My Assessment: Current Squad and Season Prospects

Advantages: Good young squad
Disadvantages: Missing at least one key player

Manchester United have had a mixed start to the season by their own high standards and many people have been speculating as to what the problems are with the squad and who will be brought in to fix it. For what it is worth, here is my assessment of the current squad and my feelings on the team’s prospects for the season. I am a Manchester United fan so if any of this seems bias or optimistic then I apologise. I will try and be objective and give ...
...can deny that on paper Manchester United have a squad to challenge with the best teams in the world. They have players with fantastic reputations in all the right places and while it is not a squad of superstars like Chelsea or Real Madrid, it has more than it’s share of world class players mixed with good squad players. Over recent seasons Sir Alex has gone about building a young squad of players with a view to dominating the English game (and ...

...Sir Matt Busby played in Manchester United's cherished history. He was manager when United won their first ever European Cup (arguably more important than the sucess of 99'). That sucess in 1968 was down to a 4-1 crushing of Benfica in the final. The goals scored by Bobby Charlton (2), George Best and Brian Kidd completed the dream achievement for Sir Matt and gave him a place in history that can never be taken, the first United manager to win the ...

Man Utd - The Team I Love To . . . Love

Advantages: Great Potential
Disadvantages: Disappointing Last Season

Last season Man Utd were very disappointing. We finished fourth out of four in the group stage of the Champions League which meant we crashed out of the Champions League and the Uefa Cup in one painful blow. The reason for this is perplexing, none of the teams we played (and got beaten by) had a superior squad, manager, stadium or fan base. I tried to take some positive out of no European football and this is what i came out with; as Liverpool, Chelsea ...
...they may concentrate some of their attention on the possibility they could win the mot prestigious club competition in the world. With the other big English teams distracted we (Man Utd) could now put our full attention on winning the Barclays Premiership. With extra matches in the season the other English team also had the problem of fatigue which could benefit us as this would force them to play either tired or less talented players which should, ...

Make or Break Season Ahead

Advantages: With a track record like Ferguson's, United can't be written off
Disadvantages: Weakeness in cover upfront and in midfield. Lacking World class players

Manchester United =================================== Background Information. Formed in 1878 (as Newton Heath FC) Manchester United Football Club has gone on to establish itself as one of the most famous and successful English football clubs. Their home is the 75,000 capacity Old Trafford Stadium. Nicknamed the Red Devils, they are reported to be the best-supported football club in the world. They have won 15 League titles, 11 F.A cups and the ...

Manchester United has been home to some of the most talented footballers of their generations, these have included Sir Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law, George Best and Eric Cantona. ===================================== The 2006-07 team appears to be a team in an indeterminate state, wedged between two phases in Manchester United history, the end of an old generation or the beginning of a new one. ...from little acorns grow. Nowadays Manchester United are considered one of the great club sides not only of English football, but on the world stage. They won the old English First Division on seven occasions, and have won the Premiership the same number of times since their maiden victory back in 1993. Twice they have been kings of Europe, with their famous 4 - 1 victory against Benfica in 1968 (George Best's final), and more recently in 1999, ...
...1902, and they went bankrupt. Manchester United rose like a phoenix from the ashes, and have never been out of the top two divisions of the English League ever since, winning their first League title in 1908. They won the FA Cup for the first time the following year (1909) but then sank into virtual obscurity for nearly the next 40 years, until they repeated the accomplishment again shortly after the war in 1948. ~ ~ In the early 1950's they reached ...

...love. I love football, namely Manchester United nearly as much as my boyfriend! Yes I’m a girl and I’m going to talk to you about United from a ‘birds’ perspective. Not about the nice bums or the tasty legs, because frankly I don’t notice these, but about The Red Devils how I see them. I'm not going to bore you with the Beckham saga because it has been covered over and over again by the press. Instead I give you this... I’ve decided to write this ...

So anyway it was three points in the bag, but if Nathan Blake hadn’t been as terrible at shooting as he is then they might have stolen a point or even all three. (Like Southampton did in our last game) So I’m not an arm chair supporter, I’ll probably go to the majority of home games this season and a couple of aways, throw a few of Europeans in there ...

...largly dramatic fashion. From Manchester United's point of view, it did seem that they had saved their worst game of the season for the last, and most important one. The start that Man Utd supporters were dreading and couldn't dream off, was very soon reality. 5 minutes on the clock and a free-kick was conceded in a dangerous position. Bayern Munich saw this as a precious opportunity and were looking to take full advantage. Quite a few Bayern Munich ...
...in his last game for Manchester United, he would of preferred a better start. With no Paul Scholes and no captain Roy Keane due to suspension, United were lacking an individual who could lift the team again, even though the captain's band was handed to Schmeichel who could hardly fulfill a captain's duty to the fullest from goal. At the time, I was 11 years old. I watched the shot go in while sat on the dinner table with my food in front of me. Before ...

All Time Man Utd team since 1968

Disadvantages: No World Class Full Backs

All time Man United Team (since 1968 when I first watched them) Schmeichel Gary Neville Buchan Stam Irwin Keane Robson Cantona Charlton Best Law Why? Goalkeeper This one is easy. Peter Schmeichel is in a class of his own, size, saving ability, aerial, dominance, passion, clearances. Who else is there? Barthez, Bailey, Stepney Others were better whilst at other teams. ...And so by default right back goes to Gary Neville. Who else is there? I can’t help feeling that Johnny Sivebaek was the best but he didn’t stay for long but he did go on to win a European Championship medal with Denmark (and Peter Schmeichel). The other one who on his day could do anything was John Gidman, who when he got the bit between his teeth went on great mazy runs, and he could defend. Others to consider, Dennis Irwin of course ...

