5 Stars It's MYmite Review with images 15/05/2009
    User recommends the product

    Advantages Advantages For me, everything

Disadvantages Disadvantages Erm; The simple fact it has a bad reputation

If someone said to me, what would be included in a list of things you couldn't live without it would have to be Marmite. I can't get enough of it! I'm not sure about 'bathing' in it, as the website suggests (erm, I'm sure this is meant to be hyperbole www.marmite.com) as it is RATHER thick and sticky (the 'rather' is definately litotes/understatement - I'll come to the description later. Let me have my rant about how good it is first). Marmite is a savoury spread popularised by the well known catch phrase' you wither love it or you hate it'. I think this is true of anyfood really but I suppose ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Quite nice tasting, quick and easy, handy, long lasting, nutritionally good

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit salty, makes your breath stink

--------Its lingering stench reaps Revenge until night's long end A dark side beckoning some To savour more Bewitched as one-------- (An extract from The Dark Side of Marmite I've written for Halloween) Marmite divides itself with those who fall either into the 'Hate It' or 'Love It' camp. Me? Call me sit-on-the-fence awkward but I can't put myself on either side. To say that I love Marmite stretches things too far. I don't hate it either. I fall somewhere in the middle - I Quite Like It. Not very catchy as a slogan and it throws that theory out the window. But still, you must admit clever ads ... more

5 Stars ...My Mate Review with images 21/07/2008
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Yumtastic, Cheap, Lasts a long time, Vegetarian friendly, Low calorie

Disadvantages Disadvantages Has a diverse reaction to it's flavour

Introduction: Marmite, the word that can send a pulse of pleasure through someone and a wave of loathing through another. Personally, I love the stuff, but opinions on this wonderful substance can be quite contrary to mine. It's hard to describe exactly what it is, it isn't a preserve, or a sauce, it's a condiment that you would have on toast, it's spreadable in that sense. Although I have known some people to drink it (by adding a blob into a mug an adding hot water), I think they have been getting confused with Bovril, you know, I love marmite, but I will happily admit that the thought of ... more

5 Stars I Love Marmite! Review with images 06/08/2012
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Great snack alternative if you like the taste.

Disadvantages Disadvantages horrible if you're don't like it.

To kick off this review of Marmite I would like to state that I am a 'lover' not a 'hater'. The advertisements for Marmite are famously known for their 'Love' or 'Hate' it themes, which makes Marmite rather unique just by the fact that it is a risky campaign to take on when you promote your product as being hated by half of its consumers. This has famously become known as 'The Marmite Effect' or reaction. Thankfully it is one of the English products that are sold in most Dutch supermarkets and I can get it quite easily, albeit at a higher price than it would be in England. Marmite is a savoury ... more

Advantages Advantages Its Delicious & Spreadable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ask anyone who hates it

I was eating my breakfast the other morning when I though I haven't had any ideas of what to write an op on lately and I thought Marmite - I love it!, why not? so sure enough I am writing my opinion now, but I am completely surprised that 26 other people have already beaten me to this - A very popular subject I guess! Marmite you may ask what is it? (I am pretty sure everyone in the UK, even most of the world, has heard of Marmite, but the question begins have they tried it? Right, Marmite is a brown yeast extract spread suitable for vegetarians. It comes in a 250g or 500g jar and is widely ... more

Advantages Advantages It can (possibly) be used to certain sexual benefits

Disadvantages Disadvantages It tastes unutterably yucky.

Life, you might have figured out by now, is full of things that you love, and things that you hate. I love, for example, Jennifer Aniston. I think the Ferrari 612 Scagliatti is wonderful (I'll even admit to being a closet fan of the Citroen C6) and I love Americans, despite their tendency to believe they have the right to rule the world and cannot grasp the concept of irony. I love drinking beer and enjoying sunshiny days in the park and thick slopes of snow on Alpine hillsides. By contrast, I'm not that keen on Cherie Blair, I think the Bugatti EB 110 was styled by a six-year-old and I truly ... more

Advantages Advantages Silly qustion to ask a Marmite junkie

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Addictive

Addictions take many varied forms and if we were to place them all on a sliding scale, it would be found that somewhere between opium and crack cocaine, is a product in a small (2inches high) bulb-shaped glass jar with a distinctive yellow lid. Unlike those who smoke, inject or snort their way through life, addicts of this product merely spread, very thinly, a small amount onto a slice of toast, and can be seen nibbling with half closed eyes, their “fix”. I freely admit to being an addict and am not looking for any cure whatsoever. It can cost anything from 60p for a tiny jar to £3.50 for a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great nutritional value.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be hard to purchase abroad!

Marmite is the ‘Growing up spread you never grow out of’ or so the advertisers would have you believe. In my experience, it is a food you either ‘love or hate’. I only know one person who is not really bothered by the flavour and in fact, he chooses not to eat it. Even more for me! I have always loved it since I was a small child. I loved the thick, brown in colour and viscous in consistency. The best way to eat Marmite is dipping a finger in the jar and then licking the spread off the hands. The salty taste of burnt yeast is indescribable, but if anyone had told me as a child that it was good ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages A Nutritious and tasty Vegetarian Snack.

Disadvantages Disadvantages High Salt Content - and beware of getting too much on your knife!

Like many of our best food products, Marmite has been around for years. I know of few people who don't have an opinion of it one way or the other. An advertising campaign a couple of years ago focused on the idea that many people hate this product! The brand is so strong (in more ways than one, perhaps) that it can get away with advertisements showing in no uncertain terms that this is a product that is certainly NOT everybody's cup of tea. I doubt if it made much difference in the scheme of things. Marmite is one of those things which you either buy or you don't. As a child, Marmite was one ... more
