Might be cheap...might not be!

Advantages: Some great offers, large selection of items
Disadvantages: All prices exclude VAT; can sound cheaper than it actually is

I first began visiting Makro just over 3 years ago, when I started a new job. All employees were able to apply for a Makro card. I wasn't over eager on getting a card - I had never been to Makro although as it was quite close to where I lived, passed it many times a week. However, a card was ordered for me anyway. I didn't use the card for a few months until a 'Makro Mail' appeared on my desk at work. The Makro Mail is a magazine sent out by Makro ...

...is to get into a Makro store if you don't have a card, your card has expired or if you are shopping at a different store to your regular one! WHAT IS MAKRO --------------- For those who aren't familiar with the everyday house of wholesale, it is a trade only wholesale warehouse where card holders (and only card holders) can obtain goods at less than retail prices. ...everyone knows someone with a Makro card! Speaking of exclusivity gone mad, at our local store, they even check your card on the way out, whether you bought anything or not..... would someone tell me just what they would do (if by some fluke of nature you managed to get in through the armed guards with the attitude problem, didn't buy anything and went out) if you didn't have a card? Arrest you and put you in solitary? I don't think so..... so what ...

...We have had the Liverpool Makro store since before I was born, and my grandad used to take me as a small child as he loved going to supermarkets and places like that, I guess that’s where I get it from! Makro, a few years ago was refitted adding a whole new front to the store, and I gather that all stores now look Identical. I go to Makro to buy things that we use a lot of at home like toilet rolls and washing powder-that sort of thing. ~How do ...
...wrong? To get a Makro card, you need to work at a business or have your own business, and then you need to print out an application form from their website www.makro.co.uk. Once you have sent out the form you receive a Makro ‘Tradecard’ for you, and other people that work in your office/workplace. The different types of workplace/business that can apply for Makro cards are listed on the application form/website. And if you think it sounds difficult ...

Bargains but you have to queue for them

Advantages: stocks lots
Disadvantages: staff and waiting time

Makro is a wholesale outlet and they have many stores situated throughout the country, those that come to mind are Acton, Reading, Poole, Croydon etc. How does it work? You have to be in business to get a free makro card that gives you entry to shop in any of their stores. The card can be applied for with company or business letterheads, you do not have to be vat registered or anything like that. I have been told that many card holders have obtained ...

Makro look for the deals

Advantages: Some good deals
Disadvantages: no major ones

Makro is really a shop for small traders, the traditional corner shops, caterers, hotels or news agents. At least this seems to have been what it’s set up for but I think over the years they have realized how many people come in with the Makro card that aren’t in any of the above mentioned trades. The Makro card I mentioned is what you need to get in. Without it they won’t let you in although they may give you a trade pass for the day. The way to ...

...I know exactly which marketplace Makro serves. Its newly refurbished warehouse in Edinburgh has a huge sign on the wall saying “for professionals” – very descriptive I must say. Now a significant proportion of the goods on sale are available in trade packs only and yet it’s easy to buy a single inkjet cartridge or a TV or a kettle or a single item of clothing. You need to have a business identity and prove it actually trades to get a card for access ...

The Edinburgh store stocks a wide range of household goods-curtains, towels, kitchen utensils; car accessories – oils, tools, wiper blades, polishes; gardening bits and pieces – barbeques, fertilisers, seating, patio heaters; books, cd’s dvd’s, office equipment and supplies, TV’s, videos, dvd ...

MUST GO TO MAKRO

Advantages: Big savings

...a month we receive the Makro Mail which is a mail shot showing all their lastest offers and it really is a well laid out magazine. So I have a browse through it before I open the mail as I have all day to open the mail and besides my boss isn't about. I notice a few good offers on crisps and chewing gum so I make my mind up to visit Makro on Sunday. Now don't laugh about the crisps or the gum because if you listen you will realise it saving me pounds. ...
...about half the price in Makro so it's a trip worth going on. And also the chewing gum works out way cheaper as well and I need that after a night on the alcohol. Of course they don't just sell crisps and gum they sell just about everything. One thing I must mention is they only sell to the trade so you need a Makro card to get into the place but I got my work to get me one but you can either apply for one yourself or get a tempory day pass in. ...

