    Advantages Advantages Academically sound, all round good fun

    Disadvantages Disadvantages distance from home, lots of southerners

    On coming to southampton i thought that they can't be a good school because they have been desperate enough to allow myself entry. But since being here, i can see why they let me in. They are not interested as much in academics as communications. They stress that to be a good doctor you must be able to listen and they help you by introducing those aspects into a timetable that is not overloaded by study but does i feel have the correct sufficient amount. Social life is good but is expensive, hey its the south. Sports are good. There are even a small group of northerners down here, undoubtedly ... more

    Advantages Advantages teaching, sports, beer

    Disadvantages Disadvantages its a bit of a small city

    doing medicine, although a long hard slog, is defintiely worth the effort. accepted, there are five years of work ahead of you once you're accepted, but this is frequently interspersed with a variety of extra curricular activites involving alcohol and sport. there is no need to dwell on the academic side of the course as this is covered in depth by the prospectus, unlike the social side of this course. there is much interyear mingling, which in my case predominantly arose due to a number of sports that i took part in, like football, hockey, basketball and rugby. this isn't a very good review ... more

    It is no longer a secret that doctors are no longer the friendly people you used to trust with your life and well-being. We are now simply another cog in the massive wheel of the NHS. We jump when the government of the day says so. The ideas, often well meant, are good but in terms of its effect of working environment - forget it. Which brings me back to the course. Great course at Southampton - just don't do it. Medicine is a hopeless career. If you want to work hours that are illegal for everybody else and get paid less than the cleaner for being up at 3am resuscitating someone's granny ... more
