5 Stars Darkly Tempting; 100% British Essence! Review with images 28/01/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Delicious taste. Great size. Ultimate classic.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Packaging.

Over the years the biscuit and confectionary industry has boomed, even whilst in the grip of so called ‘fashionable’ size zero hysteria we still couldn’t keep away from our sweet treats. Recently the industry has been taken over by large American snacks which have added to the increased rise in obesity and relegated the staple classics such as Chocolate Digestives, custard creams and hobnobs to the back of our kitchen cupboards. We have been gripped by the cookie madness pioneered by Millie’s cookies, delighted in the donught mania, swept away by the fashionable cupcake and relished the ... more

4 Stars Plainly easy to Digest... Review with images 31/01/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Tasty biscuit and Chocolate. Reasonable price and commonly available. They are a British brand!

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit high in Sugar content.

In Britain, If someone say to you, "Think of five biscuits that instantly spring to mind", One of the first you would undoubtedly think off would be the digestive. Along with Rich Tea, Bourbons, Custard Creams and Hob Nobs (No giggling at the back!), digestives are one of the most recognised biscuit names, and certainly one of the most widely consumed. Many different manufacturers produce digestive biscuits today, and most of them also provide a chocolate covered variety. Arguably the king pin of the chocolate digestives are British food producer McVities, so here are my thoughts on their Dark ... more

5 Stars DARK BUT DEVILISHLY GOOD! Review with images 25/01/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Perfect for dunking into a cup of tea, the dark chocolate is not overpowering

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too dry without dunking them into a cup of tea despite the chocolate layer

I am a massive fan of plain digestive biscuits. Whilst at university I bought Tesco’s own branded plain digestive biscuits but since being at home with the luxury of my dad paying for food, I pop in branded products. I am a fan of milk and dark digestive biscuits but not digestive biscuits without any form of chocolate on, they are too bland. So as not to confuse those not in the know about different types of chocolate, dark chocolate is also termed plain chocolate which is why the review title states plain yet the picture uploaded by Ciao shows dark chocolate. They are the same. I am not ... more

4 Stars They Pass the 'Dunk Test'! Review with images 27/01/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Dunkable in a nice cup of tea! Tasty treat

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Price, unhealthy

I quite like biscuits, though digestives are one of my least favourite types. Add to that I dislike dark chocolate… McVities are the premium choice for your digestives. They come in many flavours, the main being: plain, milk chocolate coated and dark chocolate coated. You can also get speciality flavours, sometimes in limited editions (such as caramel, mint or orange), and can also get low fat versions. Today I shall be reviewing the traditional dark chocolate variant. The biscuit itself is a medium brown digestive, circular in shape with a diameter just over 6.5cm which makes it slightly too ... more

5 Stars Ignore the guilt Review with images 25/01/2011

    Advantages Advantages delish

Disadvantages Disadvantages none ignore the guilt

Intro In the event that the regular biscuit location has been savaged by either my son or my wife, I can sit back safe in the knowledge that there is a place not so far away where I can recoup my sanity and indulge until my hearts content. For it is in this place that I store my secret stash, well they really aren’t so secret since my wife and I do do the weekly shop together so she is aware of the purchase. The location remains as yet undiscovered, but should fate not be on my side and it is suddenly not a secret anymore I can still rest quite safely since only my son likes dark chocolate ... more

Advantages Advantages Tasty, amazing texture, a great luxury

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fattening, a little on the expensive side

At first, I was expecting this McVities biscuit to be absolutely impeccably fabulous, seen as it displays the biscuit so provocatively on the cover of the wrapper. When a biscuit looks sexy on the wrapper, you know that it’s going to be good. The History of the Digestive We may as well start with where the tasty treat found its roots. Digestive biscuits; known also as sweetmeal biscuits were first created in 1876 (or at least, that’s the first time that it has been noted down that they were created). They were created and were popular in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Greece as well as ... more

    Advantages Advantages Yummy!!!!!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I had actually gone into Tesco's the other day in search of their 35p chocolate digestives after reading a review of them on this site but could not find them unfortunately. Well, not to be disappointed and due to the fact by this point I was really craving a chocolate digestive I decided to buy the McVitie's dark chocolate variety. I bought the handy tube variety where the pack of biscuits comes in a round tin/carton. I thought this was quite a good idea because it keeps the biscuits from breaking up, unlike in just a regular packet and also has a lid on the top so I think they would probably ... more

5 Stars McVities Plain Chocolate Digestives Review with images 30/01/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Nice blend of Chocolate and biscuit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages High in Calories

When I sit down to enjoy a cup of tea I always like to have a packet of biscuits by my side. I always used to favour Milk chocolate digestives up until about this time last year when my husband, fiancé at the time, bought a packet of Dark chocolate digestives as Tesco’s had none of the Milk chocolate variety. I had been eating the milk chocolate variety for as long as I can remember and had never tasted the dark, or as Ciao refer to it plain, chocolate version before. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but given my love for chocolate in any consistency and style I was more than willing to ... more

Advantages Advantages A good quality chocolate digestive biscuit

Disadvantages Disadvantages They are extremely moreish

The credit crunch may well be affecting the way in which we shop but there are some compromises that are not worth making. McVitie's chocolate digestive biscuits have a taste and texture like no other digestive biscuit on the supermarket shelf. McVitie's milk chocolate digestive biscuits are desirable but the plain chocolate variety are the Aston Martin of the biscuit aisle. McVitie's may have to charge a penny or two extra for their scrumptious biscuits but it is a price that many are prepared to pay. The McVitie's packaging is unique. The minute you see that deep brown wrapper with the red ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very filling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be quite dry

These digestive biscuits are very filling so if you're on the go and have no time to eat a proper meal then this is the biscuit for you. However, the fact that it is dark chocolate means that not everyone is going to enjoy these biscuits. I think that they are very tasty and good for when I don't have time to eat lunch but I would not advise you to eat them for a meal everyday. Compared to some of their other products, this may be the most unpopular one as many people do not like dark chocolate. For those who like dark chocolate, of all the digestive biscuit range, this is the one for you. I ... more
