    Advantages Advantages A Clean Kitchen

Disadvantages Disadvantages The Kitchen Cant Clean Itself

Below I have listed some kitchen tips that I managed to find, I hope they are of some use to you :-) KITCHEN DISASTERS We all have done it; occasionally in the middle of cooking we answer the telephone or completely forget to check on the food, this equals a kitchen disaster but do not panic! these tips should come in handy: Burnt Gravy Pour it into a clean pan, add some sugar to it a little at a time (to avoid it becomming too sweet) the sugar will take the burnt flavour away. Lumpy Gravy Add a knob of butter, if this does not work you can pass the mixture through a sieve. Too Much Salt If ... more

    Advantages Advantages Works

    Disadvantages Disadvantages dunno

Ok, just a quick tip for all you out there who haven't already discovered this. Toothbrushes (mind new ones used specifically for the purpose, not the same ones for your teeth, as ppl seem to assume when I tell them this), are EXCELLENT mini scrubbers. They work both in the bathroom and in the kitchen for ALL those tight spots that drive you mad. And, because the bristles are plastic they don't scratch or harm any surface. Just add a small amount of washing up liquid to the bristles (harder brushes work better than soft ones) and just rub all around the tight areas that would otherwise be ... more

Advantages Advantages Useful tips you might not know

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that i can think off

Yes i am back, i have been off ciao for a long time so i hope you enjoy reading about useful tips in the kitchen, here goes; 1) When boiling an egg, first make a prick in the rounded end. This allows steam to escape and stops cracking. 2) When making shortcrust pastry( and you all do dont you), wrap it in a plastic bag and refrigerate for half an hour to allow it to rest prior to rolling. 3) Make mashed potato a bit different by stirring in thick natural yoghurt and herbs and garlic. 4) An easy way to grate a piece of freshly peeled ginger is to freeze it, then grate when you need it. 5) To ... more

4 Stars Keep Your Herbs Fresh Review with images 24/01/2011

Advantages Advantages Keeping the fruits and vegitables fresh for longer time.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Frozen herbs loose a lot of flavour and colour when defrosted.

The rains are here at last and while its great to get some respite from the heat, the season brings its own problems and mos of them concern the kitchen.Cae has to be taken to store the vegitables as they rot faster in the humidity. The problem of spices getting mouldy and fruits and vegitables rotting was not so severe a couple of decades back. This was mainly because most families brought their vegitables daily instead of storing in the refrigerator. Spices too were freshly groud. Here are some ways to keep your herbs fresh. Snip off a little bit of the stalk like one does with flowers whose ... more

    Advantages Advantages Many

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cannot think of any

After reading Jayl’s very good tips I thought I would add a few. Fairy Soap I use Fairy bar soap for cleaning all sorts of things in the kitchen. The cooker, hob, sink and worktops. I find it gentle but effective. Rub a little on a scourer for the oven and hob then rub, rinse with clear water then buff. Cake Cases When making jam tarts, mince pies or any other thing of that nature, don’t put pastry direct into pattie tins use a cake case first. This makes them easy to remove and stops any sticking that might occur due to leaking out of contents of tarts. Quick easy nutritious soup. You really ... more

(not recommended for some enamel baths!) - SOLUTION - fill up the bath tub to just above the scum line and fill with washing powder, yes, washing powder the stuff that you put into your machine. Leave overnight and let the water go the following day. Clean around the bath with a new cloth and it will come up sparkling! Can't get the bottom of the toilet bowl clean? (again not suitable for some enamel toilets) - SOLUTION ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, eco friendly, quick and easy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some maybe not as powerful as chemicals

LIMESCALE To shift limescale from taps, soak some toilet paper in vinegar and wrap it around the tap, covering the limescale. Then wrap the tissue in clingfilm and leave overnight. Next day the limescale will come off easily! In kettles, put some water and bicarbonate of soda inside, mix with some vinegar to cover the element and boil. RED WINE Remove red wine stains from the bottom of a decanter by adding a few grains of rice and some distilled white vinegar. Rotate gently; the abrasive action of the rice will gently remove inaccessible deposits. TOILETS For regular cleaning, drop a couple of ... more
