Reader's Digestive

Advantages: Great, smashing, super
Disadvantages: Sugar and fat

I like the odd McVitie's Chocolate Digestive, as long as it's not too odd, that is. They're probably one of the best-known biccies in the UK, which is not surprising really, as they've been around quite a while, since 1925 in fact, and according to their website, a staggering 71 million packets of these fellas are chomped every year in the UK. That's a mind-blowing 52 bics a sec! I often find that after a particularly satisfying blow-job, nothing ...
...to ensure my tea's not too wet, than a McVitie's Chocolate Digestive (hereafter referred to as MCD)...or three. That's the downside, one's never enough. So, without further ado, let's pop the plastic lid off this 250g cardboard tube (which costs around 70-odd pence, depending where you buy it). Just in case you've never ever seen an MCD before (in which case, welcome to Earth), they're round discs about 70mm across and 10mm thick. One side looks ...

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

Advantages: Lovely taste. Nice price too.
Disadvantages: Fattening!

When it comes to biscuits, you really can't beat McVities, can you? I have, and do on a regular basis, eat other brands. But, I always get drawn back to good old McVitie's! Why is this? Well, I'll tell you why I like them so much! I paid only £0.99p for a 400g packet of McVitie's Milk Chocolate Digestive Biscuits. And, there were 33% free - giving you an extra 100g free! (Meaning, you actually pay £0.99p for 300g). The biscuits come in a foil packet ...
...most of the packet are pictures of the biscuits themselves, some of them already having a bite taken out of them. They do look very tempting and appetising. Nice marketing ploy there, me thinks! In bold white lettering with a navy blue background the words 'McVitie's McV' are emblazened on the packet. The packet is easily opened as there is a little nick which you pull round the packet. This will neatly open the packet leaving no mess or broken biscuits. ...

Choccie biscuits!!!

Advantages: Great tasting, Nice sweet taste, Can be dunked in tea
Disadvantages: Very more-ish!

***ABOUT McVITIES*** Mcvities biscuits have been enjoyed by generations for over 100 years and over 71 millions packets of Mcvities Chocolate Digestives are eaten in the UK each year, which is an astounding 52 biscuits per second. Mcvities make a huge range of biscuits and snacks including Hob Nobs, boasters, Cookies, Rich Tea, Ginger Nuts and more. Over the past 5 years Mcvities have benefited from a salt reduction programme, which means they have ...
...golden brown colour and has McVities original which is etched into the bottom of the biscuit. The top of the biscuit is covered in a nice layer of yummy milk chocolate. When biting into the biscuit it’s nice and soft and the biscuit is quite crumbly as well. The base of the biscuit crunches beneath your teeth and fills your mouth with sweetness whilst the chocolate on top melts slightly and tastes divine with the crumbly biscuit. These biscuits can ...

What a trooper!

Advantages: good thick layer of chocolate, lovely taste
Disadvantages: chocolate can melt on your fingers, crumbs

...Digestive and it was always McVities (why always McVities? Well when I was growing up in Northern Ireland there were no Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s, Safeway’s (there was M&S though so it’s not like we were deprived) so there were no supermarket own brands). I went through a phase of eating two for breakfast, after my cereal. I feel that biscuits are often over-looked as breakfast food. But I digress. As the years have passed it has become painfully clear ...
...bit of a revamp. McVities have gotten rid of the “McV” logo and replaced it with “McVities”. You can buy the Milk Chocolate Digestives in virtually any supermarket or convenience store. They come in a variety of pack sizes and even come in a resealable tube. I went for the resealable tube. The price of this varies depending on where you buy it but at most supermarkets it should be less than £1. The pack is mostly brown with a little blue lid and ...

McV - Down with the Adults

Advantages: A classy biscuit
Disadvantages: A letdown?

...people may recognise the name McVities for also being the brains behind Mini Cheddars and Jaffa cakes. The company itself is owned by United Biscuits, what a name. The release of McVities chocolate digestive took place in 1925, and since then the company has now grown to selling 71 million packs a year in the UK alone, which works out as 52 biscuits being eaten per second. Think how many biscuits have been eaten just as you read this review. Makes ...

The biscuit on the front looks really tastey as well, and we are told that no artificial colours or flavours have been included. INGREDIANTS: Wheat flour (39%), milk chocolate (29%)(sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, dried skimmed milk, dried whey, butter oil, vegetable fat, emulsifiers (soya lecithin, ...

McVities Milk chocolate digestive biscuits

Advantages: A superb chocolate biscuit
Disadvantages: too many arent good for the figure!