Makro Great Store For Bargains

...I went to Makro yesterday to get blank CD’s which I had spotted in their catalogue which they post out once a month. Now to get into Makro you need a card, I don’t have one myself but I borrowed one from the Company I work for, just a pity I couldn’t get them to pay for the CD’s !! Makro has everything from Sweets to Car accessories to Televisions, Computers, Clothes and books etc. I personally use it for computer related stuff and perhaps the odd item of clothing. Now the annoying thing about Makro is everything is priced without the V.a.t being marked on it so what I do is divide the item by 6 and add it on to the Nett figure. Aright it’s not exact but it’s not far wrong. The blank CD’s were ...

...am not a customer of Makro for sometime, I (unfortunatly) worked as a checkout operator for this sorry excuse of a business. Makro is NOT a supermarket, It calles itself a SELF SERVICE WHOLESALER, a one stop shop for small to big businesses such as independent grocers, caterers and offices. Hence a Makro Tradecard is needed. This is a pass which allows you entry into the store, and you need to give this pass to the checkout operator to activate ...

However, there are a lot of people who tend to borrow their friends/families/colleauges Makro cards to buy their grocery shopping and treat it like a supermarket. Bargains but you need pass card

Advantages: Good offers; Plenty of choice
Disadvantages: Need a pass

Makro is a wholesale club, like Costco. Unlike Costco, it's ownership seems to be British. It has been in Britain for many years and has built up quite a membership. It's not the place to do your weekly shop, but is the place to head for toys and presents. Another thing that differentiates it from Costco is that it is not warehouse-like inside - although the exterior of its buildings tend to be like warehouses. Inside is clean, airy and well-lit. ...
...In the good old days Makro was very cheap. It was a wholesaler, with prices much less than in the shops. Now, though, they have updated their image, gone a bit slick and it shows in the prices. They do have good offers, though, and it is worth keeping an eye on these. Recently, my husband and I bought a Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse for £47 (inc VAT) - almost half the price of PC World. Makro sell what they describe as 'Food' and 'Non-Food'. ...

Can be cheap, but do not assume everything is

Advantages: Very wide range of goods, excellent quality products.
Disadvantages: Not always cheap prices.

At first sight, Makro products are cheap, and they have a very wide range of food, and non-food items on sale. However, closer inspection will reveal that once the VAT has been added to the shelf prices of all non-food merchandise, you may be able to find better prices elsewhere! A very extensive range of Food items, including wines and spirits is available. However, once again, do not assume their prices are low. Many products are in fact CHEAPER ...
...market stalls. Makro produces a fortnightly Makro Mail sheet full of "special offers". THESE items are invariably extremely good value for money, and it is unlikely that better prices can be found elsewhere. However, there is always the odd exception! If you purchase faulty goods, something that doesnt fit, or even if you simply change your mind about the colour, Makro are exceptionally obliging with regard to changing the item, or refunding the ...

Makro is a wholesale store which only members can enter. It sells products such as food and drink (designed for the catering industry) in bulk and also sells loads of other products such as clothing, music, video and games, Electrical appliances jewelry and loads more! For instance The CDs currently cost £7.99 excluding VAT which comes to a total of about £9.40! which is the cheapest in out town! Buying in bulk is a lot cheaper but there are smaller options to choose. This store is for everyone as there are loads of stuff here! The aisles are big so it gets less cluttered and the tills ...

Makro Economics

Advantages: Wide range of stock
Disadvantages: VAT not included in prices; some downmarket brands stocked

Dutch giant Makro has 27 warehouses across the country (see end of article for locations), and chains elsewhere around the world, which may not have the same name. It is not a discount club, like Costco, but a wholesale Cash and Carry. The fact is, though, that people use it like Costco, because almost anyone can gain access to the "stores", whether they are traders or not. I often feel sorry for the genuine small shopkeeper struggling along with ...
...own wholesaler. It is because Makro admits virtually anyone (while on the face of it trying very unconvincingly to restrict access to genuine traders) that the majority of real corner shopkeepers would never grace Makro with their custom. However, they continue the pretence (isn't it a bit like Matalan - what's that all about? They don't pretend to be wholesalers, so why do we have to have a card?) of being wholesalers, and the rest of us can profit ...
