Advantages Advantages Fuel Consumption low, insurance and road tax low.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of privacy

I bought this car Christmas 2007 for £6000, I could have bought any other small car such as a Clio or Punto but was persuaded by the sales man of the advantages. I felt that the benefits I had heard about outweighed any feelings I had towards the design which I considered to be clumsy, perhaps even a bit weird and I didn't relish the idea of being seen in this. The colour especially put me off being Hello Yellow. There are many different designs and colours available for both the FORTWO modles, the FORFOUR and the Roadster's. I have seen many more for the FORTWO's especially patterned ones ... more

Advantages Advantages Fuel efficient, easy to park, good driving position, saved my husband's life

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not much boot space (but enough for a dog!)

We have recently been (for a short time) the proud owners of a Smart Pulse. In the 10 weeks we had the car I drove over 3000 miles in it in total comfort. My normal car is a large family saloon, but I found the Smart a great car to drive and am very sad we no longer have it - more on that later. Our model had heated leather seats (mmmmm) and a semi automatic gear box which made driving a very relaxed experience. There is a surprising amount of space in the car with plenty of leg room for the driver (a little less for the passenger). The driving position is elevated a little like a people ... more

Advantages Advantages The best thing since sliced bread for City driving!

Disadvantages Disadvantages The basic sound system is terrible.

I purchased my Smart in April this year and haven't walked anywhere since - my life has changed! This is an X registered (Nov 2000) Blue/Black 0599cc Petrol Pulse with glass roof. It's a left hand drive with automatic/triptronic gears. Additions to this car when ordered by the previous owner were: Side airbags, air conditioning and velour floor mats. I added the basic sound upgrade and the life saving cup holder. It doesn't have an alarm, but comes with the bog standard immobiliser. Here is why you may never walk again after purchasing a Smart like mine: -Running costs are great I'd give it a ... more

I am writing this article as a Smart owner, & I hope to dispel some of the stupid 'facts' floating about on these cars. Firstly, THEY ARE SAFE, they passed some of the most rigorous Safety tests in the world. I personally owe my life to one, I'll tell you what happenned. I was driving on an A class road at about 50mph. I passed a very large vehicle, carrying new cars going in the other direction. Sitting impatiently behind it was a motorcyclist who decided to over take. I do not remember much about the impact other than thinking my air bags hadn't worked because they had deflated seconds after ... more

Advantages Advantages Formula 1 style, two seat version of the old Italian Job!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Choppy ride on poor roads with low profile tyres. (Pulse & Brabbus)

Road Test A peach for a pair! MCC Smart ForTwo (City Coupé) Mark 6 (2005) Pulse From £8025 inc VAT new. After 30 years of driving innovative and individual cars, mostly Citroëns, my 1992 Citroën XM TD Auto was getting tired. I do not fancy any of the current crop but have long been intrigued by the little Smart Car. I asked myself, what do I need from a car? Two seats for my wife and me and a tow bar for a small trailer for the few times when I need to carry something bulky. So it was off to Glasgow for a test drive. I had some basic questions. Would my 6’4” frame fit inside one? Would I enjoy ... more

    Advantages Advantages Small, well-specified

    Disadvantages Disadvantages See text

I've seen these buzzing around the city and they look fun, so I decided on a test drive - or two. First of all, I don't have a problem with the design - in fact a car like this needs to stand out and not just try to be a small version of the 'big boys'. There's plenty of room for the 2 passengers too - more than in the front of a Mondeo, so no problem there. Oh, and it's well put together. It may not carry the 3-pointed star, but it's a baby Merc. Secondly, I don't have a problem with the engine size, the original mini was 850 cc and the Hillman Imp 875 cc, so a turbo-charged 600cc in a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Small and nippy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not good for long journeys

What an excellent invention the Smart really is. Up until now there has not really been too much choice when it comes to alternative means of transport. You either had a petrol guzzler or a scooter. But now we have a third choice in the Smart. The Smart is certainly not what we expect in a car, and should probably not be viewed upon as a car in the traditional sense. It should probably be seen more as a scooter with a roof. If you drive a lot of miles or plan to go on long trips then stay away from these guys. But on the other hand, if you only take your car to work, to the shops etc. then ... more

Advantages Advantages ideal town car if you have one friend

Disadvantages Disadvantages small, doesn`t feel safe

dinky car.. but totally awesome... only had it a week,( i have acquired it while a friend is on holiday) but absolutely love it! costs only £18 to fill up and it does a good 400+ miles to the tank built quality is awesome; doors and boot shut with a nice clunk and sound solid. just getting to the end of the breaking in zone (between 400-900 miles) and can start to floor it? it doesn?t accelerate as fast as a 2 litre engine but does very nicely up to its top speed of 84mph (limited). cabin area is huge, bigger than most hatchback cars i?ve had before, with the engine in the back, which ... more

Advantages Advantages Very Economical, Great Fun to Drive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Servicing by Mercedes, parts expensive

These Little two seater Smart Car are great fun to dive, and always turns peoples heads leaving them with a massive smile on their faces. These cars have been with us in the UK for a fair few years now, you can get one as old a an'S' registration, but only in the last 3 years have you been able to get them in right hand drive. I bought my wife one of these two years ago, an 'x' reg 2000 Passion model. She absolutely loves it !!!! It was purchased wearing 'Jack Black' body panels with a Silver Tridion safety cell. These body panels are made from a virtually dent and rust free recyclable plastic ... more