This week Sainsbury`s have McVities chocolate digestives on offer, a whacking 50% reduction. The biscuits have a good sell by date on them so I stocked up and bought four packets. If they had been on the shelf at full price I would have more than likely considered buying their own brand or even buying the Sainsburys Basic range chocolate digestive. Admittedly the own brand and basic range don`t have the refined almost `syrupy` taste of McVities ...
...the weekly shopping budget. McVities is a brand owned by United biscuits, McVitie and Price were originally Scottish biscuit makers and started baking their delicious biscuits in the early 1800`s in the city of Edinburgh. The first big selling biscuit ever made by McVities was the digestive. Then in 1947 the company were asked to bake the Wedding cake for Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Phillip Mountbatten. I enjoy a chocolate digestive with ...

...the ingenious tube packaging for Mcvities Chocolate Digestives arrived in 1999, and the new creative packaging was used for Hob nobs; another product by MC Vities shortly afterwards. McVitie's biscuits have been enjoyed by generations for just over 100 years. Alexander Grant was the first person to ever make a digestive biscuit. The name "Digestive" was chosen because the biscuit has a high content of baking soda which is an aid to food digestion. ...

2 minutes to midnight

Advantages: tasty, comforting, moreish
Disadvantages: calorific, messy, moreish

Is there anything more comforting than a chocolate digestive? Now that the stunning summer is over (ahem!) and the days are drawing in, the nights get colder and darker and I find myself craving comfort food. I love the food of my childhood; warm, cheap and cheerful with the occasional treat. I remember that our bedtimes were very comforting; a bath, a bowl of cereal and then a mug of warm milk with two biscuits while mum read us a story. This ritual ...
...instead of plain ones Now I am allegedly grown up I don’t have the warm milk anymore, but I still adore chocolate biscuits. After many years of testing and being a skinflint and buying all the supermarket own brands I can safely say that for your run of the mill day to day biccie McVitie’s are quite definitely the best. Fox’s do a nice line in fancy tins and boxes, and there are numerous handmade delicacies around, but good old McV come up trumps ...

Sweet Milky Chocolate Biscuits

Advantages: Sweet and chocolatey
Disadvantages: Really unhealthy - like everything else seems to be!

...one that's why I bought McVities Milk Chocolate Homewheat Digestives. Now I'm sure that most people all know what a chocolate digestive is but for those of you who don't I shall explain. A digestive biscuit is rather different to other biscuits as it is made of wheat and has a sweet wheat taste that you just don't get in any of the others. It also has a nice texture, not like the smooth mush you get when you are halfway through eating a Rich Tea, ...
...chocolate on one side. McVities Milk Chocolate Homewheat Digestives are better than most chocolate digestives, firstly they are made by McVities who are well known for being one of the best biscuit makers in the country and secondly because they are coated in Milk Chocolate rather than normal chocolate. They come in the usual McVities packaging, a round shape because all of the biscuits have been stacked on top of each other inside and it has a ...

Are You a Dunker?

Advantages: Nice biscuits
Disadvantages: Fattening and very addictive; break easily

...licking off the chocolate. McVities Digestives come in plain and milk chocolate varieties. They are basically just wheatmeal digestive biscuits covered in a delicious layer of chocolate. They come in a brown packet, with 'McV' in large white lettering on the front, set against a dark blue background and surrounded by a thin strip of yellow. The image of a half eaten biscuit on the front of the packet is particularly alluring. There is a convenient ...
...this makes opening the packet much easier. The biscuits themselves are round and about 7cm in diameter. There is a wavy pattern over the chocolate and the words 'McVitie's Original' are etched into the digestive part of the biscuit. The biscuits are deliciously crunchy and very crumbly. However, if you dunk them in tea, they become soft and the chocolate melts for you to lick off and enjoy. I like the oaty, wheaty taste of the digestive. But the ...

Seeing as there is a fine packet of these sitting in our secratary's cupboard (of which I have recently 'borrowed' a few) I thought I might as well review them. These wonders of biscuit-hood have been at the top of my favourites list for so long I can only assume I was born with a taste for them! Even more nicely digestible!

Advantages: Best Digestives around
Disadvantages: Expensive

...from my recent rediscovery of McVities Digestives (for those of you who haven't read that opinion, it was entitled nicely digestible and this is the follow up) I decided that I would try the Milk Chocolate covered version in order to see if one of the best biscuits on the market could be improved. So, money in hand, I marched along to my local supermarket and found several alternatives. One of my few criticisms of the uncoated digestives was that ...

...is the carboard tubes of Mcvities Chocolate Digestives and they are 250g tubes for about 70p. The tubes I find are more convinient, as they allow the biscuits to keep their yummy flavour. Disadvantages: They are addictive

...i have always known is McVities Milk Chocolate Digestives. I am sure they used to be called Homewheat biscuits instead, but nevermind as long as they are the same biccies I don't mind!
