Advantages: Nearly everything is ready-prepared. Disadvantages: Nearly everything is ready-prepared, transported by air and expensive.
...pet shop is a new Marks and Spencer's Foodhall and, joy of joys, I had £20 of M&S vouchers which I thought would minimise the damage that I was bound to do to my credit card. Peter was coming along to heft the sacks of dog food, so I reckoned I'd be spending a fortune.
I should have been warned when I saw that there were piles of baskets at the door, but I had to go hunting for a trolley. They obviously weren't expecting me to buy a great deal. ... ...majority of sellers of vegetables Marks & Spencer fall into the trap of believing that they must be clean. Most root vegetables deteriorate when they meet the light and a little dirt is good protection. These vegetables were aggressively clean and more expensive than I would expect to find in what is, after all, basically a supermarket.
I was impressed by the encouragement given to people to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. ...

...I looked, an opinion on Marks & Spencer Food to Go. Food to Go is the new name for its sandwiches and general snacks – the ones that workers buy for lunch.
If you’ve ever entered a Marks & Spencer store at around 1pm on Monday lunchtime, you will see hundreds of people wearing smart suits all crowding round one particular part of the store. That part, of course, is the Marks & Spencer Sandwich Store.. bliss!
Competitors..
Other stores, ... ...but are failing. You see, Marks & Spencer is the king of two things – sandwiches and ladies underwear, and there’s nothing that will stop them.
Petrol stations are also trying to nab M&S’ business, but are miserably failing. The un-specialist food shops are trying to sell food, but there’s no point in even trying – or buying what they sell, because it’s often dry and tends to taste pretty nasty..
Rebranding..

...a HUGE fan of the Marks and Spencer foodhalls. I know I probably don’t fit in with the stereotypical image of an M&S shopper, but I absolutely adore their foodhalls. With all the talk in the media at the moment of Marks’ failing fortunes, I felt it was about time they were defended by one of their biggest fans. Being a Marks addict runs in the family – some of my earliest memories are of complaining when my Mum used to drag me round ... ...will tackle first, is that Marks are too expensive if compared to a normal supermarket. To be honest, price isn’t always a major consideration for me (and you’re probably going to want to hit me now) because my parents gave me my own M&S chargecard on their account when I turned 18. However, I don’t want to take advantage of their generosity, so I do still try to shop sensibly.
Other reviews have complained that the price of Marks’ ...

So our Marks who art with Spencer's aren’t doing so well these days for one reason or another, we shop there every week (in Shrewsbury), in the food hall that is, the rest of the shop we don’t bother so much with, but in the food hall they do have quality foods, some great deals, some good vegetarian foods, and quite a variety.
I admit it, I love Marks and Spencer foods, it was my wife that used to go there for her food before we met ... ...may know I’m vegetarian, and Marks and Spencer do some really good vegetarian meals including, lasagnes, pasta bakes, ratatouille, a really nice vegetable curry and...... well so on and so fourth really. They also have vegetarian cheese (for those that may wonder, part of a calves stomach is used in ordinary cheese), as much as I’d like not to eat cheese and dairy products I just don’t want to (lets face it there’s nothing ...

...bit of an expert on Marks and Spencer foodhalls. It’s the nearest supermarket to my work, so convenient for lunchtime sandwiches, quick snacks and those evenings when you know there’s nothing in the fridge at home.
Marks and Spencer have had some image problems over the last few years, mostly to do with being a bit staid and boring, especially in the fashion department. However, there’s nothing dull about their foodhalls, especially if it’s convenience ... ...quality ready prepared meals, where the only cooking involved is removing the cardboard box and piercing the film with a fork before popping in the oven and putting your feet up for 20 minutes. There are a number of ready made ranges, from the usual Indian and Italian range to the more original Café Culture range which is a selection of dishes that you might find on the menu in your local brasserie, such as braised lamb shanks or Galician meatballs ...

...have your own opinion about Marks and Spencer in general, with some people still perceiving it to be a tad old fashioned and unimaginative. However, the same cannot be said about Marks and Spencer's food department. The reason I buy Marks and Spencers food is because of the taste and quality. I often pop into Marks and Spencers on the way home from work if I don't have much in the fridge and fancy a quick but tasty convenience meal. To be fair, I ... ...I can stop off at Marks for 10 minutes and manage to pick up a nice meal for tea, whereas if I went elsewhere, I just wouldn't find much that would appeal. My favourites which I would recommend include the Cumberland pie (which is nice and crispy on the top with a tasty mince and gravy filling), Chicken pie, Quiche and ...

