    Advantages Advantages Shop around

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many fiddle the insurance

70% of all of Europe’s whiplash claims are now made in the United Kingdom and 70% of those in the Northwest of England with claims rising 70% in just 5 years. Rather uncomfortably, 70% of arrests made for fraudulent claims are the same post code areas and communities over and over again, a specific demographic partly responsible for this massive rise in compensation claims. You only need Google ‘crash for cash arrests’ to discover this. These false and fraudulent claims add around £100 to every car insurance policy in the UK. 1500 claims per day - some 500,000 per year- are made for whiplash ... more

Have you read your home insurance policy booklet? Do you even have a policy booklet? Do you know what your insurance policy covers? Do you know what it excludes? It is very important that you know the answers to all of these questions when your Home Insurance Policy is concerned. I have worked with various types of insurance in the past, home insurance normally can cause the most problems for people, especially when they don’t read what their policy excludes and what excesses are applicable. When shopping around for home insurance you should never base your judgement on price alone, you must ... more

Advantages Advantages Can be very cost-effective use of your time

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not all companies will play ball

Many years of trying to drive down my motoring costs have brought me to the following conclusions which may be of use to others:- a) Try not to have accidents - this may seem trite, but not being the guilty party helps a lot. In 25 years and 500,000 miles on the road, I have only ever been rear-ended. Drive defensively, maintain as large an "envelope of safety" around you as you can. If some fool cuts you up, and reduces your braking distance, drop back - he's only gained about 2 seconds on his journey time. Reassess your "envelope" all the time. Even if the person behind is too close, there ... more

Advantages Advantages To help you hang onto your card if this happens to you.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You might skim read and miss the important bit.

I have just heard about a new cashpoint theft scandal. A friend of a friend used a cashpoint in Slough this week. When he inserted his card, it was retained by the machine. It was after banking hours so he was unable to report the fault. Then a man approached him and asked if the machine had swallowed the card as it had just happened to him as well. The man then advised that when it had happened to him before, the bank simply returned the card by post with an explanation - so it probably wasn't anything to worry about. Not wanting to give up straight away, this friend of a friend returned to ... more

Advantages Advantages Brokers or Agents generally will give you a better quote than a direct insurer. Your local high street broker is your best bet.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Direct insurer telesales staff will generally not have the experience or knowledge of your local broker.

If you own a car in the UK I may be able to offer you some free advice on possibly the most expensive part of your motoring year - Motor Insurance. I worked in the motor insurance industry for 11 years, processed thousands of quotations, dealt with countless claims and occasionally wrote for one of the industry's leading magazines, the Insurance Times. I must say at this stage that I'm no longer in the motor insurance industry and therefore the advice you're all about to receive is totally independent. 1. When shopping around for a quotation, did you know that 80% of the time your high street ... more

I have been driving for 10 years and without a claim but a drive a class 10 insurance car so the premium is high. However, a few years ago I stubbled on an interesting way to lower my car insurance - haggle. This is what happened - I was quoted a price by Commercial Union - it was a astronomical figure in the 1000's. so I decided to phone some other companies, I soon found at that each insurer that I phoned asked me what the best price was that I had already been given. The best price was £775 third part, fire & theft. The next insurer said they'd take £50 off that figure - the next was even ... more

Advantages Advantages Read below and let me know if any

Disadvantages Disadvantages Same ole story, you pay, they don't

Last year when came the time to renew my content insurance I took full advantage of an offer sent to me by my bank. On taking my Content Insurance with them, I would be given £20 cash back.. After some shopping around I took them on, got a quote and sign on the dotted line. One think one must know about Banks and Supermarket providing insurance of any sort is that they really don’t, so let me explain the process. In my case Lloyds TSB acted as a Broker. It means that although they will bring in the punter, they cannot – I cannot stress this anymore – in any way provide you with the insurance ... more

Capital One Payment Protection Policy. Last week I received from Capital One a detailed tri fold brochure out lining the company’s payment protection insurance policy document. Its large font setting impressed me, the main bold headers which make it easier to read especially when you do not have an owl’s eyesight! What a relief! What I do like about this policy is that it is being simplified and the wordings, meanings and explanations make it easier for you to understand. It is the first time I really took time to read it through! In times past, I have received policy document in ... more

Advantages Advantages You don't have to go to an isurance house to get insurance, you can do it from the comfort of your home

Disadvantages Disadvantages Most of them confuse us with insurance jargons

Below are 10 suggestions for an insurance company website. This list will be useful for insurance companies that sell their products through agents. 1. Stop talking about yourself so much so that one gets tired of hearing it. By reminding the consumer of what you have, only reinforces the perception that insurance companies have all the money. Tell the consumer what you have to offer them instead. 2. Make your site reliable in a sense that, you may run your personal, commercial, and life lines as separate businesses, but your website should look and feel professional . Choose a design and ... more

I may be teaching a few grannies to suck eggs here but I shall stick my neck out anyway. I recently purchased a new car. I took the finance from the dealership, I negotiated a good rate and was happy with my deal. It was then I learned about GAP insurance. Basically, we all know that when you drive your new or nearly new vehicle off the forecourt, you leave a little value behind on the tarmac....its called depreciation. Worst case scenario.....you drive a mile down the road, wham bang someone hits you causing a fair bit of damage. Out comes Mr Assessor who offers you £1,500 less than what you ... more
