My Experiences so far at LSE

AdvantagesExcellent academic reputation, prestige, social life, diversity

Disadvantagesexpense, hard work

"...and is very cheap for London but can get rather crowded. There are three floors in the venue each playing different styles of music, the drinks are cheap and if you dont feel like dancing you can just sit down upstairs and smoke shisha. Most of the halls also have their own bars and again these sell very cheap drinks but unfortunately close really early. Despite the lack of organised events, however, there are always places to go at night such as ..." Read review

Cant keep me out

AdvantagesSo prestigious with excellent facilities, social life

DisadvantagesExpense

"...double the amount of comaparable London institutions. Though it is also claimed that they are short of funds. The Library makes me envious as they have many copies of core texts & even if you can't have it for long, at least you can photocopy them. Only thing that gets me is why does the security guard sometimes flip through the pages of your books you are about to leave - what is he hoping to find? A book within a book? One touch which really ..." Read review

Do the hard work and you get there

AdvantagesVery well known

DisadvantagesLeft on your own

"This is a very prestigious university, no doubt! It has always been in the top five of the university league. For social sciences this is the No.1 university throughout Europe! However, as a third year student, I really do not think it's the place to be. Unless you're always the No. 1 student, you get As without looking at a book, and can readily acceptable staying three years in a place to be self-taught, it's not the place for you. From day one, ..." Read review

only maybe

AdvantagesA respectable degree, world renowned scholars

Disadvantagesteaching, resources, social life

"...here than other Universtiy of London universities. Unfotrunately, after the initial phase, the seams started to show. Short of funds, the LSE employs its Foreign postgraduates to teach its undergraduates, many of which have had no more than a few years experience in this country. Thus, teaching suffers, my friends and I, found it increasingly difficult to understand and was always a struggle. Far from the best year of my life. We slowly came to ..." Read review

The LSE a more open view

AdvantagesExcellent reputation,

DisadvantagesHard to get into, old, expensive

"If you havent heard of the LSE, you are either ignorant or not destined for a good career... the LSE is a world famous center for political sciences and okay, it may not be the biggest university or the livliest one, it makes up for it with it's presteige. Alumni include Cherie Blair and John F Kennedy, and lets face it, where else are U gonna find staff who have served on the Bank of England monetary comittee and advisors to public policy who write ..." Postgraduate yes - Undergraduate NO

AdvantagesGood Name, Good Postgraduate Education.

Disadvantagesgenerally poor treatment of Undergraduates

"The LSE is probably one of the best Universities available in the United Kingdom. But there is a catch, even though it has a great name, it doesn't always deliver the expected quality for its Undergraduate students. Lectures are frequently done by Post-graduate students and assistants, as the Professors are too busy with personal research and/or Postgraduate teaching. If you want the LSE name on your CV, I (and several Professors/counsellors) recommend ..." Read review

The summer program moves fast, you meets brilliant people

AdvantagesLondon location, amazing professors, smart and worldy students

DisadvantagesNot the right program if you are not interested in the social sciences

"I attended the London School of Economics (LSE) for the summer session. The summer session runs in two three week modules, where there's a plethora of courses to choose from, ranging from management classes (think marketing, negotiations, organizational structures), to economic history courses, to what seemed to be very popular, the accounting and finance courses. The finance class I enrolled in was very challenging, the material was cutting edge, ..." Read review

THE REAL STORY

AdvantagesCENTRAL LONDON

DisadvantagesCENTRAL LONDON

"LSE!!! PEOPLE HAVE VERY DIFFERENT VIEWS OF IT. IS IT AS GOOD AS OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE? IS IT RESPECTED AS WELL AS IT SHOULD BE? IS THE UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING GOOD ENOUGH? ALL OF THESE ARE FAIR ENOUGH QUESTIONS BUT IF YOU ARE A STUDENT READING THIS IT SHOULD NOT BOTHER YOU! LSE IS A UNIVERSITY. ONE OF THE BEST ADMITTEDLY BUT STILL ALL IN ALL, A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY THE REAL 'ONCE IN A LIFETIME' EXPERIENCE THAT IS BEING A STUDENT. THE LIFESTYLE ..." Read review
