From suits to saucepans

Advantages: Affordable clothing and homeware
Disadvantages: Matalan card and long queues at busy times

...it in Matalan. Matalan is a department store selling a range of affordable clothing and houshold items .The majority of Matalan stores are based in out of town locations. John Hargreaves who founded Matalan based it on a model that was successful in America. He launched the first Matalan store in Preston in 1985. Since then hundreds of stores have been opened in the UK. Most Matalan stores are large and spacious with good sized car parks. More recently ...
...Personally I have found Matalan to be a great place to shop for clothes and homeware and would be 'lost' without it. Matalan offers an extensive range of very good value and competitively priced products. Quality wise you do have to be a little 'discerning' as it does vary... Each store is typically divided into four departments, Women's, Men's, Children's and Homeware. **Women's Wear** Whatever your age you can find something to wear at Matalan ...

...men about this wonderful store. Matalan have plenty to offer the male shopper. They are not just limited to ladies and children's clothing but mens too; alongside household goods toys and games. It is certainly a shop I regularly visit despite having to travel 20 miles to get to my nearest one. Matalan used to be available to members only and offered its wares at near trade prices. Since their early days they now open their doors to all and sundry ...
...have opened up a whole new shopping experience to all. Clothing is the main product which they stock, gents' ladies and children's. Here you will find both well known brands and lesser known makes. My experience has always been to find the clothing of good if not exceptional quality, hard wearing, fashionable and best of all very reasonably priced. You can expect to make between 20 and 50 % savings over normal retail outlets and so provides great ...

Everything goes CHEAP

Advantages: cheap products and a wide range
Disadvantages: some are cheap and not so cheerful

Matalan only used to allow certain members of the public to become official Matalan members but now everybody can join. It costs a £1 join (for life) and is currently the fastest growing fashion retailer in the UK with over 100 stores nationwide. The premise of Matalan is that they buy directly from the manufacturer and therefore keep their costs to a minimum. The benfit to the customer is that these lower costs are passed on and prices are hardly ...
...for men, women and children. Matalan don't sell just the cheapest brands they could find, they also sell certain designer brands like CK, Lee Copper and Wrangler to name just a few. The second section is a household section offering a diverse range in rugs, mirrors, cutlery, crockery and the like. In store customer service or at least on the very few times i have had to ask a member of staff for help they have always been very friendly and helpful. ...

The best retail performer in the FTSE

Advantages: Good quality and affordable clothing
Disadvantages: No store near where I live

...came across the name of Matalan during a TV discussion about the demise of Marks and Spencer. Apparently the shopping habits of shoppers have changed drastically over the past five years. In the past shoppers would pay over the odds for quality clothing from M & S etc. Now they would rather substantially pay less for inferior quality goods. The company most benefiting from this new shopping trend is the discount retailer Matalan. Over the past ...
...Unfortunately there is no Matalan store near where I live. So I had to rely on media reports on its upward progress. In May 2000 I visited my parents in Hull. One day we went to buy some food from Asda at a local retail park. In close proximity to Asda was a Matalan store. I managed to persuade my parents to park near the store. Car parking is free. The first thing to hit you on entering the store is the vast area of floor space. Wheelchair shoppers ...

Something for all the family!

Advantages: Cheap prices, good quallity, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Popular sizes are sold quickly

...remember when I first discovered Matalan but I am very glad I did. I have been brought up not to waste money and never spend too much on clothes and shoes. So Matalan and I have a good relationship together in the way that I can get more for my money. The Store ======= Matalan are a very large company and has many outlets across the UK so there is bound to be one near you somewhere. The one I visit is a 20 minute drive away and is based in a large ...
...away a week. At Matalan they have plenty of socks to choose from but since I am always buying him socks I can get 10 pairs of socks for £3. That's is not a typo, that's three pounds for ten pairs of socks, which works out to a nice 30p per pair or 15p a sock. Wouldn't it be great to buy them individually? As he always gets a hole in one but not the other but luckily since I stick to white socks he can mix and match with a different set. Thank goodness ...

Onto a winner

Advantages: Good quality clothes at a good price
Disadvantages: Shopping environment isn't as great as high-street stores, but that's to be expected considering the low prices they ask.

Matalan is a great shop which deals mainly in clothing. I'm sure that if they applied their award-winning principles to a more expansive range of goods, they would do brilliantly - and I, as a customer, would be better off as well. I don't really know the secret of how Matalan is able to offer such great low prices on clothes, but somehow they manage to do so. There is no sacrifice in quality of the clothes; in fact, I have a selection of high quality ...
...children's range as well, so Matalan is a good choice to buy those "cool" shirts that would otherwise break your bank. There's not only clothing - a section of Matalan is dedicated to household items as well, all good quality and all relatively inexpensive. Since Matalan offers such great value for money, there are undoubtedly always many other like-minded individuals like myself on the lookout for bargains. When I first went to my local Matalan ...

