+ Lonely Planet - Australia + The lonely planet Australia book is a must of you are travelling around Australia. It gives you lots of very useful information about the country, things to do and see, currently and lots more. As I was planning my trip and didn't have a clue on what there was to do and see in this large country so I decided to get this book and I was very pleased with it. + CONTENTS + This book has everything imaginable that you could need to try and plan an itinerary by yourself. At the front there is a map of Australia which gives you an idea where all the towns are, where ... more

Advantages Advantages Bulgiing with Useful Reviews, Maps, Prices, Accomodation, Attractions...

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bulky and Heavy and Sometimes A Little Generous in its Reviews

Having decided to explore the Australia with my partner for my gap year, I was given this book as a gift from my partner's father to help aid us in our decisions about where and when to go and explore the great Aussie outback.. Being cocky and looking at the size of the thing (its quiet bulky and heavy and was sometimes a nuisance when carrying in my rucksack - note MY rucksack....boyfriend not strong enough or willing to carry it!), i put it aside and decided i could cope without using it for my pre planning and planning during my trip. After struggling looking at a wide range of websites and ... more

Advantages Advantages Informative, interesting, easy to find things

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only thing I can think of is its size!

I borrowed the Lonely Planet Guide to Australia from a friend before embarking on my trip. I could not put it down, reading about all the places I was going to visit, and a lot were added to my list of places I wanted to visit from reading this book. It starts off with useful facts for the visitor which includes everything from when to go, suggested itineraries on your time frame and available budget, the 40 most recommended things to do/see, the culture and climate of the country to what you should do about getting a visa, airlines you should book with, how to open a bank account in Australia ... more

Advantages Advantages Crammed with useful information. Contains colour maps, Info. on accomodation, activities, getting around etc.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Adds weight to your backpack.

I'm not sure when the other reviews of this book were written but this review is of the November 2005 Edition. If you are considering a trip to Oz this guide will prove invaluable in helping you to get the best out of your experience. Those of you who are familiar with Lonely Planet publications will know that they produce the best travel guide books available. All the research for the book is done by independent travellers who basically 'tell it like it is'. This edition contains a 16 page colour road map section which I found really useful for getting your bearings. If you are travelling to ... more

Advantages Advantages Extremely informative and comprehensive

Disadvantages Disadvantages too much info to take in. Dull lay out

I bought this paperback book online of play.com. I believe I paid around £11 including delivery. Expect to pay more in wh smith etc. RRP on this is £16.99. I was thinking generally about a trip to Australia and where to go etc if i did make it there. I found this book very useful. The book is broken into sections by territories. It then breaks this down into various towns and cities and breaks these down into sections of accomodation, eating, what to see and do and tourist information. it gives handy guide prices to each activitiy, restaurant etc but make sure to buy an up to date version so ... more

Advantages Advantages packed full of helful need to know information

Disadvantages Disadvantages abit bulky to carry around but it does ensure lots of detail!

Im off to Australia next march for a month for my gap year and abit nervous, so asked my brother for a few tips as he went a couple of years ago. He handed me this lonely planet guide and said it saved his life more than once on his trip, and as i looked at it with torn pages, mud splattered over it and crinkled pages where it got wet sitting under his towel in his backpack, i knew it had been well used and obviously helpful. I do admit the first thing i thought when i flicked through was woah there is alot of information to take in here, but i took it slow and just browsed through it. I soon ... more
