I love entering competitions - I always have and I am pretty lucky in them. However, there are some companies that can use competitions as a way to 'trick' you into buying certain products or services and I know because I was caught out when I was 18. I never normally win competions but was very surprised when i got a call a week later to tell me i had won the runner up prize as a free makeover. I was delighted cos ave always wanted to have this done. I won second prize while at sunderland air show 2007. I was chuffed to pieces. i never win anything. I got dead exciting a day out getting pampered. I was told that on the day i would be pampered for 3 hours. Hair, make-up and finishing with photographer that a photo of you and you get a 12 x 8 photo FREE. My friend and I recently went to Studio London. Our experience was initially much like the one described earlier. The only difference was that right from the start they were encouraging us to drink their bucks fizz... it began with one glass when we entered, another whilst we were waiting to have our picture taken... and then whilst we were waiting 1 hour for the photos just down the road they left the bottle out and encouraged us to drink more. ...
...with £100 per month for 12 months - that's a whacking £1200 for just 20 photos, 1 CD and a wall hanging. I wish I'd read in advance about the hard sell. We should have realised what was going on when we saw a couple of ladies leaving and getting very upset with one of the sales ladies. Please don't go to Studio London unless you're 100% convinced that you'll be stand up to the very tough sales pitch. Don't make the same mistake we did :-( ...

Basically I purchased a package online from www.makeover4u.com, online cost £39.99 where it saves about 80% on the normal cost if you were to buy direct. The studio 'en vogue studios' is based in manchester city centre just near afflecks palace. The package included various beauty treatments, facial, paraffin wax treatments, hand massage and a manicure. This lasted ...

This company basically runs a scam which tricks the foolhardy into believing they have won a makeover in a competition. When they turn up on the day, often with a friend in tow, they have orange make-up slapped on them and a fan pointed at them and pose for "tasteful" photos - ie holding a rose, wearing a hat at a jaunty angle, sitting astride a motorbike, all in the pre-requisite soft focus....mmmm...nice. They then are told that they have to pay ...
...of which are poorly framed, cutting the top of the subject's head off. Even if they don't buy the prints, they have to fork out a couple of hundred quid to buy the copyright on the photos - otherwise they might find their ugly/beautiful/gormless/otherwise (delete as appropriate) mug plastered all over something/somewhere or used as an advert to con others. Hi there i won a free makeover at the North East car show from makeover 2000. So me, my boyfriend and my free guest went in to Newcastle town centre where i had to pay 50p per 15 mins parking, i put a couple of pounds in the meter and waited for 2 hours. Then the women who does the hair and makeup came for me and my friend. I expected my boyfriend would beable to come and watch the photo shoot but no that did not happen the women asked him to wait ...
...waiting room, what a discrace so he said he would just go home. So he left me and my friend to get the makeover, 2 hours later we were done only to find that we had to come back again in 1 hour to to view the pics (they were very nice). The price of them is unbelivable £220 for the slides on there own and you dont get the copyrights to it so you cant even get them printed any where. HI, Have been reading about Cover SHots International and have to say that once you know about the expensive photos and are prepared to say no, It is a great day out and cheap if you do it right! THe first time I had a photo session was with cover shots and they were great I felt like a famous model for the day had my own studio make up artist etc and the photos came out great. I did fall for the sales pitch the first time and bought 5 photos but ...

A couple of years later i went to another one this time at a different Studio (cant remember name sorry) this was even better my photos came out brill and because i have won the makeover day and 1 free photo when the sales man tried to sell me i just said no and didnt let me talk me round. I signed up for a free prize draw in buchanan gallaries and "won" a free makeover/photoshoot for two - decided to take my mum - big mistake. The place is unbelievably tacky and full of neds.
