Small But Perfectly Formed

Advantages: new kitchen; Relatively cheap; Good quality; Excellent planning service
Disadvantages: Flooring and tiling only available on an ad hoc basis

...9ft by 7ft space. MFI were one of a number of places we looked. They stock a good variety of Hygena and Schreiber kitchens in many different styles and the price range seemed just right so we arranged a planning meeting. The difference between MFI and most other kitchen places was that MFI require you to take your own measurements to the planning stage so there is no need for a kitchen designer to come to your house. This might seem daunting to ...
...saw two styles in the MFI showroom that had really taken our eye and we met with Lisa who gave us brochures with all the current prices in and all the appliance packages that could be included. We had decided to go for the built in look and wanted to include a fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher which were all extra costs on top but affordable with the (never-ending) MFI sale. At this stage she advised us to spend some time going through ...

The MFI Kitchen Experience - Part II

Advantages: Value for money, good choice of designs
Disadvantages: Set aside a few months if fitting a kitchen yourself!

...(Hudson design) purchased from the MFI showroom in Swindon. For details of reasons for choosing this kitchen, my experience of buying from the Swindon showroom and costs, please refer to my previous review, The MFI Kitchen Experience. The price quoted at the end of this review included a sink, tap and glass cooker extractor hood, as well as the cupboard units. This is by necessity a lengthy review and I apologise for this, but hope that it will ...
...we received a letter from MFI outlining the delivery details as follows:  We should call their delivery information line two days before the delivery date to find out if the delivery would be morning or afternoon.  They advised us to clear a space in our home, as 'the furniture would probably take up more space than you think'. The space would need to be dry and damp free.  The letter asked us to allow time on the day of ...

MOSTLY FLAMIN' IMPOSSIBLE

Advantages: none really
Disadvantages: bad customer service, bits missing, lack of interest if them not fitting

...We went to our local MFI in Barnstaple on 27 December to order a kitchen. We wanted to take advantage of the sale which ended on 12 January (however since this date, the same sale has been ongoing, Easter, Spring etc!!!). We were not aware that we needed to make an appointment for the design, however they were able to squeeze us in, but the bloke at first said, "sorry, busy" and walked off! I chased after him saying" well, can I make an appointment ...
...people, we discovered that whilst MFI were charging £1100 for fitting (not including plumbing and electrics), we could get the job done for £500 by a local carpenter. MFI fitter came out and measured the kitchen and agreed that we could fit in a couple of extra cupboards etc, and quoted an extra £90 for plumbing and £600 for electrics. This now brought the total cost for fitting the kitchen up to £1800. We decided NOT to have MFI fit the kitchen. ...

MFI Stockholm Kitchen

Advantages: Good Price - Well made
Disadvantages: Still waiting for stuff to arrive.

...had heard good things about MFI so i decided to pop into the showroom and check out some of the kitchens they had in store. We eventually decided to go with MFI as there was a kitchen in the Stockholm range that we really liked. We arranged an appointment with one of their in-store kictchen designers and decided that we were happy with what we saw and ordered the kitchen. The kitchen was paid for and ordered in January 2004. The kitchen was due ...
...arrive. I rang the MFI helpdesk and the advisor assured me that the remaining stock would be delivered on day 3 of the fitting week, and besides the stock that hadn't been delivered was stuff that didn't need to be installed until the very end of the week. The day of the fitting came and the fitter looked through the list of stock that was yet to be delivered, and realised that this included my hob and also half of the base units, which is obviously ...

MFI Kitchen, design and installation

Advantages: Cheap!
Disadvantages: A little bit stressful

...of buying my kitchen from MFI but I felt I was armed with all of the facts and as the kitchen came in at 1k less than the nearest competitor (Homebase) I was quite keen to use them. My other concern was all of the problems I have read about when purchasing a flat packed kitchen from one company and having it installed by someone else - this seems to remove all responsibility from the vendor of the kitchen as they simply blame the installers for ...
...10th working day, I called MFI as I had not heard from the fitter, they said they would get back to me. Within 30 mins, the fitter called me and arranged to come over in the evening a few days later. He turned up on time, checked all of the measurements and the design - added extras to my installation fee (for gas supply fitting and moving the water inlet, I was made fully aware of these by MFI so this was not a surprise - and you have 24 hours ...

instructions?

Advantages: many screws left over
Disadvantages: pain in the buttocks

A few weeks ago a friend commissioned me to build and install his new kitchen, this involved stripping the existing fittings out the old units rewiring and plumbing prior to fitting the new equipment. This proved to be no mean feat M.F.I. seem to consider the method of construction to be perfect who ever writes their instructions must live in cloud cuckoo land, the words and pictures dont relate to the packages. Problem three was the cabinet edges being finished in dark wood on a light beech finish. The reply was all units are ...

