Advantages Advantages The people at the test centre make you feel like a criminal (always wanted to know what that was like)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Being forced to fill out all the fields above even though they are utterly pointless

Miss Dutton-Taylor sat before me sporting her unusually large chin and attempting to intimidate me with disapproving looks. As she shook her head in disgust hypnotically swaying her Jimmy Hill/ Bruce Forsyth sized body part, I stifled a giggle that did not go unnoticed. It was at this point that I was advised not to return to Allerton Grange High to retake my A-levels and further to this, it was suggested that I take up a career in refuse collection (or something as intellectually challenging) and never darken the doors of another educational establishment. I really didn’t understand ... more

Advantages Advantages Makes sure you're safe!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Tests!!!

The driving theory test was introduced in July 1996 in an attempt to make Britain's road users safer. Anyone who wanted to drive or ride a motorised vehicle must complete a theory test in the appropriate catagory before they could sit their practical test. Well this is true for cars anyway. For me, turning 17 in May I saw a nice fat cheque from my dad who strictly said that it was for driving lessons only. Fair enough. I cashed it in then started looking for a driving school, knowing that I need to beat my brother (and all my friends at college) who passed first time their theory and practical ... more

Advantages Advantages I Can Help You To Prepare!

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's just going to get harder and harder and harder.....

Now, before you tell me how easy the theory test is supposed to be, times have changed. The theory test is now unbelievably daunting and composed not of a straightforward written test, but a complex touchscreen multiple choice exam and fourteen – yes, fourteen – different hazard perception video clips which require you to spot numerous ‘developing hazards’ and respond on a computer screen at exactly the right second. Once upon a time, when all those family and friends who snigger about the sheer impossibility of failing this took it, they actually used pen and paper. It was a nice n’ easy at ... more

Advantages Advantages Can't think of any

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive, time consuming (or is that a waste of time?), everything basically

THE PROCESS If you are going to be taking your theory test soon or are thinking about taking it here's some things you should know (although you will be told all of this beforehand anyway by the DSA and the centre where you take the test). Firstly, to book a test you can phone 0870 010 1372, or by post using a DSA form (I presume you can get this from your driving instructor or a post office), you can also book online at www.dsa.gov.uk which is where I have booked each time. Click on Book a Theory Test, then book a test, you'll be asked for your surname, date of birth and driving licence ... more

Advantages Advantages It works for me i passed

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Boring and repetitive

I passed my theory test in August 2007, and i was so excited, i prepared myself very well, and i prayed i could pass. How i prepared: To be totally honest i didnt lift a book to prepare for my theory test, i just went online, and i did all the mock tests i could find, and i kept doing them and doing them until i couldnt look another one , and i learnt all the stuff i needed to know and i learnt from the mistakes. I know people read the theory test book, and stuff, but i am awful, any book i lift, i get bored and tired and end up dropping it and sleeping within the half hour, so i knew that ... more

Advantages Advantages Once passed, are allowed to book practical test!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Appointment times can be difficult to fit around work.

The Theory Test.... The theory test, at the time of writing, is a two-part test; the first part consisting of 50 multiple choice questions; and the second part being the hazard perception test whereby you will be shown 14 hazard clips and are asked to identify the hazards by clicking your mouse button. In the multiple choice section you msut get at least 43 questions (out of the 50) correct in order to pass this section, and in the hazard perception section you must get at least 44 points out of a possible 75 in order to pass. You must pass both parts of the test in order to gain a theory test ... more

Advantages Advantages Ensures you have some required knowledge.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hazard perception test is a joke and unrealistic.

My feelings mirror those above. I have been driving for ten years on a normal licence, never had an accident and never had any points, I was taking the LGV theory test. I scored 60/60 on the theory part and then failed the hazard perception. I know I didn't miss any, they're simply to obvious for that but still scored a zero on at least one. I fail to understand how a computer can know the reason for a human clicking a mouse button. The person driving the video camera seemed awfully slow to respond to numerous hazards and reacted much later than I would while driving, examples include sheep in ... more

Advantages Advantages WILL MAKE YOU INDEPENDANT, STRONG WILLED, MOBILE!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages COST OF LESSONS AND BOTH TESTS!

First of all, as everyone who wants to learn to drive will know it can be a very stressful time. I started to learn about six months ago, to begin with I started shopping around for quotes on lessons and was surprised to see how expensive they were £25.00 a lesson, but this didnt put me off, nor should it put you you just need to think to your self is it all going to be wroth it in the end? Every person is different and each individual takes different times to acomplish things, so dont be put off if one of your friend's or collegue's pass way before youve even if you haven't started to think ... more

4 Stars Quick review of Member advice on Passing your Driving Theory Test by Noumanghani 11/08/2007
I have just failed my driving theory test second time and all the time it is hazard perception part. I did practice a lot and what I believe is that it is DSA's strategy to make money as we cant prove it that we are technically right, so they can pass us or fail us, it is up to them.

Advantages Advantages it's relatively easy to pass ... and you can always resit a few times!

Disadvantages Disadvantages £20.50 a pop is a lot to resit, each time!

I'm half way to becoming a driver, watch out Britain!!!!! I passed my theory test yesterday, and never in a million years did I think I would. 32/35 questions and 64 on the hazards! I'm writing this review for one reason, and one reason only. I ONLY passed my theory test because I purchased a CD from Game, on the off chance of it actually helping me. I sat down each night, for at least two weeks with this CD software (sometimes doing as little at 10 minutes on there), thinking that this is all well and good, but none of it will come up in the actual test - but i WAS WRONG!! It came up!! This ... more
