Advantages Advantages Lovely shiny, sparkly, clean windows, that everyone will admire and envy.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes a bit of effort.

~ ~ I’ve lost count of the number of opinions I’ve read since I joined Ciao about cleaning windows, endorsing this cleaning product and that. Mr. Muscle is probably the best of these, with the worst (in my opinion) being Windolene, that leaves the glass with so many streaks you’d swear an army of snails had been marching up and down it all day long. Cif Wipes, the one wipe cloths, seem to be the latest craze, with a lot of recent opinions giving them a good write up and rating. I haven’t tried these yet, but in my time I’ve probably tried just about everything else. “Her indoors” is very ... more

Not something I like to do very much, but I have a few tips, which may help those amongst you clean those 'panes' in the arse that we call windows. It may interest you to know that windows were originally just holes in the wall, In medieval times, with no actual glass in them, It's only when glass is invented that all the cleaning malarkey starts, and the word window is actual translated from the Anglo-Saxon meaning "wind-eye" which is literally what they were, a blooming great hole in the wall where the wind blows through. The first glass in widows in domestic buildings was introduced in ... more

Advantages Advantages Virtually free, works perfectly.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages N/A

Free? it can't be can it? Well yes it can, just about. When I was 8 or 9 years old, I remember asking my mother if I could wash the windows outside on one summer's day. I'll never forget what taught me on that day, for some reason it has always stuck. Forget all those expensive, fancy cleaning products and try this out: Take a bucket and half fill with warm water. Add a little vinegar (any type) and stir. I would add about one tablespoon to one litre of water (2 pints). Then, instead of using a fancy cloth, use newspaper to wipe the windows. You needn't soak the newspaper, just dip the ... more

    Advantages Advantages cleans your windows

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

On a recent visit to my Auntie’s house I came back with a nice technique of cleaning windows, having read an opinion on ciao which also mentioned this technique, I was assured that it must work since other’s know about it. She herself is very conscious of her windows especially the ones inside like glass windows, cabinet windows etc. Having a small child who puts his little finger prints everywhere doesn’t help. So she said get an old bottle and put hot water in and then get a newspaper and fold it in a square shape. And then spray onto the window and use the newspaper to ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great at Cleaning

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Disposable

Since the birth of my first and only child, I have discovered just how dirty windows can get. Jammy fingermarks galore are the least of it. At the same time, however, I discovered a product that would solve all my problems, did I but know it. Baby wipes have got to be one of the best cleaning products ever invented. They clean just about anything, but especially surfaces like windows. A quick wipe over the window with a baby wipe, and a polish up with a bit of kitchen towel, and your windows are sparkling again. I must use baby wipes for cleaning just about anything. Highly recommended. ... more

    Advantages Advantages clean, shining windows

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

This is going to be a sort opinion I will tell you that ahead of time because there is only so much I can say about this as it is quick and easy. Window cleaners tend to streak and I have tried many different brands so I don't use them. I take a squirt bottle and put half water and have white vineager in it and this is what I use for streak free window washing. Just spray it on. It leaves a nice clean window with no streaks. Drying with paper towels or cloths can also leave streaks and what I use is what many businesses and institutions use is just plain crumbed up newspaper. The print does ... more

Not only is James useful for driving the family Jaguar to corporate functions and cleaning the car tyres, he has an associate in the world of menial tasks. He's called Bob. Bob Cleans your windows. Bob knows not to peer into a slightly open crack in the window to investigate any saucy happenings, he's bred that way. Bob costs about a bowl of soup and a loaf of bread a week. whereas James has the benefit of live in accomodation, provided the cows are grazing. Bob tends to clean his windows with old newspaper and water, which he swears is the best clean ever. James is happy to provide old copies ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap and environmentally green

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can get ink on your hands

This is one that has been passed down in my family, and works with all glass surfaces. Forget the commercial cleaners and paper towels, use a newspaper & water. It works fantastically. Since there are no chemicals additives etc there are also no smears. Its a great way to reuse newspaper, and I'm pretty sure you can still recycle them afterwards. It's so much cheaper this way, not to mention greener, so you can save money, the environment and have clean windows all in one! Go on, try it and tell your friends! ... more

just a small tip, after you have dusted your tv screen use a cup full of water with just a couple of drops of fabric conditioner in it then rub gently over the screen with a clean cloth, this will keep the dust away for a lot longer and prevent static. one extra bonus it makes it smell nice as well!! this is a tip handed down to me from my nan she did it all the time, she also used to put bicarbonate of soda in the bottom of ash trays which put the cigarette out safely and elliminated nasty wiffs i,ve not done this myself but it worked for her,so good luck if you use any of these tips and happy ... more