MFI: Full end to end service not at all bad

Advantages: Good quality. Complete price breakdown
Disadvantages: Long time to wait, installation expensive

MFI premier service. Overall a positive end to end experience. Let me set the scene: I am a perfectionist and extremely fussy. I did a lot of shopping around and decided on MFI for the cost verses the quality of the product. My kitchen is large at 14+ units, my budget was £7k and I paid £7k. Installation took 5 days. Moben (same furniture as Kitchen's Direct) I discounted on cost: quote was £11-£13k. Kitchen's direct cheapest quote £8.5k on the ...
...not work with Vista. MFI experience. The in-store customer service rep was excellent and not at all pushy. He listened to what I wanted and came up with some great design ideas. MFI came to my house and measured up and we had a follow up design consultation. What I liked most about MFI is that the prices for everything are separate. This allowed me to work backwards to find out which design of kitchen would fit to my budget. The selection of choice ...

Three Hundred Pounds for MFI Nightmare

Advantages: Good In store service and compensation
Disadvantages: general aggrivation and delay

Last January I ordered an MFI kitchen. Value around £4000. The store assistants were very helpful, designing and planning the kitchen. I February the kitchen arrived. The kitchen refit was a major job, from the foundations upwards. Floors rippped up, ceilings lowered, new electrics and plumbing. All these parts went well. Then came the fitting of the new kitchen. Unit 1, the larder unit housing the fridge freezer. Well, the box number was correct ...
...I have used MFI before but after this kitchen I dont think I will be again. I got so fed up with the hassle that I eventually Emailed them asking for £300 compensation and GUESS WHAT? It arrived two weeks later. I hope this is a little warning of things to watch out for... ...

MFI easy and cheep

Advantages: easy and cheep
Disadvantages: staff at store need better training in customer care

With recently moving into my house I found it cheaper to buy furniture flat packed. Apart from any thing it is easy to put up and you can get everything to match. The kitchen units where the best. The only problem was the draws as I had bad experience in the past, i.e. the fronts fall off or the bass fall's out. The solution I found out was the glue a piece of wood under the bass of the draw at the front. Or you can fix it with screws or nails from ...
...unit and adds strength to the draws. The kitchen sink fitted nicety into the bass unit and the whole kitchen was finished of with child locks. I buy a lot of furniture flat packed and as long as the draws are reinforced there is very rearly a problem. Ok the staff at the local store could do with training in customer care but the furniture is not bad. ...

Don't even go there!!!

Advantages: only to MFi - who made tons of money out of us
Disadvantages: this kitchen installation was a nightmare experience - not recomended

...the installation service sold by MFI - by their designated 'professional' fitters Tuckers of Bristol. At the point of sale we were deceived; we asked if we could just have the work tops cut and we wanted to do the installation of the units ourselves, as my husband said he didn't want the kitchen units hacked about. We were told It was not possible to do this and we were assured that there would definitely not be any hacking about, the sales woman ...
...securely fixed, etc etc etc MFI agreed to supply numerous replacement units, but we refused to let the installers back to have another go at installing them. In the end it was necessary to take out the entire kitchen, apart from 4 wall cupboards, and re fit the entire kitchen ourseleves. We tried to reclaim some of the installation cost , but MFI would not give us a penny! Take our advice and buy your kitchen installation from any one other than ...

An MFI Kitchen at your peril!

Advantages: Easy planning
Disadvantages: Too many to list in this space

After ordering the kitchen, which was fairly painless, my kitchen arrived in two deliveries, the first on the pre-arranged date and the second about 3 weeks later. They had delivered( and ordered) double the worktops needed and an extra hob too! The kitchen itself is of the averadge industry standard but a combination of kitchen planner error, courier services and ill-informed telephone advisors has led to the "red mist" falling over one particular ...

I have made numerous calls, stayed at home to receive these various deliveries and been rewarded with two wrong sized doors and a damaged door. I have now had my extra pieces collected, 9 days ago, and am still waiting to be credited for them and plan to take back about 10 other boxes which contain various pieces that ...

MFI has really come up and the product is much stronger and easier to put together. I think that MFI have really moved into 2007 I stll think that people are a bit weary and need to be educated about the new MFI its really worth it and of course real value for money so why pay more? ...

Mostly Fabby Interior

Advantages: Looks good
Disadvantages: Fitting units around existing pipework

Persuaded by MFI's recent January sale, we purchased units from the Nebraska range - fairly plain white affair - along with a 1.5 bowl sink and beech effect worktop. I'm delighted with the finished result, if only because my previous "kitchen" was soooo awful. The only trauma we had was fitting the units in around the existing plumbing. Also, the sink unit was 35mm too small to house the sink but with a bit of chiselling we made it fit! Once the ...

Lazy mfi

Advantages: easy to deliver
Disadvantages: bits missing often

When we looked around the mfi show room and set eyes on the kitchen we wanted we couldnt wait to find a member of staff to help, we could see a man standing /leaning against the counter but as we walked over to him he turned and walked away ? Anyway after another 5 mins searching we found someone to help us (well sort off) we asked for a computor print out of how our kitchen will look and for ideas on space saving solutions. He just sat there saying ...

We did find many pieces missing that we had to phone up about and complain which did delay the actuall building of the kitchen by 5 days but once it was all together we were very pleased and its been 1 year now and we still are very satisfied all round with the end result. We recieved gaurantees for all the applainces we purchased ...
