Advantages Advantages so damn tasty! Very fruity

Disadvantages Disadvantages you can never just have one

For my first non-cafe review in a few days I'd like to tell a little about my favourite unchocolatey sweet, namely Maynards Wine Gums. Last night I chewed through a whole packet in less than a minute (not literally through the packet you understand, I DID take the wrapper off first!). I suppose I should be feeling guilty as 1) I didn't share, and 2) they were meant to be my daughters but I nicked them. I was introduced to these my my dear old uncle Dave as he always had a packet as a travel sweet to distract him from chundering while moving. Obviously I nabbed as many as I could get away with ... more

In previous reviews I have pondered the differences between adult’s confectionary and children’s confectionary. There is no doubt in my mind that there are some product only a child would buy (or admit to buying) and then again there are some products which just do not appeal to children. For example children seem more likely to pick Skittles, Starburst or Refreshers whereas adults seem more likely to choose Opal Fruits (a name which just made so much more sense), Fruit Pastilles or Wine Gums. It is not that children will refuse to eat these sweets but they just do not seem to be their first ... more

My first non - chocolate review for a while. I haven't strayed too far though - I am still in the 'sweet/ chocolate' section. I did not know much about 'Maynards' so I did a spot of research on the internet and found some information. I have inserted it at the bottom of the review for anyone that may wish to view it. My brother has always had a thing about wine gums. He always to this day, comes out from a petrol station with wine gums. He is the one that got me in to them. In fact he came out with a bag of them the other day as we went on a road journey. Wine gums make great companions on car ... more

Advantages Advantages A joy to eat, Very fruity, reasonable price

Disadvantages Disadvantages It is a shame that they only use flavouring's rather than natural juice.

Normally going for a Waitrose bag of Wine gums (which are also scrumptious) I guessed I would of loved these... and believe me I did- especially for the price I picked them up for! It all started in my Uncles, brand new BMW. He forbade any one to eat any food or to drink any beverage in his new car- except water... and Wine Gums- he simply loved them- one day he offered me one- and I have to say, these are now my guilty pleasure... Taste; These are simply a joy to eat. They really are heavenly. They are very soft, like a stickier Hartley's jelly. Unlike cheap wine gums, they don't stick to the ... more

Advantages Advantages A delightfully moorish sweet that doesn't hurt your teeth

Disadvantages Disadvantages they make you fat if you eat too many!

I consider myself a bit of a sweet expert. Or should that be addict? Maybe the two are the same thing but one thing is for sure - when I open a packet of wine gums they'll be lucky to last until the next day. Wine Gums have been around since I was a kid, and so I imagine most people have at least seen them if not tasted them. As far as I can tell they haven't changed the way they make them either, they still taste as good as they always have. Well done Maynards. But the real question I guess is "why are they called Wine Gums?". Well that's easy - if they were called Polos or Fruit Gums you'd ... more

Advantages Advantages Taste good and very nice as a sweet snack.

Disadvantages Disadvantages They can become quite addictive, or is that just me?

Maynards wine gums, in my opinion are the best of all sweets which do not contain chocolate and there are not many days that go by when I don’t suffer a packet of wine gums. Wine gums come in two different sorts, round sweets which are in a roll and they weight 52g and different shapes in a bag these weight 150 or 200g I can never remember which they are. The shaped wine gums have different types of alcoholic drinks written on the top. I am going to talk about the roll of wine gums, the one I have most frequently, I do another op about the bags at a later point, but there is no real point as ... more

I went to the supermarket the other day and as usually a wanted something sweet; so I thought to myself what sweets have I not had for ages? I know, Wine Gums! THE PACKAGING The packaging for wine gums is very bright and stands out to you. They come in small packets, larger packets and at Christmas and Easter they do large tube of them too. The packaging is all the same design, thick bright coloured stripes in green, yellow, black and red coming from the edge of the packet to the center, in the center it says Wine Gums in big letters. The small packs come in a plastic wrapper, wrapped round ... more

    Advantages Advantages Yummy!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Granny and Grandad might have trouble with these

I have been thinking for a while as to what my next review could be about so while grocery shopping last night I decided to treat myself (for the benefit of Ciao of course!) to some nice, tasty Maynard’s Wine Gums. These have been my all-time favourite non-chocolate sweet since I can remember. When we would go for day trips anywhere at weekends and stopped by anywhere that would sell sweets I would always ask for Wine Gums, and the answer would nearly always be "Well it would keep you quiet for a while." And they did. If you ever want to keep your child quiet for any length of time ... more

Advantages Advantages best tasting sweet on the market

Disadvantages Disadvantages not everyone likes these

It's the weekend and it's time to let our hair down or in my case what hair I have left and just go absolute mental. I have just taken my supradyn tablets and therefore im totally hyper .It's been a stressfull week so this weekend is a chance to relax and do what the hell I want ,well almost. So as well as doing a lot of drinking that means a lot of eating is going to be done so looks like a few more food ops are ready to come. When I wake up or go on a trip anywhere I always like to have some chewies (sweets) to nash on and I suppose it's just a habit but hey I love sweets. The good old days ... more

Wine gums are the most eaten sweets in my house! Mum brings home bags of them and we will happily munch them for hour's haha! They aren't the healthiest snack, but they are reasonably priced and satisfying! The price; .... Bags of these are widely found at ... Just about everywhere! We usually buy them for £1 a pack however we occasionally pay up to £1.50 per pack and they are also sold for more in places like the cinemas and in smaller shops. We recently bought a pack which contains 50% extra free! So we got an extra half pack for just £1. Nutrition; .... Everybody knows when they pick up a ... more
