Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by zoe_page

Advantages: Sweet stories, well-written, funny characters
Disadvantages: Not representative of the current state of the world

Out of all the school stories that Enid Blyton wrote, Malory Towers was my favourite set. The 6 books in the series follow a group of girls at a boarding school in the south of England, with each novel describing a year in their lives. There are certain story lines and themes that run throughout the series, but each book is written so they can be read individually, and in the first couple of chapters you get all the info you need to get you up to ... MALORY TOWERS - JOLLY HOCKEYSTICKS
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by kismet

Advantages: easy to read, simple values,
Disadvantages: bit outdated now, not seen as "PC" by some people

When I was a little girl I was an avid reader. Enid Blyton was my favourite author. In todays world, her books seem very simple and old fashioned because people had very different values back in the days in which the books are based. I think that children of today would probably be bored with the books, however I still have all of mine, ready to pass on to my daugher (if I have one) one day. There were six books in the Malory Towers series: · ... Read review

Childhood relived
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by alleykatz

Advantages: Enchanting childrens stories
Disadvantages: Slightly politically incorrect if your that way inclined!

...series of books was the Mallory Towers, school series. ST Clares ran a close second! Mallory Towers is a girls boarding school, set in the picturesque backdrop of the cornish coast. The main character is a girl called Darrel Rivers, her friend Sally Hope and a lot of other colorful characters, Alicia, the brainy kid, who doesn't have to work at anything, and can still play the fool, with some of her amazing jokes and pranks (usually played on the ... Welcome To The World Of Midnight Feasts
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by KarenUK

Advantages: good fun, a great read, engaging characters
Disadvantages: seem rather dated nowadays

The Malory Towers series of books by Enid Blyton was my favourite reading material for a lot of my childhood. I was a voracious reader anyway (Still am, when I find the time), but these books were special. I loved the idea of going to boarding school, though I never did. The idea of dormitories and midnight feasts sounded magical and I'm sure I would have chosen to go to Malory Towers myself, if it had been a real place. There are five Malory Towers ... Read review

One of my favorites
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by rabbiter

Advantages: easy to read
Disadvantages: I'm getting too old for it

...‘forest folk’, but my book, Mallory Towers, is nothing like that. These books are about Darrell Rivers and her friends, Sally, Mary-Lou etc. and all of their adventures (including running away, swimming the coast, dramatic rescues and much more) in their Boarding School by the sunny sea. Darrell’s life has many problems, including, a hot temper (which even helps her to lose her place as 3rd year head girl), Gwendolyn (Mallory ... Read review

A childhood favourite...
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by emmy72

Advantages: Written in a more innocent time
Disadvantages: Only six books in the series.....

Mallory Towers is a story about a girl's boarding school in Cornwall in Cornwall. It is written in a series of six novels, which sees the main character Darrell Rivers and her friends grow into women. For a child these days, Mallory Towers may be dull compared to the adventures in Hogwarts, the school from Harry Potter but it has good characters and children who love too create havoc just the same. The Malloryb Towers Headmistress, Miss Grayling ... Read review

Mallory Towers - still going strong.
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by melaniepither

Advantages: Great stories for adults and children alike.
Disadvantages: Maybe a little too simple for some of todays children

...and was first introduced to Mallory Towers by my Mum aged around ten. I can still remember how much I enjoyed the first book, reading it under my covers with a torch in the same way my eight year old does now with Harry Potter! There are six books in the series, each covering a year in the life of a group of school friends - Darrell, her best friend Sally, Mary-Ann and Irene a scatter-brained maths genius among others. There is also the thoroughly ... Read review

Mallory Towers Box Set
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by Mean_Jean

Advantages: Timeless
Disadvantages: Too popular, not in stock

I loved all the Mallory Towers books and cannot believe there are only 6 of them, I felt I had read more. They captivated me to the last story and my youngest daughter, Hannah, aged 9, has wrote her wish list to santa requesting Mallory Towers. I will make sure that Santa takes this request very seriously so I can have the opportunity to read them again and share the experience with Hannah. It doesn't matter that school life is depicted differently ... Read review

Mallory Towers
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by emzemails

Advantages: Entertaining and easy to read
Disadvantages: Not similar to the schooling system now

...end. I especially loved the Mallory Towers series and found them very entertaining. Unfortunately the stories do not represent how schooling is these days, but most definately a good read. Well written and very entertaining. I have recently re-read this series (At 19 years old) and still enjoyed it. Definately a set that won't be heading off to the charity shop, but rather will fill my up my bookshelf. I certainly do wish that my school was similar ... Read review

Mallory Towers by Enid Blyton
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by SebastiansMommy

Advantages: Enid Blyton
Disadvantages: old English language used. i.e. the use of "shillings" etc.

...classmates in their adventures at Mallory Towers each term by reading these marvellous stories created by Enid Blyton. From midnight feasts to playing tricks on the ever-unsuspecting and hot-tempered "Mam'zelle" and moonlit swims, each page holds a giggle and makes the imagination come alive. I would say the books are best aimed for children aged 7 years to 11 years, although if you find yourself buying this, you will most likely find yourself reading ... Read review

Good for the imaginative child
Review of Mallory Towers - Enid Blyton by stoofer

Advantages: Good yarn
Disadvantages: Dated and jaded view of the world

As a child I loved Mallory Towers, though as an adult Blyton's world is a bit strange to say the least. I attempted to read one of the Mallory Towers books when I was about 13 and found them ridiculous. However, for a child, it doesn't really matter. It doesn't result in taking Blyton's assumptions about class into later life! The endless rounds of hair brushing, picnics and lots of vigourous exercise seem like great fun. For a pre-pubescent girl, ... Read review
