...try out a couple of MAC products which I had heard were very good - though very expensive!
So I travelled into London (Selfridges, actually), as MAC cosmetics are not available in a huge number of places and found my way to the MAC counter. Obviously a very popular brand, as all the sales assistants were extremely busy applying make-up to customers, so I hovered around the counters for a few minutes hoping someone would notice me, in the end I got ... ...product I went for is MAC Studiofix foundation - which looks like your average powder compact, but is in fact a complete foundation and powder all in one (I also bought the corresponding concealer). One of the great things about MAC is that they have a HUGE range of shades, so you are bound to find something that suits your skin colour.
It comes in a neat little grey cardboard box, and the compact itself contains a mirror and a little compartment ...

...you guessed it she uses MAC studiofix in NW20). It is simply a question of what works best and has the nicest tone/texture, aswell as individual preference. However, with foundation and bases in general, I think I have found the exception to my philosophy. MAC is an American brand developed for professional use by make-up artists. It has fairly minimal, yet sleek, black packaging, with an emphasis on quality and range of shades available. This includes Asian and black skintones. It works on the principle that skin either has golden or pinkish undertones and produces shades accordingle. ...recommend going on eBay for MAC however, as recently there have been a lot of fakes popping up on there. I was lucky, this is the genuine stuff! MAC has a shade for every skintone too, I do know some darker ladies who have problems finding foundations, so ladies with dark skin will be happy to know that MAC do have a shade for you! If you go to a MAC counter an artist there will match a foundation to your skin so you don't have to worry about your face being a different colour to your neck, this stuff blends really well and builds brilliantly too.

I've been using this base for a long time now - and 'm surprised that it hasn't got any rave reviews on this site - so here's mine! Basically this is a product for younger, normal to oily skin as it does tend to be a bit drying. For full coverage you apply it with a sponge (supplied in the compact - and a most excellent sponge it is too); while for a much lighter, sheerer, effect it can be dusted on with a brush. I initially bought this just because it was the only foundation I could find anywhere at any price that was pale enough for my skin (the N1 is very very pale).
Since then I've discovered others, but this remains a real firm favourite.
It's a 'solid' foundation in a compact which you can apply with the sponge in the bottom of the compact (I like the way this keeps the sponge off the product - more hygienic) or with a big powder brush.
I also like ... ...light coverage, a normal coverage or even build it up without it looking clogged to use as a concealer (you can also wet it slightly for even more coverage, but don't dampen the whole compact).
It will cling to any flaky skin though, so it's not one for people with very dry skin, and normal/dry may need to use a good moisturiser underneath ...

...you can mess up on. MAC are a fantastic company with a wonderful range of products. Their counters in department stores look classy and their representatives are flawless. Appearance: The compact is black and has space underneath the powder for a puff or sponge. The powder feels soft to the touch. There is a small circular mirror which is perfect for application on the move. Use of product: I first started off using a large powder brush for application ... ...really well and teamed with MAC concealer gives the impression of a professional application. It stays put for a good 6 hours on a regular day and rarely needs reapplying. While MAC have impressive range of colours.. they do I think need to improve on their texture. The packaing in simple matte black plastic with the MAC logo imprinted on top. once you open the compact you have the coloured powder on top and underneath the powder you can open up to find another space for a powder puff... In my experience the powder puff adds too much powder to the face and its best applied with a large powder brush instead to give ... ...pressed powder it is in fact a full foundation you can get away with applying this staright after concealor and it stays put for about 4 hours. Its great for oilier skins and summer time as the powder formula absorbs all that oil.. on the downside it does leave a strange colour behind.. for myself it gave an ashen almost chalk appearance - even after i switched from the pad to the brush for lighter coverage.. used on top of liquid foundation it sets ...

...don't really seem to sell mac anywhere else apart from department stores! I was impressed by all the different colours, there must have been at least 30 shades, ranging from the palest pale to quite dark. The girl found my colour straight away, and I paid over my 19 quid, wondering if i'd made the right decision by buying it!
To be honest, i wasn't totally impressed. Having combination skin, dry and flaky in some areas and oily in others, It didn't ... ...layers of epidermis off my skin. I don't really find it thick enough but that's all down to personal taste really i suppose. I wear liquid foundation underneath for extra coverge.
I don't know whether its because its the wrong colour for me, but i find it makes my skin look very ashen, like there's no life in it. Basically, I think I look like a corpse! Ok it's not THAT bad, but my skin does look a bit lifeless.

...an American friend recently recommended mac products to me, so I went along to Harvey Nics and asked to test some foundation. The woman recommended Studio Fix, which is a foundation and powder in one. There were loads of shades to choose from, ranging from very dark to very pale, and the woman chose me N4, which is neither too pink or too golden, which is what their colours are based on. It matched perfectly so I was happy to part with £19.
I've ... ...which is stored in the container with the powder. Its easy to apply, with just a quick sweep of powder needed to even out skin tone, hid minor blemishes and keep me matte all day.
I really recommend this product for anyone with really pale skin as the range of colours is amazing and its so easy to apply. Personally, I dont mind paying the £19 for a product thats a good colour for me. ...

This product is great, MAC colors are great, but I do find that studio fix clogs my pores with continuous use. I really wish it didn't, because it is perfect aside from that.
It can look quite chalky and very matted if you use the sponge. The best way of getting this foundation to look natural is by using a foundation brush. With this foundation I also highly suggest using a moisturizer first or MAC's prep+prime face. I have slightly drier skin ...

...skin tone until I discovered MAC studiofix. This is probably the best foundation by MAC. It is easily and quickly applied with the sponge that accompanies this powder foundation. The coverage is excellent, and you can build it up as much as you like without looking chalky. The thing I love about studiofix is the range of colours available, and all of them yellow based. I use NC30 and that perfectly matches my asian colouring. There is no need for ... ...eye area too for a natural even look. The only minor drawback is that it does not remain matte throughout the day on an oilier skin type. I have an oily t-zone and at the end of the day the foundation slides off my nose and looks like a mask. But for those with a normal skin type, this product will not disappoint! ...
