    Maybe it is because I am not really a make-up person. Maybe it is the commercial that made my stomach turn when that beautiful model applies a base coat of this mascara to her lashes. Or maybe, just maybe, it is the product itself that has left me far from thrilled and quite disappointed. When this mascara first came out, I was extremely sceptical of its merits. But then the Ciao reviews came pouring out, praising it with no end.     Having always had stubby, thin eyelashes myself, I am a sucker for any new product that claims to give me a luscious, flutter-worthy set of bambi-style lashes! I lhave tried several different products, some that I haven't bothered with again, and others that I have been somewhat more faithful to. Sadly, I feel this one belongs in the first of those catergories.     I do not wear a lot of make up these days basically because when I was working for Boot’s I had to wear it everyday put that with the fact that I was working in central London you can imagine how clogged up my skin was. So when I left after having my boys I just stopped wearing as much make up and my skin started to look so much better, the one thing I couldn’t give up was mascara and I have used a lot of different ones but they all seem to clog up my lashes and then I end up with panda eyes!     It was time to buy a new mascara ready to flutter my eyelashes at the walls, and, having no particular loyalty to any particular brand, I bought this one by Maybelline. I have used Maybelline mascaras before, and especially like the double ended ones-white on one brush and the black mascara on the other brush, so this looked a grand idea!! This mascara promises that it will add 50% more volume and extra length.     Usually I am very sceptical about expensive make up, but as I sat and watched tv one evening I encountered a Maybelline advert. The product looked so good, my initial reaction was that it was lies intended to make you buy the product for a ludicrous price. My second reaction was well maybe it does work, guess I'll never know until I try.     So I was browsing around the chemist, looking at the mascaras. Usually my staple mascara is L'Oreals Double Extension, but I really couldn't afford £10 this time round, and I fancied a little change. I'm also a person who is addicted to 2- step mascaras, and I now find it hard to buy a 'normal' one as I don't find I'm getting enough volume! So anyway, I was browsing around when I found this.     When this product first came out I was so excited! I begged my mum for some for Christmas and when I got it it was my favourite thing I got never mind anything else! It was the first of its kind and the advert on the TV was brilliant and promised amazingly long eye lashes! However... The packaging is well, shall we say boring? I have a beautiful make up bag crammed full of good stuff and this looks cheap and nasty. Sorry to be nit picking on the packaging but I like my stuff to look great and this is a little tacky!     Having missed out on the Bourjois Coup de Theatre craze first time around, I finally succumbed to the adverts on television and the great introductory price of the Maybelline XXL mascara. I've used Maybelline mascaras before, and I've always been really impressed - they last longer than cheaper brands like Rimmel or Collection 2000, but they do a really great job for the price.     At first I thought this mascara would be just like all the others I had tried, tested, and eventually binned, but I was pleasantly surprised at how brilliantly it worked and still works after 2 months, as usually after a month or so I find that my mascaras are well in need of replacement. But Intense XXL is very different indeed. It comes double ended, with a white brush at the top to give extra length and the black brush at the bottom to give extra volume and colour.
