Advantages Advantages Cheaper than buying them, satisfaction of doing it yourself

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes a bit of time, but I have plenty of that!

JR Universal inkjet black refill kit. This is rather a long review, and I hope not to boring. For my 50th Birthday, my Family kindly clubbed together and bought me a computer, not a new one, just a basic second hand model with windows 98, but it did me a treat, it had no speakers, or printer with it, but I found a pair of compatible speakers at a car boot for £1.00. My Sister had an old Hewlett Packard DeskJet 600 printer in her garage, which she kindly gave me. This is just a black printer, (not colour) and as there was no ink cartridge in this printer, I promptly went out to buy one… To my ... more

2 Stars The great printer ink rip off! Review with images 15/06/2012

Advantages Advantages Gets the job done

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive rip off

As we all know printer ink is the biggest rip off on the planet right now. The big electronics companies that make inkjets use the refill cartridge for a cash cow to subsidize their other products, like Gillette did by inventing the disposable razor and then making sure it didn’t last as long as the perfectly fine fixed normal blades did so you keep buying new ones. Mobile phone companies went one step further and perfected the ruse by giving away their new technology cheaply on the condition you were hooked into expensive call and text contracts so to claw back the phone cost and then big ... more

    Advantages Advantages Save money!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Need patience!

Inkjet cartridges are very expensive, particularly so for Hewlett Packard printers, although I am sure that most makes of printer have equally expensive cartridges. You can get the Hewlett Packard printers at very competitive prices now, and I have a Deskjet 710c, which has been replaced by newer models, nevertheless I think it is a good quality printer, quiet, and the print quality is crisp and clear. The only downside to this printer for me, is the cost of new inkjet cartridges, and I do tend to run out fairly often, as I am always printing information which I find on the web, apart from the ... more

Advantages Advantages Offers huge saving on new cartridges

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be messy and fiddly

Like many people I find the cost of new printer ink cartridges too expensive. I have tried the alternative route of buying refurbished ones where empty cartridges are cleaned, refilled and resold. My opinion, don’t waste your money. The simple reason is the cartridge’s metal contacts are very delicate and are made useless by taking them in and out of the printer numerous times. If you get a well used refurbished cartridge it simply won’t work or packs up after a few days, I know this from painful and expensive experience. A better idea which I now use you may want to try, is refilling your own ... more

    Advantages Advantages great cost reduction

Disadvantages Disadvantages you may get dirty

At home we use a Lexmark printer (Z31). Actually, we’re quite happy with it. It is good value for the money and the print image is okay. But it has one substantial error: it needs terribly expensive ink cartridges. You can keep comparing prices, you just won’t find anything for a reasonable price. I mean reasonable for the shopper – for the producer it is reasonable! The black cartridges cost about 24 $, the colour cartridges about 28 $. I still had another idea and had a look into a catalogue for office supplies and really – the cartridges were a bit cheaper there. But ... more

J R Universal Inkjet Refill Kits --------------------------------------- A little while ago (15/9/02 to be exact-still have the receipt) I purchased the J R Universal Inkjet Black Refill Kit from my local Asda store for £8.09. I bought it because my Epson printer had ran out of black ink and quite frankly I didn’t want to pay the price (around £15 - £20) for the manufacturers ink, which only re-fills once.(If this makes me a bit tight, then so be it☺). So why have I still got the receipt after all this time I hear you ask. This will become apparent shortly. But first let me tell you ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheaper

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be messy

After some deliberation I yet again made a trip down to PC World, not my favourite shop as staff tend to be totally useless. But, if you know what you want and you do not have to ask any questions you know you can be in and out within a flash. There are many refill kits on the market, from the well known brand JR Inkjet Refills or shops own brands, you get the same amount of ink in each bottle as you do in the more expensive brands, and the instructions are exactly the same. I took down the prices of the JR brand, for the black ink refill which was £11.99 for 2 x 30ml bottles, and £18.99 for ... more

    Advantages Advantages Saves more money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Makes your hands and table dirty if you're not patient - LOL

Inkjet printers are not expensive nowadays. Having an inkjet printer is very useful to print documents, photographs, and other materials. But, when the time to change the ink cartridge comes, it makes us think things, because as I have observed that the price of a new ink cartridge equals to 1/3 of the price of the printer itself! It is the fact! As an alternative, fortunately we could buy the cartridge refills though refilling a cartridge is not recommended by printer-manufacturers. That is why, we always hear that refilling a cartridge might cause a damage on the cartridge. It is also the ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheaper Ink for most Brands

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I can think of

I found www.ink2u.co.uk via an opinion by davegroom here on Ciao and decided that I would have a look when we needed some ink in a hurry and had found that the cartridges for our Lexmark Z12 wouldn’t refill properly with the ink that I had purchased. The site itself is really easy to navigate. From the home page you select the brand of printer that you have and then select the model of the printer. This then brings up all the products in stock for your specific printer. As I said, we have a Lexmark Z12 and have found the cartridges to be between £25 and £30 in our local shops, if they ... more

Advantages Advantages cheaper than branded refills

Disadvantages Disadvantages only for the big company's

I have been refilling my own inkjet cartridges for a couple of years now and find it very economc in comparison to branded cartridges. Refill kits can be bought from many different suppliers on the internet, shop around though prices do vary quite a lot. Most kits include black, yellow, magenta and cyan inks, a pair of rubber gloves syringes and blunted needles. These days I buy my ink in 500ml bottles which works out even cheaper. How do you refill? Prepare an area where you can refill without having to worry about stains if you spill the ink, I asually do it in the kitchen and put plenty of ... more
