~ What does Max Factor promise? ~
~ High Volume and definition mascara.
~ Features the new iFX brush which enables every lash to be evenly coated and defined from root to tip.
~ Specifically designed to deliver amazing volume and smoothness.
~ Creates 400% more volume.

~ Gives sleek and smooth lashes.

Well ... ...by the promised percentage by Max Factor.
As for the 'iFX' brush, I really can't see a huge difference between this brush compared to the vast number of mascaras that I have used over the years. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I didn't apply it as directed by Max Factor:
'Stroke downwards on upper lashes then sweep from base to tip.'
I can't use it downwards on the upper lashes, have to use it from the base to the tip - perhaps that's where ...

Advantages: intense colour, volume, no clumping Disadvantages: none
Max Factor mascaras are the best around in my opinion. I started off using their Classis Stretch mascara a few years ago, then moved on to Lash Lift, but then they brought out Max Factor Masterpiece. I was in love. I still am. It's by far the best mascara I have ever tried, and it seems that I wasn't the only one with that opinion. Even so, when they brought out Max Factor Masterpiece Max, I was reluctant to try it. I find many brands ride on the back of the success of one product, and use it's names to promote new ones. Take Boots No.7's protect and perfect for example. After the huge success of that product, they are now bringing out countless others, all with 'Protect and Perfect' stuck on the front ...

I like my Max Factor make up but as you are probably aware it is quite pricey! £10 plus for a foundation, £8 plus for a mascara etc, so I was pleased when I got this mascara for £5 on special offer at Asda! But prices go up to around £9. It is the featured mascara for Milan fashion week so a good ad to start!!

The product - as stylish as ever Max Factor presents this mascara in a Black tube with gold trim, yes, a very classy look for a very classy item! The item is available in waterproof and non waterproof in brown, black and brown-black. The screw top is easy to reveal the brush. Although you can not ...

Advantages: Great for dramatic eyes Disadvantages: Can clump
I'm a huge fan of Max Factor products and have tried almost all of them I think! I find most of their range to be very high quality and as I use alot of different make up I like that theirs doesn't seem to deteriorate after a couple of months. Which means I can continue wearing a different look every day!
I bought this mascara when it first came out in the uk, it cost me £6.99 on special offer, but I believe it retails at £8.99 in most stores. If ... ...defines and lengthens lashes, Masterpiece Max carries on the good name but it also boosts lashes and makes them appear fuller, thicker and stand out alot more.
This is what I would call a night time mascara. I never use this during the day as it's a little heavy in my opinion for the fresh natural look I prefer for everyday. However, on the rare occasion I do leave my house under the cover of darkness I like to jazz up my make up and finish off ...

...causes the problem. The Masterpiece MAX Mascara has an almost contoured brush to replicate the natural shape of the human eye, whereas most others seem to be completely straight with those spiralled bristles from top to bottom. The result being your eyelashes actually sticking together rather than seperating as they naturally should, and the overall visual result is more of a clump of lashes than anything actually defining about the eye. Those being ... ...fact that even though Masterpiece Max doesn't state that it is waterproof on the bottle, it actually can withstand the brute force of driving rain on my way home from work. Many's the time I used to get on the bus to bewildered stares from old women wondering if I'd just been on an assault course with the British Army! Masterpiece Max is also very delicately perfumed. I know it doesn't matter much because you can't smell it once it's dry but whatever ...

...not so compared to other Max Factor products, so expected a quality justified by the price. I've used several other mascaras in the past - Revlon Lash Lights, Sephora's own brand, No 7, L'Oreal etc, but they did nothing other than slightly separate (and gunk up) my lashes. The mascara itself has a light texture, doesn't clog up your eyes, and dries quickly, which is useful if you have lighter-shaded lashes and need to apply multiple coats. If you're ... ...piece of non-lint tissue. I also suggest using an eyelash comb to feather out and evenly spread out the lashes before piling it on so you get maximum separation, otherwise you'll end up looking like a drag queen (and not in the good way). If you can, buy a two-sided magnified mirror so the application is more accurate.
Given that my eyelashes are freakishly long already, I tend to sweep them slightly to the side so it frames my eyes, instead of ...

I absolutely loved the original Max Factor Masterpiece - the one that was used in Memoirs of a Geisha. I received it as a stocking filler from my Auntie and Uncle Christmas 2006 and, I have to say, it became one of my very few Holy Grail mascaras.

Following my success with the original Masterpiece, I thought "this will definitely be ... ...original doesn't clump, I feel Max Factor may have made this second formulation a little too thick in their attempt of achieving thick, full and voluminous lashes.
Furthermore, this mascara tends to make my lashes a little straight and stiff - whilst the original MP curled them. I know I keep mentioning the normal Masterpiece, but it's good for comparison purposes, I believe.

Max Factor Masterpiece MAX Mascara was launched following the huge succes of the Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara.
The "MAX" was supposed to make eyes look even more dramatic, with fuller volume, thickness and length.
Priced at £9.99, it is £1 more expensive than the original Masterpiece Mascara.
Is it worth it?
I'm personally really impressed by this mascara. The brush is made of rubber-spikey things, which means that the mascara doesn't clump ... ...my normal Lancome mascara. This Max Factor Mascara gives me more lashes because of this!
This mascara is really easy to apply because of the brush. The rubber spikes allow the mascara to glide on to your eyelashes without clumps. Applying 2 or more coats does not give your lashes that horrible "spider lashes" effect - but simply makes your lashes look more defined and fuller.
The packaging of the mascara is quite simple - in black casing, it looks ...

By using an eyelash curler and then the mascara, my lashes look longer and fuller. Advantages: More Volume and Lenthening than the original Masterpiece mascara! Disadvantages: Dries up quickly, pricey
After trying Max Factors first Masterpiece mascara and left feeling disappointed you would have thought that the latest Masterpiece mascara would be a definite NO from me!
However, after seeing the advert, and being told that this one would give me 400x the result of its first masterpiece mascara, I decided to give it a go!!

Okay, so maybe not 400x the amount, but hey! Its an advert, there's bound to be some exageration in there somewhere eh!? After I seen the advert for around the 1000th time I thought I'd give it a go - my mascara was running out and it wasn't exactly great anyway so why not try this one out. [WHERE AND HOW MUCH]
I bought it from boots for £9.99 which is a few pound over what I like to pay for mascara but it isn't too bad. See Boots.com

It comes in a 7.2ml tube in black with gold writing and details. ... ...pretty expensive. [EFFECT ON LASHES]
I think the 400% volume increase is a bit exagerated although it does increase volume alot. It makes your eye lashes look fuller and they do curl slighty (my eye lashes have always been awkward to curl so you may get a different effect.) [SO WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE BRUSH?]
Well... erm... nothing really! It's more comb-like than other mascaras so I'm guessing this is to lessen clumping which in all fairness ...

However the name MAX promises to me lashes that I can see when I look up. This is certainly not the case on application. The ifx technology seems to mean a slightly bendy plastic brush with clearly defined bristles. The overall impression is of rather wimpy lashes and repeated coats do lead to clumping as with any other ...

This is possibly the best mascara I have ever used, and believe me I've used a few. Around £8 (depending on shop and area) this is really good value for money - one of these mascaras will probably last me for around 2 months, and I use a lot.
