Advantages Advantages One of the Best Times of your Life, An Adventure!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be Daunting & Scary!

"I'm going to be sick..." "No you're not." "Yes I really am, get ready..." "For heavens sakes be quiet, you will NOT be sick!" "Okay then, I think there's something wrong with my head..." And for those of you who haven’t already guessed this was how the conversation went in my mum's car on the way to University 3 weeks ago. If I had to describe the way I was feeling I'd say sick (for those of you who didn’t pick up on that before!), nervous, terrified, quaking in my boots and any other adjectives to describe pure dread! The journey seemed to take forever and was filled with bad omens… or ... more

Advantages Advantages Make new friends, learn new skills

Disadvantages Disadvantages stress, debt, not for everyone

As many of you know, I’m nearing the end of my university course. So I thought I’d sit down and write a no-holds-barred account of my opinions of university life, and hopefully offer some useful tips for potential students & parents alike. I hope this review will be honest, funny & not too off-putting. Is University For You? When you are at sixth form, university is often rammed down your throats so hard, you forget there are other options. I’m going to be straight up with you here and say university is not a picnic. You will have to cope with (unless you are lucky) extreme debts, loneliness ... more

Advantages Advantages some of the best times of your life

Disadvantages Disadvantages the "downs" may seem worse than they really are if you're not warned about them

Hello... I'm a second-year Law student at Exeter University, I have lived in catered halls and in a flat in self-catered halls, and I will be moving into a rented house next year (my final year). I have had an absolutely fantastic time so far and I don't regret going to university at all, but uni life has got a few "downs" as well as the much-publicised "ups". So here we go... Your choice of accommodation has a huge effect on how much you enjoy (or not) your university life. As a general rule: old halls with "standard" rooms (a bed, a sink, a table, etc... no fancy stuff like en-suite ... more

Everyone is at risk from crime nowadays. whether you are young or old, male or female. So why is it that students are seen to be more at risk? Some criminals target student areas as students are more likely to be careless and carry expensive items on them. Examples are mobile phones, portable CD players, bikes, watches and jewellery. One of the reasons I chose to go to Cardiff University in 2001 was that I had heard that it was a very safe place to live, despite being a capital city. However, when I was there at least once a week there was been an incident of a student being mugged or attacked ... more

Advantages Advantages Meeting loads of lovely people

Disadvantages Disadvantages flatmates are luck of the draw

I fled the nest in October of last year to start university filled with barely contained excitment and anticipation. I have always been the type of person who makes friends fairly easily and, unlike many of my friends, I wasn't that worried about starting my life over again- in fact, I was genuinely looking forward to it! I didn't particularly enjoy my time in my small sixth form and found it very claustrophobic so I was really looking forward to moving somewhere bigger! The independance, the new opportunities! I couldn't wait! I arrived at my accomodation with my Dad, promptly waving him off ... more

First off, I'm unashamedly copying bubblegumprincess in choosing to write a uni life op. Sorry Katy! But in reading hers, it struck me that we both had very different experiences of that dreaded first year at uni, but both of us had a pretty tough time. So, never being able to keep my mouth shut when I feel I have something to say, I thought I'd share my experiences of university :) I'm proud to say that I'm a student at the wonderful University of Leeds, and will very soon be embarking upon my second year there. I'm so unbelievably happy there you'd never ever guess that I was on the verge of ... more

Advantages Advantages Social life, CV points.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be time consuming

Having spent the first two years of university finding entertainment in my house by living in halls and then with four other girls, I was suddenly plunged into the grown-up world of a third year two person flat. Being a dosser sociology student and having no need to get up in the mornings I was dissappointed to experience a sudden dip in my social life. I mean, honours? Work? What? This apparently means you can't go out anymore. Actually, I'd just like to point out right now that I am taking my degree seriously and averaged a 2:1 this year, but being the concientious type I do my work in the ... more

Well, looking back on this opinion, the comments from some members exclaiming it to be far too early to judge university life have been proved uncategorically correct! I first wrote this opinion after just one week at university when, let's face it, I felt pretty shit. A grotty flat with austere furniture and basic decor a Juvenile Detention Centre would be proud of. However, 9 months on, I was a little bit upset, dare I say it, teary eyed, to leave my humble abode for the last time, take down my posters and pack away my books forever. The moral of this story; give things a chance. My ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Know when to stop

I'm in my fouth year at uni now and I know before writing this that there are going to be certain individuals that completely oppose what I am about to say but believe me this is how I see it. For the past three year's i've been in halls at uni, and believe me i've had a ball!!!! The first year, when joining uni, you've just left the nest, you're a little unsure and you don't know what to expect, but believe me if you go in with the right attitude thinks can be fantastic. I took a year out before going to uni (intending to make money, and misrably failing) but the simple advantage was, a year ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Loan, overdraft and that little thing called work

I'd better start this op with a warning. This op is a lighthearted look @ uni, and my experiences there. It does have some serious advice in it, but on the whole, it's a bit of fun! Well, today I left my halls of residance for the last time. I moved out all my stuff, having completed the first year of my uni life. It's been surreal, fantastic, awful and weird all rolled together. I wanted to write this op today whilst everything was fresh in my head. So here it goes! When I left home to go to uni last September I wasn't worried or nervous at all. My friends all had their reservations but I ... more
