Advantages Advantages mobiles are great when you have to keep in touch emergencies etc.

Disadvantages Disadvantages There are warning noises from the Govt. they probably know more than they let on.

The debate is on again, with govt. saying the earphone is safer and the Consumers' Association sticking to its original view that the 'hands free'wires act as an aerial for radiation. Who is right? Surely by this time, and access to fast-breeding animals it would be possible to have some scientific data, so it looks as though there's a cover-up. What will come of the U.S.litigation started by the doctor with brain cancer? Watch and see. It should be easy enough to measure radiation levels close to the mobile phone and also close to the earphone, and come to a definite figure, even though the ... more

Advantages Advantages safer when mobile, reduced radiation

Disadvantages Disadvantages cables break, cables can snag and rip out your ear

Today a report indicates that hands-free is a safer way of using a mobile phone which was always going to be the case. The Which? report was clearly based on unsound detecting techniques. To remove any doubts from hands-free units all that is required is to fit ferrite absorbers around the cable. Whilst there is some doubt as to the level of Radio Frequency (RF) power that the body can safely tolerate then hands-free is by far the best option. For vehicle use it is arguable that more people will die from bad driving whilst trying to use the mobile phone than from medical side effects of the RF ... more

    Advantages Advantages Wonderful communication technology

Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing that has come near to being proved

The great problem with the subject of cellular radiation is that, like most of the modern-day scare stories we hear about, no-one actually seems to know the truth. Whenever some scientist, either through a genuine desire to be of service to mankind, or (am I being perhaps just a tad cynical?) to get their name in the news and so further their own career, comes up with a POSSIBLY dangerous scenario, the newspapers always seem to treat the item as gospel. Of course the next day some other scientist, perhaps with equally personal motivations, will vehemently deny that there is any cause for ... more

Advantages Advantages Great for Emergency Situations

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Radiation

Cellular phones have been getting more and more popular with the consumer. At first, everyone figures that they should get a cellular phone because it is the latest technology. It is not until after they have been out a while that you start to get this kind of information about radiation. It should serve as a warning to those people who use their phone for every call they make. Many people always talk on their cell phone with no regard for common decency. Perhaps if there is some detremental health factor, people will begin to realize that maybe they should have more control on their phone use ... more

    Advantages Advantages Convenient, cheap,

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor signal, slight health risk,

Mobile phones like most things in life carry a very small risk. In their case, it is radiation. This risk has to be weighed against the benefits of using mobile phones. As long as each user has the relevant information, they can decide themselves if the "risk" is worth taking. The risk increases depending upon just how much you use the phone. If the industry can think of ways of reducing the risk, then these improvements should be made but it will not stop people using these phones. They have become too much a fact of like these days. ... more

Advantages Advantages No real conclusive evidence of danger for moderate use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Possibility that heavy use is dangerous

I've yet to hear any convincing evidence proving that mobile phones emit dangerous levels of radiation. Certainly, we've heard some reports saying there are dangers and some saying they are safe. If there was a convincing body of evidence there would be a consensus amongst the 'experts'. As it stands the findings we've heard so far do suggest that there is a possibility that mobile phone use can be harmful and that further studies should be conducted. I also think that many of us have become biased by the hype created by the media, rather than the findings themselves. At present the best ... more

    Advantages Advantages no problems whatsoever

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I think there will prove to be no problems with radiation from proximaty to mobile phones. It is the common for the public to become worried about such problems. The only health risk possible from mobile phone radiation is the chance that you may get a radiation BURN from the aerial on your phone. This will only happen if the aerial is taken off and the metal piece revealed during a call, or perhaps if the aerial is faulty. The newest mobile phones (such as the Nokia 3210) have no aerial, so even this will not be possible. ... more

Advantages Advantages Use a hnads-free headset

Disadvantages Disadvantages don't spend all day with the phone to an ear

I have to say that I think the jury is still out on this topic. THe serious contradictions one sees in the media simply make the decisions even more confusing. However, taking simple precautions should not be ignored - I do believe that the use of hands-free headsets should be encouraged, if only because they are convenient and mean that your phone can be kept out of sight from the opportunist thief in crowded areas. I also consider that their use in cars is essential - trying to manage a phone and a deadly instrument together is hardly sensible. I suppose the chances are if one spends all day ... more
