Advantages Advantages Emotional in places, well written for the young adult market

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some sexual content, characters a bit annoying in places.

Looking for Alaska was a book recommended to me by a younger friend of mine, she had recently read it and had been raving about it and although young adult fiction is not normally my genre of choice given that I am a little outside their usual age bracket I decided to give it a go.- - PLOT - - When Miles Halter joins Culver Creek he never really believes his life is going to be any different than it was at home in Florida, he will probably just end up as the same geek he was at high school there with not a lot of friends and working hard to keep up his grade point average to get into a good ... more

Advantages Advantages Funny, Touching, Sad, Happy.. Very Emotional & Interesting Story, Relatable Characters

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I'll admit, when I first read the synopsis on the back of the book I wasn't too impressed. It seemed like yet another predictable, teenage fairy tail love story kind of book, but I read and finished the book non the less purely out of curiosity due to a friend telling me how good it was - I wanted to see for my self what all the fuss was about! The main character in the story is a 16 year old boy named Miles Halter, an individual who feels somewhat isolated and dreams of making new friends. Upon arriving at Culver Creek boarding school, he befriends Chip (aka The The Colonel), and through Chip ... more

Advantages Advantages Moving story line, detailed characters, suspense

Disadvantages Disadvantages I wanted to read it forever

Looking for Alaska is the perfect story for anyone of any age. The book taught me so much about myself and a sense of what growing up really does feel like. “You can love someone so much...But you can never love people as much as you can miss them.” The book taught me about love, about life, about death. I never thought one book could be full of so much information that could actually move me. I have recomended this book to many people and have never heard a bad review. The worst part of the book is that it ends. Not the ending, but the fact that the last page came so soon. I have re-read ... more

    Advantages Advantages Interesting, witty

Disadvantages Disadvantages It lacks some details of a major part in the novel which would be nice to have been told

Personally I loved this book. It was interesting, unique and original. Although some may disagree with me I genuinely think this is one of the best books I've read. John Green writes in a thought-provoking way yet in a way that is easy to read. The characters are easily related to which makes the book that much more poignant and heart-warming. I'd heard a lot of good things about the book from websites and i'd seen the good reviews it had previously got. I wanted to add to these reviews because it really was worth the money and time it took to read. For me it was hard to put down, i read it ... more

Advantages Advantages Funny, intellectual and emotional.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not for children/young teenagers as it is quite sad and has mature topics in.

I love this book. It is perfect for teenagers around 14-18. It is for older teenagers as it has a lot of quite mature topics which can be quite hard to understand. It is very sad and it's beautifully written with great emotive techniques. The book was very interesting, I couldn't put it down. The characters were intriguing and very easy to relate to. It was funny, intellectual, emotional and simply everything you could want in a book. The main character, Alaska, is very fun and she makes the book special as you can either relate to her or want to be like her. In my opinion, her fun, fearless ... more
