The first I went to San Francisco it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I've travelled well, but the sight of Alcatraz whilst walking down the pier is fantastic. I took a boat trip which went round Alcatraz and it took you to the Golden Gate Bridge. This was interesting but not as much so as seeing the Alcatraz prison itself. It is really quite eerie.
There are some fab restaurants, like Green's. Though you need to book. Ask your concierge.

Advantages: beautiful scenery, great transport and lovely people Disadvantages: taxi drivers are crazy
I borrowed this book off a friend and cant remember much off apart from it telling me to go to alcatraz! consequently this review really has nothing to do with the book...! I hope however that it will inspire you to visit the city and enjoy it as much as I did.
I am a Scottish student and spent my summer in Virginia working in a summer camp for 11 weeks. Afterwards I went travelling with my girl and San Francisco turned out to be the most beautiful ... ...spent the first part of out travels in Washington DC and Orlando we got a non-stop flight from Orlando to San Francisco for total price of $120 with United Airlines - for 2000 miles this was amazing!
We stayed in a beautiful hotel called Edward II on Lombard Street, just 15 minutes walk from the famous twisting red brick part that people see on TV all the time. We had views of the Golden Gate Bridge which was very romantic.
