Disadvantages Disadvantages The above can happpen too frequently; rude subcontractors

WHO ARE THEY? ------------------------- I know of Mastercare's range of purchase insurance products through purchases I have made in PC World and Currys. I currently have "policies" on my PC, washing machine, dishwasher and replacement tumbledryer. Effectively Mastercare cover you for any repairs that need to be performed on your appliance including normal parts and call out fees. Simple stuff like fuses and plugs aren't covered but they're hardly bank-breaking and you should check that it's not either of these two causing you problems before you call out Mastercare. Their cover ranges 1 to 5 ... more

MASTERCARE THE BEGINNING When I bought a (very) expensive PC from PC World I took out an insurance policy from Mastercare, as I was worried it would break. I paid about £400 for a 5 year cover which wasnt bad. THE 1ST PROBLEM Some time later I decided I needed the internet so i got a cd and tried to set it up. My modem wasnt working! I phoned Mastercare and the got it working over the phone. I then had a good view of mastercare and thought my money was well spent....BOY I WAS WRONG!!!! THE 2ND PROBLEM This was a bit more serious! About 4 1/2 years later my computer smelled of TCP and was ... more

Back in July 2003 I reported a fault on PC to Mastercare (part of the Dixons Group) for a fault on my PC which I had purchased 2 years earlier from PC World in West Thurrock. The fault was in fact the whole PC itself had no power supply. We had tried the obvious to get power to it from switching cable to changing fuses but still nothing! It was at this point I remembered taking out a 5 year Coverplan with Mastercare, which in effect should cover my PC for 5 years for any faults which I had not caused. I found the paperwork for the Coverplan and promptly called PCServiceCall. I was able to do ... more

Advantages Advantages None that I can think of!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, Botched up jobs, little knowledge of computer systems, avoid jobs as far as possible

I purchased a notebook computer from PC world around two years ago. It was a patriot computer (different story, but never get one of these, no support and difficult to get drivers) and top of the range at that time. Because I was getting it as a tool for university study, my parents talked me into purchasing the (VERY) expensive 5 year warranty for not much less than £500 to protect the computer right through my studies. The company covers most entertainment products and is used by Dixons, Comet, Currys and PC World to mame (lol) but a few. I was taken by the ease of application for this ... more

Advantages Advantages None. Maybe saving $50 callouts?

Disadvantages Disadvantages Terrible service and not worth the money

Another disgruntled customer. I am dismayed by how bad the service is provided by Mastercare... Very recently I had problems with my widescreen TV. My wife contacted Mastercare on the 24 hour hotline only to have someone at the other end of the phone to say that the "24 hour home service" would take two or three days. Accepting this was no option as we had paid for the service and needed the TV repaired. The TV was duely inspected by an engineer three days later. (Not bad you think!) It was pronounced faulty and nothing that the engineer could fix on site. The engineer could not remove the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Far too few.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Far too many.

It’s been three months since I’ve had full and permanent use of a laptop. It was taken from me back in July and as November knocks on the door under the pretence of trick-or-treaters, I find myself thinking a bit deeper about the situation. Last time I was able to actually sit down and write something properly was when it was about 30°C. I’m writing this at 18.49 and it’s pitch black out there. Back when I had the old laptop, the sun would be shining through the window into my face. I’ve had a headache for about three weeks now and I went to the doctor’s last week. I had a locum because my ... more

Advantages Advantages Mastercare of Dixons is poor service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Service is poor

What started as buying a digital TV last September 2002,to enjoy the Christmas season has turned into a a difficult time! I discovered a fault in the TV which was taken for repair on October13-02 with a promise that it will not take more than 10 days, but I discovered that my TV has been caught in a huge spider web of bureaucratic system where the staff play with customers a cat and mouse game with tragic consequences. I was left without TV for 6 month I was denied the right to complain directly to the Chief Executive about my case which proof beyond doubt that I am a victim of Dixons ... more

Advantages Advantages In the short term, none. In the long term. delays outlay on appliances

Disadvantages Disadvantages If you don't like it, too bad - there ain't nobody else any different

Having been around the block once or twice, I think I can safely say that naiveté is something that was knocked out of me several decades ago. So when I take out an extended warranty I know that I am paying a faceless corporation the privilege of using my money to make them more money on the offchance that if something happens to the appliance I have insured I have some peace of mind it will be repaired promptly. Mastercare, the goldmine that Dixons, Currys and Comet seem to own, offer this type of service. I use the term "service" although for the life of me I can't see why, as that doesn't ... more

Advantages Advantages We got to play a lot me board games!

Disadvantages Disadvantages They could not care less!

Aplogies....this is a long one!!! In Feburary 2001 we bought a colour TV from Currys along with a 5 year Mastercare Plan. It worked and we were happy with it and felt safe in the knowledge that for the next 5 years we would not have the expense of replacing it . We had no problems with it untill August last year. When one day my son and I were watching it one sunday evening and the picture shifted to one side and then made a "popping" noise and the picture and everything went completely. I thought no problem and went and got the paperwork which stated that it was a 24 hour helpline 7 days a ... more

    Advantages Advantages NONE

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor service, No advice, No customer service skills, Sales Person's not trained to acceptable standard

I bought a new computer from pc world on 01/10/99 and was offered the coverplan from MasterCare only £395.00 for a £1299.00 pc and was told by the assistant that the policy would cover the computer, monitor, printer and keyboard, so I took out the policy. In February 2001 the keyboard picked up a fault and I called MasterCare to have it replaced, which they did and very quickly I was impressed. They told me to dispose of the other one and keep the replacement which I did. In April the monitor started to flicker and it was making me feel quite ill using the pc so I called them and booked the ... more
