I'M CHALLENGING THAT WORD MY INTRODUCTION TO SCRABBLE I actually have three types of the board game Scrabble in my home. These are Junior Scrabble, Original Scrabble and the ‘real’ original which has the wooden tile boards. I thought I would review the Original which is the latest one that I purchased. This is the one with the green board as opposed to the ‘old’ original which has lighter colours on the board. I grew up playing board games mainly with my mother and brother and sometimes with cousins. In our home we owned many, such as Monopoly, Cluedo, Ludo and for Christmas we always received ... more

Every one every where must have heard about, played, or, like me, owned a certain word game called Scrabble, considering that the game of scrabble has been around since the early 1930’s, although way back then it wasn’t played on a board. Firstly, a bit of history about the game, which I found about on line… Scrabble was first thought of back in the early 1930’s by a Mr Butts, (apparently), who played with himself for nearly 20 years,(stop it….!!!) before deciding to manufacture the game for the general population to enjoy. To this date Scrabble is one of, if not the most popular word game ... more

Advantages Advantages A great game for all the family, educational, not expensive

Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me I love it!

When mom and dad were alive we often used to play Scrabble. I had Junior Scrabble as a child and then adult Scrabble and Travel Scrabble when I was older. The version that I am talking about today is Scrabble Original which is the standard adult version. The price I have just taken a look on the Internet and found that it is currently available at Tesco Direct at a cost of £14.77. What do you get for your money? In the box you will find the game board, which folds double to fit in the box, 100 cream coloured tiles each with a black letter on it, four racks on which to stand the letters and a ... more

I may not technically be reviewing the original Scrabble as that was one made in 1948. However I am reviewing the scrabble that I own it is called Scrabble original, I have owned my game since the 1980’s. In 1931 a man called Alfred Butts developed a game called Lexico this he developed over the years and eventually in 1938 it had changed into a game he called Criss-Crosswords. Sadly for him he had little success marketing it. In 1948 James Brunot bought the manufacturing rights and paid Butts royalty on each game he sold. The game changes slightly and was renamed Scrabble. Since 1955 this ... more

Scrabble is one of those games that most families are familiar with. It’s a nice fun bring the family together type game that is actually very good for your vocabulary and spelling also (2 things I’ve never been great at myself). The game comes boxed in a traditional styled green box with the game bored. This is a square with lots of spaces for the letter tiles you also get to be placed. The object of the game is to draw 7 letter tiles and using the little stands provided, work out what words you can make, these are then placed on the board and you receive a score. This score can be lifted by ... more

    Advantages Advantages fantastic game

Disadvantages Disadvantages tiles can fall off board

My name is wigglylittleworm and I am a scrabble addict. Thanks to the wonderful Facebook I can get a fix of my beloved game every day but I do still love to sit around a table and play the good old fashioned way when I can find opponents, a get together is planned with my cousins for the Xmas holidays where we eat, drink and play Scrabble for hours! I’m sure most of you know what Scrabble is, a word game for 2 to 4 players where you build words on a board measuring 15 by 15 squares. The 100 tiles are marked with the letters of the alphabet according to the frequency which they occur in the ... more

    Advantages Advantages A good classic

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can get dull

Overview I just have the basic, classic and best version of Scrabble. The game is an old family favourite and I'm certain everyone has heard of it already, just in case they haven't allow me to tell you about the game and why I love it so much. How to set up You get a board in the box which has grid squares all over it, each grid square is essentially one space on the board. Each player gets a tile holder and 7 tiles to start the game off. A mixture of vowels and consonants are on each tile and the aim of the game is to make a word with the letters you have. Each letter is worth a different ... more

I am a huge fan of Scrabble and enjoy playing it with my friends. It is a classic game which has been in our family for many years. There are a few variations on this game that you can get such as a junior version which is a great idea to get children interested in words. This game is played on a board. The board has tiles drawn on it, some are blank but others are the special squares which give you extra points. The aim of the game is to get as many points as you can by making the most of the letters you have and the tiles available on the board. Each member has seven letters which are on ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Addictive!

Scrabble - a good old-fashioned word game that still appeals across the generations. In our family we like to make some of our own rules up. We don't like the Official Scrabble Word Dictionary. How is 'Ba', for example, acceptable and what does it mean? We have a copy but it hardly ever sees the light of day. We allow the use of the English dictionary if the word looked up is shared with the other playes and the meaning read out so that we all learn from it. Rules in 2010 have declared proper nouns are allowed - absolutely not allowed in our family. It's unbelievable that I can place down my ... more

My parents were having a clear out at home a few months back and found their game of scrabble. I’d loved this game for years and since they don’t really get time to play it, I took it off their hands. I have played this a few times since acquiring it recently and I still love the game as much now as I did all those years ago. This game isn’t generally about fun (though it can be depending on what words you come up with!), it is a game of strategy and skill. I’m sure there isn’t anybody who doesn’t know the game Scrabble, but just in case there are people out there who have never played the ... more