You pays ye' money ye' takes ye' choice

Advantages: Cheap, cheap, cheap
Disadvantages: Cheap, messy, hot

I have been a Matalan member for many years now and feel qualified to write an opinion on my many experiences. So, why shop at Matalan? Answer ... "It's cheap!" VALUE FOR MONEY This is the only reason anybody ever crosses the Matalan threshold. Promises of designer labels at budget prices. My 'designer' Matalan clothes are mainly that well known brand much favoured by pop stars, policticians and top sport superstars, 'Zantos'. You do get value ...
...My other big hit on Matalan is around Christmas time. It's great for filling the kids stockings with small gifts at a fair price. QUALITY Here in lies the rub! You really do get what you pay for. With very few exceptions, my Matalan clothing has not kept shape and colour through washing in the same way other top high street brands might. As reported above, small niggles of cheap design almost invariably rear their heads almost as soon as you start ...

Matalan is better than you would expect

Advantages: Good Value, wide range of stock, good customer service
Disadvantages: Some clothes are sized wrongly, some stock isn't all that good

I have been shopping at Matalan for two or three years and have no complaints at all. OK, they are not Burtons or River Island, but they do have some good clothes and household accessories is stock. I buy all my jeans, shirts and trousers from here. I get my jeans for about £20, which isn't bad. You can also pick up decent cotton shirts for as little as £10 too. Matalan's stock tends to be generally wither seconds or end-of-line stock. Rarely do ...
...so that's no problem. Matalan is a members only store, for a small fee you get a membership card that you must present when you make a purchase. With this membership you also receive a seasonal magazine from them, updating you on all their new products and special offers. I like this because their nearest store is about 15 miles away and I do like to know what stock they have in before I go (as there stock is always changing). If you aren't too ...

Advantages: Good prices
Disadvantages: Hateful

...burning desire for MORE information, Matalan have over 150 stores nation-wide and is the 5th biggest selling retailer. It was founded by John Hargreaves, whose first Matalan store was in Preston. With an average of 30,000 square feet in every store, Matalan try to cater for all. We have makes such as Falmer here, and Lee Cooper. Although the range is great, I dislike the place because of the queues and the lack of staff. More info can be found ...

...Disadvantages: You need your Matalan card Matalan ~~~~~~ Womens department ~~ I would highly recommened matalan for womens clothes as they seem to have a high range of great quality clothes for bargain prices. I picked up a lurvly red jacket in there last week reduced from £20 to just £5, but I would have definatly paid the £20 for it :o) They have clothes for older women like my nans age, such as skirts and pretty but not overly trendy tops. ...quite likes the clothes in matalan and will often come away with a few nice tops. Like the womens sections there's clothes sutible for all ages, and they do a fab range of winter coats for men. The sizes like the womens are really good. They do PJ's and underwear for men too and it's all reasonably priced. They do have a footwear range for men but I haven't liked any I have seen but that's my opinion :o) Childrens department ~~~~~ This is great they ...

You'll Spend Less at Matalan

Advantages: Cheap, well laid out merchandise, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Security Guards

...and I have been regular Matalan shoppers for at least 3 years now. Although there isn't a store in our vicinity, because their clothes and housewares are so cheap, it is worth the journey to their Edinburgh store. It is beyond me how certain well-known stores can get away with charging their customers as much when Matalan sell just as good if not better quality clothing for a fraction of the price. I was invited to a wedding and my mum and I went ...
...there, I would see what Matalan had. When we went to Matalan, we were pleasantly surprised to see that they had a 50% sale on certain goods. So mum went on her annual trail around the womans department, and thought that I'd not see her for at least 3 hours. So I went to the gents dept. Bearing in mind what I saw in Burton, I was on the prowl. Boy oh boy, was I in for a surprise. After looking about for about half an hour, I picked up a white Ben ...

Some excellent buys

Advantages: Good prices
Disadvantages: Can be a bit hit and miss

Matalan is the sort of shop where you would never have the same shopping experience twice! Sometimes I have been in and found absolutely nothing but rubbish and other times I have come out with all sorts of goodies. They have a big range of clothes for men, women and children at very affordable prices. As I say there is sometimes quite a bit of tat which needs to be sorted through but if you've got the patience then it is well worth the effort. ...

The men's section is good with a variety of jeans and a lot of different shirts from the very cheap to designer labels at realistic prices. There is also a household section which stocks everything from towels to picnic hampers and ...

Excellent Value for money

Advantages: Great value, Lots of stuff, Helpful staff
Disadvantages: maybe a few more fashionable brands would improve it further

I love matalan (the name actually originated from the joint founders "Matt and Alan") well thats enough of the useless trivia LOL. Anyway as I was saying Matalan is a great shop, with lots of great clothes, household equipment, etc.. and it is very very cheap. I always go there to get my Christmas gifts, along with Birthday gifts, etc, as they have a superb range of things. matalan actually used to be like a wholesalers where you had to have a ...

...two shirts and ties in Matalan yesterday for £9.99 and they are excellent material, they will pass for a shirt and ties from Next etc. The kids clothes are also very good although I find that they do not have such a range for children as they do for adults.