Revolutionary 'Reversable' strip...

Advantages: Two different colour for away strip
Disadvantages: They release to many different kits

Manchester are in my opinion the class of football, they can not only produce brilliance but they can do this on a regular basis; consistency is what wins things in football. Manchester United brilliants and complete dominance is also displayed but the large amount of people that hate or despise them out of sheer spite and jealously. Their team isn’t doing as well, what else can we expect. Anyway, I have found that there are enough opinions ...

Manchester United do though, seem to change their kits very often; do that really change that much when they are replaced? Another Year, Another Title (Probably)

Advantages: New signings for the future, natural goalscorer, strong defense and top manager
Disadvantages: Loss of Beckham, tendacy to rely on Ruud and a habit of blowing it in Europe

Manchester United fans must be used to the feeling of dominating the English leagues by now. The facts speak for itself with a near perfect record of Premiership wins and several cups under the stewardship of Alex Ferguson, sorry Sir Alex Ferguson. So much so even the loss of David Beckham this summer to Real Madrid passed off with hardly any fuss over setbacks to their reign in England. With events at Chelsea and improving Liverpool plus old rivals ...
...new hero. Manchester United must be feeling pretty confident. Only Beckham has gone from what has been proved to be a winning formula. There is no real reason to shift from what has been so successful. Ruud van Nistelrooy has proved himself to be a top goal scorer and poacher, something they needed a few years ago. There is no reason why he will not be up among the top scorers this year again. The defence has been a winning combination since Laurent ...

...with I am not a Manchester United supporter, I'm a Spurs fan. However, I have the greatest respect for Man Utd for doing so well even though I don't show it in public. I have been meaning to write about them for a while so after they've won again seems as appropriate as ever. ...Sir Alex Ferguson, who is helped by Steve McLaren, manages them. The Team Goalkeepers They used to have Peter Schemichel and after he left, they had a mini-crisis with Taibi and a few others including Bosnich at his second United spell. Now, they have another goalie with the talent to fit into a championship squad - Fabien Barthez. He is the French international squad and may be a bit eccentric but is more than capable of stopping shots. The reserve ...

Here we go again

Advantages: They never give up!
Disadvantages: There is always pressure on them to perform!

I am not going to moan about how United are put down, because that is a personnal opinion, and is going to be said by all other fans no matter what is said for United! So i'll just review how I think United will do in the season coming up. Yes its not long untill the new season, and what an exciting one it is going to be! Pre-Season training starts in only a couple of days, and United are looking stronger than ever! It looks as if the Reining champions ...

Here are some reasons why United will do well next season: - New signing Ruud Van Nistelrooy will add extra spice up front for United, as getting in the team will be even more competative. With a new signing like Ruud Joining the club, it will make sure the likes of Andy Cole, Ole Solksjaer and Dwight Yorke all perform at their best, or lose thier ...

Manchester United, still a cut above the rest.

Advantages: Excellent manager, great players, fantastic youth system. To top it all off they are the richest club in the world
Disadvantages: Manager is retiring soon, reluctant to break the bank on top players. Wage structure stops them from signing the best as well.

There has been much talk recently about Man. U being merely an average side. Roy Keane, the club captain seems to think certain players are not pulling their weight and that the team needs a bit of an overhaul. However seven league titles in nine years, is as David Beckham put it, ‘not the mark of a bad side’. As well as this when you look at the fact that Man. U have lost only four league games this year and have the meanest defence ...
...it is quite obvious that statistics show this team is way above average. The fact that United are so far ahead of every other team does not imply that this league is short of quality either. Remember that in the Champions League quarterfinal stage that there were three English teams present. Also Liverpool have made it all the way to the UEFA Cup Final beating amongst others, Barcelona and AS Roma. Sir Alex Ferguson himself calls this league ‘ ...

How Good

Advantages: Squad
Disadvantages: None

Man United are one of the best teams in Europe. They are 16 points clear of the premiership and look untouchable. With some of the great players they have you wouldn’t think they need to improve but I think if they want to compete with the likes of Real Madrid they most certainly need to. Man U really haven’t spent too much money over the last few years. Jaap Stam and Fabien Barthez are really the only big signings in the past few years. ...
...competed with the best in Europe. Alex Ferguson is leaving at the end of next year and there has been a lot of speculation over who will replace the Scotsman. Eric Cantona is a popular choice and there has been talks that Fabio Capello the Roma boss will take over. Alex Ferguson doesn’t spend a lot of money but when he does 99% of the time that player will be a good player for the red devils. The only time I can remember Ferguson buying a player ...

My Anniversary Piece...Why On Man Utd

Advantages: Good Team, Great Manager
Disadvantages: To Good Of A Team

...I hate the most - Manchester United. We all know that Manchester United have been the team of the nineties and have managed to pick up all but three of the Premiership titles, since its arrival. They came third last season, which has been their worst finish in the premiership ever! So why did this happen? Is their team not well enough equipped? Is the manager just plain shite? ha ha ha none of these are correct, so why did United fail. Manchester ...

Many teams wanted him, but the favourite to seal his signature were Man Utd. After several days of negotiations Leeds allowed United to discuss terms with Rio and that they did. After offering Rio a contract we couldn't refuse (£70,000 p/w!) Man Utd got their man for a staggering British ...
