Advantages: very fast, stable, read and wirte speeds Disadvantages: not very many, low end of the market
...I had already heard that Maxtor make just about every size, shape and speed of hard drive possible before considering buying a new one. I wanted something that would be cheap, around one hundred pounds; fast, most hard drives are anyway so I thought that it was best to go for this little beauty. I brought it of Dabs.com, for around £97.00, very cheap if you compare this to similar priced hard drives with less capacity than this one. One thing though, ... ...incase it goes wrong and Maxtor have to come and fix it. You can find the phone numbers/ email addresses at the back of the English section of the manual.

As I said before, I already had windows 2000 installed and SuSE Linux 8.2, so I needed extra space, and I wanted to keep my existing hard drive and put a second one in.
This was easy, as I had enough connectors and plugins for it. Installing hard drives ...

I also thought you might be interested in the temperatures of the drive, in testing (uncooled – i.e no fans at room temperature) whilst formatting (under load) the drive managed to hit 50° C on the top, and the sides sizzled a nice 54° at its peak.
Maxtor states that the drive’s tolerable ...

Advantages: Very capacious, Good qaulity, Good value for money Disadvantages: Not supported properly by most operating systems
...I have had an External Maxtor Hard Drive for a while and I can admit it's taken some abuse, but it still works fine! So I decided to go for Maxtor's 200Gb drive, the DiamondMax Plus 9.
I baught the OEM version, it was extremely good value for money, I got it for around £90! But the OEM version comes with no software and little did I realise that such a big drive needed to be specially activated first.
I must have spent half an hour tinkering with ... ...and found some software that would set it up for me. And the software worked a treat, except for 1 snag. My ATA drivers couldn't support 200GB and the drive had to be formated to 130GB instead, thats 70GB of valuable space down the pan!! And I am using Windows XP Pro which is one of the later versions of Windows. Failling to find another ATA driver I resigned to having only 130GB of space, after all it was cheap!
The drive definately works, I can ...

I recieveved this 200GB hardisk in my new ADVENT computer over 2 years ago. I have learnt over time that this hardidsk has set the bench mark for all new hardisks. It has a fast read average spead which makes it excellent for storing large files, (NB: To maximize this make sure the size of the cache is minimum of 8MB.) This is due to the fact of the SATA interface being used instead of IDE. Some people have said that one downside is that the loud ... ...is usually a sign of breakage in a hard disk. Experts on the other hand say that these loud noises are becoming the norm because of technology breakthroughs by pushing Computer components to the limit.I have had no breakage signs such as read and write speeds slowing down but two other large hardisks that i got broke within months of buying them and guess what they were ultra quiet.A bit Ironic?
To come to conclusion, this is a good hardisk for ...
