Advantages Advantages Great gameplay, Nice sounds, Good control system

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Annoying catch-up clause

I have now owned Mario Kart 64 for about a month, in this time I have become quite addicted to this platform inspired racer. Its mixture of smooth gameplay and challenges keeps me (and my mates) coming back for more. ***Packaging*** Well mine was fairly bashed about, as I bought it pre-owned (more on that later). However even with a crispy new one the same problems still exist. The way in which the flaps get caught in the manual, and fold over the pages. You would have thought Nintendo would have changed their packaging by now, or maybe they are concentrating all resources on the upcoming ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun, easy to play, great multiplayer

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as good as Super Mario Kart, Kooper Trooper has been removed :(

When I first saw this game advertised on the TV I was tempted to buy an N64 just for it, the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES had been an extremely addictive game and one of the best games I had ever played. I didn't buy an N64 though and instead waited a while and played the game on someone elses console. --What is it?-- Mario Kart 64 is a remake of Super Mario Kart for the SNES, it tries to improve just about everything about the game from the graphics to the weapons to the playability but ends up making a number of things worse instead. The idea of the game is that you select a Mario ... more

Advantages Advantages Great fun when played with friends.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Computer players tend to catch up at unrealistic speeds.

Super Mario Kart was a game first released way back on the SNES. It's popularity back then was one reason that the SNES did so well. However, since then Nintendo have lost some of the stranglehold that they had on the console game market due to the playstation, better PC's, and so forth. Therefore it was no big surprise when they decided to re-release Super Mario Kart on the ailing N64 console. At the time this game cost around the £40 mark, however, due to the sad demise of the N64 system, you can now pick up a pre-owned copy of this game for a couple of pounds in computer shops, expecially ... more

Nintendo’s little mascot is back to try and re-create the huge success that it predecessor Super Mario Kart, on the Snes, provided. Hyped up with super smooth graphics, sound effects and Grand Prix tracks, this game somewhat succeeded at its grab for glory. Those out there that remember the golden oldie that was Super Mario Kart (SMK) would not disappointed with the modern version. The original SMK offered something nothing seen before. All racing games before it that had enjoyed minor success were ‘serious’ racing games. But SMK offered the ‘fun’ aspect to an ... more

Advantages Advantages Great all the time, especially with three of your mates! Cool tracks, graphics, characters and modes. The graphics, sound, lifespan and gamepley are all fantastic. What a laugh!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very very very slight pop-up

How the hell can the prospect of eight wacky characters, driving crappy little go-carts round poxy courses cause so much hysteria? Well it does, and it's great! I'll dive straight in by saying if you haven't heard of Mario Kart on the SNES or Mario Kart 64 on the N64, then go back to that stone you somehow crawled out from under! If you have, then the differences between the two is that Mario Kart 64 is bigger, better and an overall cooler game. The N64 version now costs about £30, depending on where you buy it. Mario Kart 64 is one of those games that you want to slag off because it's so good ... more

Since his birth in 1981, Mario, the famous short plumber (previously a carpenter) has starred in over seventy Nintendo games, appeared on several different formats and encountered over three hundred enemies. Impressively, he has featured in games of various genres, ranging from golf and tennis numbers to cute little platformers. Another of these entertaining and crazy games is Mario Kart 64, the wacky driver for the N64. Along to play with and against Mario are seven of his best pals, Luigi, Toad, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario and Bowser. Each of the racers sport various strengths and ... more

Advantages Advantages The graphics, the gameplay, the addictiveness!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Only 8 characters

Everyone in the Nintendo camp and beyond will agree that Super Mario Kart on the SNES was an all-time classic. No disputes there then. So when Nintendo announced the sequel to the game on the N64, gamers were gasping for more of the same. It had a lot to live up to. Did it live up to expectations? Come on this is Nintendo we're talking about! Of course it did. The general premise for the game remains mostly unchanged from it's SNES predecessor, race around 3 laps (it used to be 5) of the track and attempt to come in the best position possible - ideally 1st place. The game itself has a few ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages CPU Opponents catch up easy, if your ahead you get bad powerups

Mario kart is a battle/racing game made by nintendo for the n64 back in 1997. They originally released it on the snes so when i saw the n64 version in my shop i had to buy it. Mario kart has several game modes including Tournament cup, Time trial and multiplayer which are all very very playable and addictive no matter how many times you play. The main single player feature is the cup. Here you can select different CC races out of 50,100 and 150 (the higher the cc the harder and faster the race will be). As you progress through the game and get a bronze, silver or gold cup you advance to ... more

Mario Kart 64 was my first game and it was a decent first purchase. This animated car racing game is a perfect starter for young gamers. The object of the one player game is to complete one of four cups with four races in each. To move on to the next level, you have to come in the top four of the 8 racers in the race you are doing. This is the main part of the game. The other option you can go on is time trials where you can pick a character and go on a level of your choice to try and gain your own personal best. There are 4 levels of difficulty on the main game. They are 50cc, 100cc, 150cc ... more

Advantages Advantages Great multiplayer, graphics and the usual cool mario tunes.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Computer cheats like hell

What a life it must be to be Mario, you get to have plenty of parties and drive little go-karts throwing shells at people. Lets just hope Mario doesn’t have too much to drink at one of his parties and go for a spin, eh? Unless you either weren’t born yet or didn’t pay attention a few years back there was a little game released called Mario Kart. This game just happened to be one of the best games on the SNES due to the excellent game play and the brilliance of the game as a whole. As with all Nintendo games the characters are instantly recognisable from previous games and ... more
