4 Stars S.M.A.R.T = Slow Moving And Really Tiny Review with images 01/05/2004
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Eye catching, neat and cheap to run

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too small and not very practical

Well, as you fellow people at Ciao may know by now, I regularly drive a number of vehicles, some my own and some hired. When the SMART car was first introduced a few years ago I drove one. Whilst in Spain a few years ago I needed to hire a car, so I visited the nearest car hire centre and told them I needed an automatic car. They said they had a Ford Escort Atlanta available, so I fumbled for some cash. The girl then apologised and said that it was actually not available as it had just been booked. "Ok" I said, "what else do you have ?" The girl replied by saying that there was a SMART car ... more

    3 Stars Smart indeed 05/01/2002
    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages Small, sober, semi-automatic transmission, strongly built

Disadvantages Disadvantages poor engine, hard suspension, ridiculous boot, expensive

Having done quite some kilometers with most of the Smarts, I think I can tell you something about the product range and which model is the most interesting. As I can’t write an op about “the Smart in general” I have chosen to write about the model I haven driven most: the CDI. SMALL ON THE OUTSIDE… Everyone by now knows what a smart looks like: very short, high, and perhaps a little ugly. The fact that it’s so short has some major advantages: First of all, and most obvious, parking your car in a big city is no longer a hopeless seek for a free space. You can get the Smart almost in every free ... more

Advantages Advantages Incredible economy, no Road tax, no congestion charge, tiny insurance

Disadvantages Disadvantages Vulnerable, and you need to learn how to use the gearbox to best advantage

I'm new to Ciao! so am enjoying reading reviews on stuff I know about. Didn't even realise there would be an opportunity to review our beloved Smart! It has done the job for us. A bit of background on our decision: Until 2001 we always had 2 cars in the family - with 5 kids, aged at that time between 25 and 9, we needed 'volume' carriers. The good news is they grow up and leave home. Yeay. In 2000, the Passat diesel estate was getting weary - 400 000 kms is a long and healthy stint and it was starting to need more and more bits. We decided to downsize, with just 2 kids left and one about to go ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, parking everywhere, Less gasoline consumption, You know you have something special, extraordinary, High security standard

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather expensive accessories, winter problems

Well, what to say about this funny, little, ridiculous, wonderful car? After all, i love it. Its still something special to drive one, after all this years. Not an usual one, too may of them are already on the street, especially in Germany, where I live, but one of the good things about a smart is that you get him and all the accessories in all colors and styles yo ucan imagine. My smart is black with yellow interior, has aluminium rims and a holder for bikes behind, and this means the bike is higher than the car, be sure people will look! So if you are pathlogical shy or a criminal and have ... more
