me migraines & which also reduces painful & heavy periods.)
I started Loestrin 30, and stopped after 3 months, as I had these side effects:
-palpitations
-painful periods -irritability -dry skin & spotty chin
-Migraines
-Tiredness
On Gp's advice, ... ...the migraines disappeared, and I'm absolutly fine on it! The Dr suggested I tri-cycle so I dont have to expereice monthly migraines, and its been great!
This bcp has plus points.
-It increases the bust (not good for me!).
-Bleeds are about 4-5 days , which I think is superb (considering without the pill, mine might be 8 days!).
-I've not become pregnant!
-My libido is much improved!
You take 1 of the green pills roughly the same time each day ...

...these the doctor prescribed me Loestrin 20. He explained that it contained less Oestrogen than the other brands (thats the 20 in its name). Oestrogen is the hormone which gives you PMT and side effects (I think!)
Now I rarely get PMT, only a small amount before my period, and I don't get weight gain or anything. My skin used to be oily but it isn't at all now, and the pre-menstrual spots on my chin I used to get are non-existant.
My only piece of advice is do not try to miss your period by missing the week off and taking your next pill straight away. I did this over Christmas because I didn't fancy having a period and was going away so knew it would be a hassle. It turned into a bigger hassle because I got mad, raging PMT ...

Advantages: no periods, low hormone content, no PMT!! Disadvantages: no periods!
This is the fifth brand of combined contraceptive pill that I have been on ( I will review the others when I get around to it!) and it seems to be the best.
As with most contraceptive pills, it comes in packs of 21 pills, all labelled with the day of the week making it easier to remember to take.
My doctor put me on this pill as I seemed to be having problems tolerating the 'high' hormone levels in other brands of contraceptive pill, so he said ... ...that if this didn't work, I might want to think about a different method of contraception, as this pill contains the lowest amount of hormone available. Apparantly the doctors don't prescribe this pill first as if you can't cope with this level of hormones then there is nowhere to go.
This pill has kept my moods swings under control and I very very rarely experience sore, swollen breasts, which was the main problem that I had on all the other brands.

Quick review of Loestrin Contraceptive Pill
Now on my second month of Loestrin, and the same thing has happened to me twice; I've started my period whilst still taking the pill. I wondered if it was something to do with the time at which I started the course, but my doctor actually told me to the exact date of which to take it. Being that I actually started the Pill to eradicate my spontaneous periods, it's a bit worrying. My libido has also lessened a lot, which is very sad :( ...

Quick review of Loestrin Contraceptive Pill
I took Loestrin 20 for about a year and I have recently changed to a new pill. Overall my experience was a good one. The main advantage was that my breasts increased A LOT in size (from barely an A to a very full B) which gave me bounds of confidence HOWEVER the huge disadvantage was that they shrunk back to their original size after about 9 months. It was bizarre and I was very depressed and my confidence plummeted.
I did not experience any other negative effects. Just be aware that breast growth could be temporary like mine. ...
