This MSI Wind comes in many different flavours, the version I have is the Advent 4211. A rebadged MSI Wind by PC World. The MSI Wind is part of a new wave of "SSCs" (Small Cheap Computers). Low powered computers sold cheap. In general they come in two sizes (8" and 10"), most use the with the same hardware under the hood. The current standard is a Intel Atom 1.6GHz, between 512 MB and 1GB of RAM and a Intel 945 graphics adapter. The different brands then change the quality of the screen, rearrange the keyboard and increase or reduce the build quality. The MSI Wind is a on the high end of ... more

Possibly The Best Notebook On The Market Notebook laptops have become all the rage in the past year or two. Known for their ease of use, ultimate portability and value for money notebooks have become popular amongst university students to office workers. The MSI WIND is a great addition to the large range of notebooks already on the market and is quite possible up there with the best. A little bit about the WIND The WIND was created by Taiwan based company Micro Star International. WIND stands for Wi-Fi Network Device so as you would probably imagine this was not designed for serious gaming ... more

Advantages Advantages Small and lightweight with good screen and keyboard size

Disadvantages Disadvantages 3-cell battery only lasts 2 hours so buy one with a 6-cell battery

I bought the MSI Wind U100 in October 2008 whilst on holiday in the US for just $380 and it is one of the best purchases I have made in the last year. I have used it every day since then and have had no problems at all with it. It is extremely portable due to its small size and low weight and does everything I need it to. My primary use for it is surfing the internet and typing up reports. I also make use of the built in card reader to transfer pictures from my digital camera. I was originally going to buy an Asus Eee PC 901 but after trying it at a shop alongside the MSI Wind, I found the MSI ... more

4 Stars Quick review of MSI WIND U100 by GuDoN 02/04/2009
Very nice notebook. Why I only voted this good... Firstly, if you plan on using CD/DVD's where you're at, you'll need a portable DVD player, which could be more clutter to carry around with you. Secondly, the screen size is a down point for me, personally. When I worked on an Excel document, I discovered that the screen doesn't show the whole document, and it actually moves with your mouse if you move to the corners. I guess it would have looked stupid if the notebook actually fitted the document in the small screen area. But I found it a bit ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap and easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages No optical drive, battery not amazing

The Advent 4211 is an often overlooked re-branded version of the MSI Wind. It is powered by the Intel Atom 1.6GHZ processor and has 1GB RAM as standard which I upgraded to 2GB. My version has the 80GB hard drive which is plenty of space for me. I find the 10.2in monitor just big enough to be comfortable and wouldn't recommend going for any Netbooks with 8in monitors as they would be a little small. It runs a cut down version of XP Home with ease and can cope with most general office type tasks with no problem. There is no optical drive so I purchased a very cheap CD drive which is fine if the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Battery life, Size

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pixels on the screen

I bought my MSI Wind around a year ago, I have since fallen in love with it, bbut come to hate it on occasions! It is brilliant for the creation of Word Documents and is a good way to carry about my Business documents, however in terms of Pure processing power, it falls down flat on its face. The MSI Wind boasts a Dual Core 1.6 GHz processor (which means 2 800Mhz Cores). If the processor wasn't a dual core, I dont think it could even run windows! The second drawback would be the screen pixels. A little over 10 inches is the perfect size for a Laptop screen in my opinion. However, the MSI Wind ... more

Advantages Advantages Very Portable, Light, 6 cell battery

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no cd\dvd

if you having second thoughts don't ! this is a great product. it has everything you look for in a computer and everything you look for in a small portable gadget. My main concern before buying was the small screen (10 inch only). once I started to work with it I found out the screen is just about right. the resolution was adjusted to the screen size and so no problem here. The 6 cell battery was my pick and it is the right pick. It lasts almost 5.5 hours which is the most you can expect from a laptop. like all MSI products it comes with a webcam and a good keyboard design. it does not ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages not always reliable

This is a fairly decent little netbook, the only complaints are that it was not very reliable for me, until i upgraded the ram to 1.49gb and loaded the machine with windows 7 ultimate and now its as quick as a fiddle and i use it for iphone app developing without any problems. its ram is upgradeable to a max of 2gigs and it can easily handle windows 7 with a minimum of 1gig. i use it mainly for travel and data storage with its 80gb sata hd which is fairly large for a netbook of its size and weight. It comes with me on the plane with no hassle at all and is a great little web surfer for those ... more
