Best of Three

AdvantagesThey enrol people, not grades

DisadvantagesSome campuses are a bit spread out.

"...second year of study at Manchester Metropolitan University, affectionately known as ManMet or MMU. My course is Consumer Marketing and I’m reading for a Degree. Initially I never wanted to go to university. All the way through high school I wanted to be a chef and chose to do NVQs relevant to this field instead of sitting A-Levels. So the time came when I left college with my NVQs and had to get a job. This I did. I worked hard for about ..." Read review

Hollings Campus Main

AdvantagesGood Union, Great Area, Nice People

DisadvantagesCrime and Violence, Buildings, Location

"...am currently studying at the Manchester Metropolitan University at the Hollings campus in Fallowfield studying Events Management. On the course elsewhere. I have enjoyed my first year at the Met, the let downs of the hollings campus is the lack of lifts in a seven floor building, the temperature always seems to be intensly hot or extremely cold, this is probably due to it being based in the toastrack building which is old and registered meaning ..." Whippin' Piccadilly

AdvantagesToo many to count!

DisadvantagesRainy weather, a few dodgy surrounding areas

"...fun. Eventually he settled on Manchester University and, whilst I didn't want to do the English degree there, I found that I did want to do the course offered at Manchester Metropolitan University, which was very nearby. I also thought the people there would be a bit more fun. There's a time for work, but there's also a time for play and I was afraid I'd be surrounded by horrifically intelligent people and seem a bit dense in comparison! I'll admit ..." Read review

Great University

AdvantagesModern Facilities, Student Union is good, Lots of courses, it's in Manchester

DisadvantagesDisadvantages:* Some buildings need updating, the weather can be bad

"...an insight into what else Manchester as a City has to offer. I'd recommend coming to Manchester Metropolitan University, I've enjoyed my time here, have made some great friends, and I've got a good education at the same time. ..." Read review

You wont regret going

Advantages-

Disadvantages-

"...that is what they want. Manchester Met is a university that my sister attends and having visited their many time I can thoroughly recommend it. The entry grades are not as quite tough as Umist (University of Manchester) but the teaching standard is high. There are a lot of different courses you can chose from, and there is an excellent union with all the facilities, located near a bus station it is easily accessible. It is not for from the other ..." The Student's Union is great!

AdvantagesGreat Union

Disadvantages

"...in the evening. I went to Manchester University and although the Union was ok, it was a bit grotty, especially in the Cellar. I started going to the Met Union as I had a friend there, and it is great. There are two main bars, and on 'club' nights it has the advantgae that you can use both. Top Bar becomes a sort of night club where you can but chips and cheap drinks, while the other remains a normal bar and can be used as a 'chill out' zone. ..." Read review

Youve Heard about the union, now for the university

AdvantagesGood place, good staff

DisadvantagesManchester can be abit wet

"Um - so ive been to the union and it is truly ace - as are the eateries that surround it:) I do go to the met- it really is a top place to study. My course is an arts one and they really have a good library and academic staff. The campus is also quite well arranged in the town centre.... and not too far from the train station. The main building has just had a bit of a revamp.. and ;looks pretty funky. But the institution is pretty well setup ..." Read review

teacher training

Advantagessaves money

Disadvantagesnone

"The Crewe institute of education is in my opinion excellent, but I feel that one has to be extremely ruthless when choosing your course at it can often save you a huge amount of money. for example: A four year course in primary education ICT would cost you 4 years of maintenace loan plus four years of tuition fees. Alternativley you could profit from your university experience by taking a two year course in secondary Business and ICT education, ..." Read review

Manchester Met, BETTER, then the REST!!

AdvantagesGREAT ATMOSPHERE

DisadvantagesWEATHER

"Being a fresher, at a Manchester Met can be a very dauting experience, but my experience was totally different. I found myself going to all the wrong lectures, the staff are sooo committed here, its unbelivable! Manchester Met has a lot to offer students, the adcademic side of the university is excellent and also the social side is excellent to. The students union is the place to be, with drinks at a reasonable price, the entertainment is also of ..." Read review

this place is great

Advantagesgreat sports teams

Disadvantagespoor food

"...go to part of the manchester metropolitan university in Alsager. Its such a nice place to live, great scenery. Its in the middle of no where, but the student union organises nights out into the closest town for clubbing. Which if you go with the right people you can have the best night ever. As I have said, the food in the canteen isn't exactly the best, but there is better variety than most places. The halls of residence are very practical and quite ..." Read review

MMU Hell??

AdvantagesStudying in Manchester

Disadvantages2nd rate university??

"...unfortunate reality of studying in Manchester that everyone you meet whether they be employers, new friends etc, when you tell them of your studies they assume you were at Manchester Uni not anywhere else. The usual response I have come across is "oh", then a glance which suggests maybe you are simply not clever enough for the "better" uni. This is especially the case with people from Manchester Uni itself, my flatmates (all from there) are such snobs ..." Read review

Manchester Metropolitan Uni - good for arts & vocational subjects

Advantagesgood social life

DisadvantagesMedium cost accommodation and crime

"Manchester Metropolitan University is one of the 2 big universities in Manchester (Greater Manchester as a whole of course has more). It used to be a polytechnic but got upgraded to university status towards the end of the last century. In my opinion it excels in its vocational and arts subjects. Its a very student focussed placed, as it should be of course, the staff are generally helpful and the students union is large and good. Manchester is a ..." Read review

Met is still a uni!

Advantages

Disadvantages

"Manchester Metropolitan is the biggest university in Manchester. It has campus' in the town centre such as Aytown and John Dalton, a campus in Didsbury(5 miles out of the centre) and it also has a campus in Crewe(40 miles out of Manchester). If you go to this university make sure you go to the Campus' that are in the town centre as they have all the facilities that you need but the others should be avoided if possible. This university is not as good ..." Read review

Very proud of Being MMU Graduate

AdvantagesStudent Centered

DisadvantagesNone

"I am currently a student at MMU, doing my Master in education leadership and I am very impressed with the high caliber of professors who push students to give ther best of themselves, Actually, when I joined the university in the beginning, I did not think I would learn a lot from the course as I had already got my master in TESOL.However, at the dissertation writing stage, I realized that there were a lot of things especially those related research ..."
