Advantages Advantages They enrol people, not grades

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some campuses are a bit spread out.

I am now nearing the end of second year of study at Manchester Metropolitan University, affectionately known as ManMet or MMU. My course is Consumer Marketing and I’m reading for a Degree. Initially I never wanted to go to university. All the way through high school I wanted to be a chef and chose to do NVQs relevant to this field instead of sitting A-Levels. So the time came when I left college with my NVQs and had to get a job. This I did. I worked hard for about a year and half until I was a walking zombie. My job had driven me down into the ground. I had a fantastic career set in ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Union, Great Area, Nice People

Disadvantages Disadvantages Crime and Violence, Buildings, Location

I am currently studying at the Manchester Metropolitan University at the Hollings campus in Fallowfield studying Events Management. On the course elsewhere. I have enjoyed my first year at the Met, the let downs of the hollings campus is the lack of lifts in a seven floor building, the temperature always seems to be intensly hot or extremely cold, this is probably due to it being based in the toastrack building which is old and registered meaning not much can be done to it. The campus houses Hospitality, and Tourism Management Courses, Food Technology, and Fashion mainly, oddly there is also ... more

Advantages Advantages Too many to count!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rainy weather, a few dodgy surrounding areas

When the topic of which university we should attend came up at college, it crept up and took me completely by surprise. I knew I wanted to study a degree somewhere, but it was only when my then boyfriend starting applying left, right and centre for places that I realised I might need to put in a bit of groundwork. Being something of a genius, he applied to Cambridge and Oxford (where he was offered places), but as well as putting his brain to good use, he also wanted a bit of fun. Eventually he settled on Manchester University and, whilst I didn't want to do the English degree there, I found ... more

Advantages Advantages Modern Facilities, Student Union is good, Lots of courses, it's in Manchester

Disadvantages Disadvantages Disadvantages:* Some buildings need updating, the weather can be bad

Last year I was on my Foundation Year at MMU I passed that and I'm now on a BSc Information Technology course. I live at home in Warrington and travel each day because it's only a 15 minute train journey. The University are always putting money in for improvements. A new law building that is also used for other courses has just been built and they've recently improved the computer facilities at the University to Pentium 4's with LCD monitors. The John Dalton Tower block is having £40 Million spent on it to modernise and extend it. At MMU just under 1000 courses are available for you to choose ... more

    Advantages Advantages -

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

A lot of students will have finished their A-Levels and will have decided which university to go to if that is what they want. Manchester Met is a university that my sister attends and having visited their many time I can thoroughly recommend it. The entry grades are not as quite tough as Umist (University of Manchester) but the teaching standard is high. There are a lot of different courses you can chose from, and there is an excellent union with all the facilities, located near a bus station it is easily accessible. It is not for from the other university and has a lot of things for students ... more

Although I didn't actually go to the Met Uni, I can thoroughly recommend the Students Union as a great place to go in the evening. I went to Manchester University and although the Union was ok, it was a bit grotty, especially in the Cellar. I started going to the Met Union as I had a friend there, and it is great. There are two main bars, and on 'club' nights it has the advantgae that you can use both. Top Bar becomes a sort of night club where you can but chips and cheap drinks, while the other remains a normal bar and can be used as a 'chill out' zone. The music is good and there is always a ... more

Advantages Advantages Good place, good staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Manchester can be abit wet

Um - so ive been to the union and it is truly ace - as are the eateries that surround it:) I do go to the met- it really is a top place to study. My course is an arts one and they really have a good library and academic staff. The campus is also quite well arranged in the town centre.... and not too far from the train station. The main building has just had a bit of a revamp.. and ;looks pretty funky. But the institution is pretty well setup to make sure the students are well catered for. In my first year the staff were comitted to making sure every student was ok and offering help wherever ... more

    Advantages Advantages saves money

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

The Crewe institute of education is in my opinion excellent, but I feel that one has to be extremely ruthless when choosing your course at it can often save you a huge amount of money. for example: A four year course in primary education ICT would cost you 4 years of maintenace loan plus four years of tuition fees. Alternativley you could profit from your university experience by taking a two year course in secondary Business and ICT education, followed by a paid for PGCE in primary education ICT. The primary PGCE ICT comes with free tuition and a government grant. Cost of 4 yrs BA/Bed approx ... more

    Advantages Advantages GREAT ATMOSPHERE

    Disadvantages Disadvantages WEATHER

Being a fresher, at a Manchester Met can be a very dauting experience, but my experience was totally different. I found myself going to all the wrong lectures, the staff are sooo committed here, its unbelivable! Manchester Met has a lot to offer students, the adcademic side of the university is excellent and also the social side is excellent to. The students union is the place to be, with drinks at a reasonable price, the entertainment is also of QUALITY! Other then that it also has good sporting facilities that are situated around manchester. The Met has many campuses situated around ... more

    Advantages Advantages great sports teams

    Disadvantages Disadvantages poor food

I go to part of the manchester metropolitan university in Alsager. Its such a nice place to live, great scenery. Its in the middle of no where, but the student union organises nights out into the closest town for clubbing. Which if you go with the right people you can have the best night ever. As I have said, the food in the canteen isn't exactly the best, but there is better variety than most places. The halls of residence are very practical and quite spacious for uni rooms. The sports teams are brilliant and more or less all sports have teams depending on interest. There is a gym and ... more