I'm going to try something completely different - I am going to write this opinion whilst acually sampling this product for the first time. I am a self-confessed fan of M&S foodhall. They are not always the cheapest but the quality is generally pretty good (with a few exceptions).
I hate sandwiches for lunch as I find them boring so when in M&S this morning I happened upon their special offers section where I found this dish - Lemon and Ginger Chicken ... ...not bad for London and it sounds alright so lets try it.
After piercing the clear plastic film a few times it takes 4 mins in a microwave to heat up and belive me it is HOT!! The film is very hard to get off - in fact it is stuck so well in portions that it just tears across the pot. Added to the fact that it is still very hot it is not too easy to get into! I'm glad I had a serviette to hand as my fingers got quite wet!
It smells fantastic (although ...

I could not possibly rate Marks and Spencer foodhall high enough! To be honest, I don't make enough money to shop here all the time, so I get everyone I know to buy me M + S vouchers for everything - birthdays, my wedding, anniversaries, everything! Advantages: Very high quality, nice food Disadvantages: A little expensive!
Marks And Spencer Foodhalls stock some extremely high quality and rare products. I do most of my weekly shopping at Waitrose but leave out a few things which I know I can get at much better quality at Marks. For example, chicken is very expensive in Waitrose, and pretty poor. But I can get some top class chicken at low low prices in M&S, so it's worth the trip.
Their ready meals are very good. They always get the right amount of food for me, and ... ...and refurbishments are happening throughout Marks & Spencer's branches, so that's good news.
The staff are always very helpful and happy to assist you. I was in my local M&S recently when I couldn't find an item. I asked a member of staff if they had any more of the product, expecting the usual 'If there's none on the shelf we don't have it, which I usually get at Waitrose. Instead, the lady magically whisked out her mobile 'phone, pressed a few ...

...wrote a Ciao opinion about Marks & Spencer a few months ago I was quite scathing about the company. Fortunately most Ciao members agreed with me.
Not everything about Marks & Spencer is gloomy though. The Foodhall and Home Furnishings departments made more profit than last year and are booming.
I usually buy my frozen food from Iceland and groceries from Tesco. I rarely visit Marks & Spencer's Foodhall but the food quality is excellent.

The quality control of M & S food manufacture is excellent.
The following exemplifies this:
A factory inspector went to a peanut packing factory in Europe where peanuts are sold on to various supermarkets. He saw that the majority of peanuts packed were broken. Then he noticed a conveyor belt, which had whole unbroken peanuts on it. Inquiring about the conveyor belt he was told that those peanuts on the belt ...

...I eventually ventured into Marks and Spencer myself... was I turning into a fuddy duddy?
In reality, Marks and Spencer food is just better than everyone elses... try their cheddar, I guarantee that you won't regret it, nor will you go back to other supermarket brands.
The Chicken Tikka is creamy and mild, I just have never found another one that I liked anywhere. Try it with their garlic baguettes, a meal made in heaven.

Marks and Spencer food is much more expensive than leading supermarket rival brands, but it really is worth the difference. I am a poor student and have to travel 12 miles to my nearest store, but my advice is to select your favourite products, buy in bulk, pop them in the freezer and then serve them to your family in the next few weeks and pretend you've prepared them yourself! Marks and Spencer I will make an exception. I recommend swapping your local Tesco or Sainsburys and opting for the best. Okay so make sure you raid the piggybank, preferably someone else’s cause good food doesn’t come cheap, but my god is it worth it. I tried Marks and Spencer Food Halls over the past couple of years because I started working in the city centre and, this being Birmingham, we didn't actually have a supermarket in the city centre until very recently. So if you wanted groceries, it was pretty much M&S or nothing. I hadn't really tried M&S before and I'd heard it sold great food, so I decided to give it a go when I wanted to treat myself or have friends round.
I tried a fair selection ... ...tooth, their puddings and cakes. I tried the Italian and Indian selections of ready-meals and mainly fruit parts and tarts for puddings.
I always found the food to be perfectly good quality, but very expensive and to be honest I could never see why it was quite as expensive as it was. It was always nice enough, never let me down, but not nearly as special as I'd expected. The ready-meals were satisfactory, but not really very imspired- rather unadventurous ...

Marks and Spencer definatly has an image problem which it's not letting go of... Marks and Spencer, as we all know have been losing more and more profits over the last two years. Every few months they seem to announce that they have lost more, surly these well-paid managers know what's going wrong? Marks and Spencer managers need to take this point of view, child sales makes up a large ...

The following is a tale of what happened to me five years ago, and to this day I still shudder when I think about it.... I had always loved nectarines. Especially the ripe juicey Spanish nectarines that came in packs of four in M&S. I worked in the shop next door to M&S, and when I got my chargecard, I must have been their best friend. Every day I'd go and buy my lunch there, and also do my food shopping there - expensive but convenient. However, ... ...surprise. I ate one nectarine, and it was lovely. Sweet, ripe and juicy. Still hungry, I started on the second. I ate half of it, and then noticed a few black specks near the stone in the middle. A closer look didn't reveal very much, so, thinking it was a bit of dirt and not much to worry about, I took another bite... Then, the stone broke in half down the middle, and to my horror, more black specks appeared on the white dining table. Only this ...
