Advantages Advantages Quick, convenient, different speeds for different stages

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy!!

I think it is fair to say that I was prepared and planned for Aleyna's birth. I spent the last 2 months of my pregnancy nesting, organising, obsessing, much to my husband's delight as I am normally a little slovenly!! However nothing could have prepared us for Aleyna spending 2 weeks in intensive care. I had already bought the Medela Electric breast pump, I knew I would be going back to work after a short time and I knew if at all possible that I wanted to breastfeed. When my milk had still not come in 5 days after Aleyna's birth (she was on a serum drip in the incubator so no milk for her at ... more

Advantages Advantages EASY TO USE AND QUICK

Disadvantages Disadvantages IT IS NOISY, DOES'NT DRAIN MILK COMPLETELY

MY FIRST DAUGHTER WOULD NOT TAKE TO BREAST FEEDING. I WANTED TO START HER OFF AS BEST AS I COULD, SO I EXPRESSED FOR 3 MONTHS. I TRIED A MAWS HAND PUMP. IT TOOK AGES TO PRODUCE AN OUNCE LET ALONE A FEED! IT WAS DIFFICULT AND VERY TIME CONSUMING. I THEN FOUND THE MEDELA ELECTRIC BREAST PUMP, MY SAVIOUR!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT IS THE ONLY ELECTRIC ONE THAT I HAVE SEEN ON THE MARKET, BUT HEY, IT'S A START. MEDELLA ALSO SELL A MUCH LARGER ELECTRIC PUMP, MUCH LIKE THE ONE YOU MAY HAVE USED IN YOUR HOSPITAL. IT MORE EXPENSIVE, BUT AN OPTION IF YOU NEED IT. I HAVE NOT USED THAT ONE, SO AM UNSURE HOW ... more

Advantages Advantages Small and easy to handle

Disadvantages Disadvantages Breast cup not big enough, noisy and the suction was very weak, expensive

I'm sure if you have a smaller breast then this might be a good pump for you, but having my breasts swell to a 42J cup this did nothing for me at all. I found the breast cup piece did not sit well at all and the suction was terrible. It didn't hug the breast as well as a hand held version nor did it pump quick enough to really get a good flow of milk going. It also makes quiet a loud noise when pumping so you have to do it in a room where your baby isn't! It is small and compact, so ideal for travelling but it means that you cannot get much milk in the bottle as it's so small so you have to ... more

    Advantages Advantages EXCELLENT SUCTION

    Disadvantages Disadvantages COST

Initially I bought an Avent Isis to use when my baby was first born, which was fine when your breasts are full or engorged and the milk flows easily. I found though that once my baby was settled into a routine it became more difficult to produce a let-down using the Avent Isis. So I decided to by the Medela from Boots. Its not difficult to put together, infact it has less bits than the Avent. The nerve wracking bit was putting your nipple into something which you think is going to pull it to about 4 inches long. But I must admit it didn't, once you start on the lowest suction and work your way ... more

    Advantages Advantages Easy to use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not cheap

I made sure that when I had my first baby I got a good breast pump so that I could not only enjoy breastfeeding my litle one, I could also ahv some time off while someone else fed my son but he still had breastmilk. This pump is a nice size and doesnt feel uncomfortable and you can adjust the strength. I found in the morning I was able to express more and I didnt use the strength of the pump to get some milk The importance of pumping while feeding is that it tricks your body into believing you are feeding baby and you therefore produce more milk. I kept this pump and used it again recently for ... more

Advantages Advantages No more tired hands

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Could be quieter

I have used the hand held breast pumps before and found that they alwasy break on me. I can also never get enough milk from them. With my last baby I decided to spend the extra money and purchase a meleda mini electric breast pump. It cost me £42.95 from Boots and worth every single penny. It is so easy to use. When you first take it out of the box you look at it and think 'oh my god. What do i do here?' But once you get used to how it goes together it is very simple. It is useful in the fact that you can run it on either batteries or by the electric main. Using the electric main is very handy ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick & Easy To Use, Comfortable

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Small Bottle included

I originally bought the Maws hand-pump from a local shop, I managed to use it for a few days but it relly made my nipples hurt, was slow, and made my hand really ache. Also the hand pump kept flicking out and I had to start again. So I decided to spend some money and bought the Medela Electronic Breast Pump, I found it really easy to put together and take apart which is essential for cleaning the pump. Once I had plugged it in to the mains and was on my way I was amazed by how much milk I managed to express. The only down side was that the bottles provided are a bit on the small side, and the ... more

Advantages Advantages does the job quickly and easily

    Disadvantages Disadvantages noisy

Hand pumping is virtually impossible- especially following a c-section, when the slightest muscle movement can be painful. I used this pump with both my children and it saved our lives. Its very easy to sterilise and clean with no awkward nooks and crannies. True it is noisy, (the noise use to put my babies to sleep!) but it has a good strong suction, making expressing relatively quick and easy. You need to be careful about positioning, but once you've got the nack its straightforward. It is very useful to help your milk come in, if there has been a delay, or you and baby have struggled to get ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, has batteries as well as a plug, different speeds, efficient

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy

I used this product for three months while I was breastfeeding my little boy. I was able to express enough milk to feed him if I was out for the day or was going to work. I found it really easy to use and was able to express milk at the end of each fed. I was suprised at the amount of milk it was able to extract. The different speed settings were useful as I could adapt it depending on how tender my breasts were at the time. Being able to either plug it in or use it with batteries came in handy for when I went away for the weekend as I was able to use it to ensure that I kept up to date with ... more

Advantages Advantages reasonable price, easy to use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages noisy

Throughout most of my pregnancy I was told that "breast is best" and not really given much information about any alternatives. It didn't even cross my mind that I might have problems breastfeeding and just assumed that I would be able to do it without a second thought. However when the time came to try feeding my 11 lb 5 oz daughter for the first time I was shocked at how painful it was. We perservered for a while but it soon became obvious that she wasn't getting enough milk from me no matter how hard we both tried and we were both getting stressed. We moved to bottle feeding very quickly ... more
