Advantages Advantages Excellent academic reputation, prestige, social life, diversity

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expense, hard work

I have been at the LSE for nearly 3 weeks now and I have enjoyed every minute of it so I thought I should dispell some popular myths about anti-social students, unaffordable living costs ect ect. This is a really enjoyable place to study and like any other university, the social life is as good as you make it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS Unlike many other universities, the LSE does not bombard prospective students with leaflets and prospectuses or try to bribe people to come here in fact it is ... more

Advantages Advantages So prestigious with excellent facilities, social life

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expense

I was unfortunately unsucessful in my application to do a Masters here. While i had good grades, i was not surprised due to the competition at this prestigious uni. My advice if u want to go here is to apply real early as they make decisions as applications come in. It is rated 4th or 5th in the 'The Times' uni league tables guide. It is internationally renowned with LOADS of famous staff & THE place to be for social sciences . So many core texts are actually written by the staff here. The composition of the student body is truly international. This is also reflected in a Facilities Facilities ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very well known

Disadvantages Disadvantages Left on your own

This is a very prestigious university, no doubt! It has always been in the top five of the university league. For social sciences this is the No.1 university throughout Europe! However, as a third year student, I really do not think it's the place to be. Unless you're always the No. 1 student, you get As without looking at a book, and can readily acceptable staying three years in a place to be self-taught, it's not the place for you. From day one, you are left to yourself. No matter whether it's your lecturer, your tutor, or your classmates, nobody cares about whether you study or not, or ... more

Advantages Advantages A respectable degree, world renowned scholars

Disadvantages Disadvantages teaching, resources, social life

Scary is one of the words i would have used to describe entering University. After all, the transition from High School or College to Universtiy is large, to say the least. So armed with a handful of A's, nerves, excitement and the knowledge that the first year of University is apparently the best of your life, I stumbled into the world famous LSE. I was struck instantly by the vast number of Foreign students, though the prospectus had always said that 50% of students are form overseas, i didn't fully anticipate what this meant. The other thing i was dazzled by were tha bright lights, people ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent reputation,

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard to get into, old, expensive

If you havent heard of the LSE, you are either ignorant or not destined for a good career... the LSE is a world famous center for political sciences and okay, it may not be the biggest university or the livliest one, it makes up for it with it's presteige. Alumni include Cherie Blair and John F Kennedy, and lets face it, where else are U gonna find staff who have served on the Bank of England monetary comittee and advisors to public policy who write world renowned books? It may not be the newest university in the world, but what do you expect from a British university? if you actually attended ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Name, Good Postgraduate Education.

Disadvantages Disadvantages generally poor treatment of Undergraduates

The LSE is probably one of the best Universities available in the United Kingdom. But there is a catch, even though it has a great name, it doesn't always deliver the expected quality for its Undergraduate students. Lectures are frequently done by Post-graduate students and assistants, as the Professors are too busy with personal research and/or Postgraduate teaching. If you want the LSE name on your CV, I (and several Professors/counsellors) recommend that you choose a different university for undergraduate, and then go to LSE as a post graduate, which is a truly wonderful experience. If ... more

Advantages Advantages London location, amazing professors, smart and worldy students

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the right program if you are not interested in the social sciences

I attended the London School of Economics (LSE) for the summer session. The summer session runs in two three week modules, where there's a plethora of courses to choose from, ranging from management classes (think marketing, negotiations, organizational structures), to economic history courses, to what seemed to be very popular, the accounting and finance courses. The finance class I enrolled in was very challenging, the material was cutting edge, and the students in the class were from not only Britain, but the European Union, Canada, and several countries in Asia. There were working ... more

    Advantages Advantages CENTRAL LONDON

LSE!!! PEOPLE HAVE VERY DIFFERENT VIEWS OF IT. IS IT AS GOOD AS OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE? IS IT RESPECTED AS WELL AS IT SHOULD BE? IS THE UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING GOOD ENOUGH? ALL OF THESE ARE FAIR ENOUGH QUESTIONS BUT IF YOU ARE A STUDENT READING THIS IT SHOULD NOT BOTHER YOU! LSE IS A UNIVERSITY. ONE OF THE BEST ADMITTEDLY BUT STILL ALL IN ALL, A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY THE REAL 'ONCE IN A LIFETIME' EXPERIENCE THAT IS BEING A STUDENT. THE LIFESTYLE AT LSE IS EXCELLENT. THE PEOPLE ARE EXCELLENT. EVEN THE WATERED DOWN BEER TAKES NICE. IF YOU ARE GOING TO LSE, YOU HAVE DONE WELL BUT FORGOT ABOUT ... more
