How to look after that first set of pearly whites.

Advantages: Your baby will have a new set of pearly whites to enjoy eating and smiling with.
Disadvantages: Discomfort and fussiness.

A baby's first tooth can turn up at any time; all babies teeth at different ages. Some babies go through teething without any problem and the teeth come through quite fast one after the other or even a few at a time, and for some babies it can take longer, and they may become restless and show more signs of teething. The teething process is quite long, and its takes a while for the tooth to show through. The first tooth usually comes in on average ...
...time for a parent to see that first little tooth. Your baby should have a full set of 20 milk teeth by the time they reach their third birthday. Once you notice the first tooth has started to come through, that is the time to get a baby toothbrush and start brushing the tooth, only water is required at first as there is enough fluoride in the water in most places if you are unsure you can check with your health visitor or doctor. Once your baby is ...

'It will be over soon'....so they tell us!

Advantages: Mmmmm....tricky one...nothing springs to mind!!
Disadvantages: Where shall we start.. sleepless nights, earache, seeing your child in pain.......

My daughter Charlotte is now 7 months old. To be honest, she has been a pleasure and I have loved every minute of every second...Until just recently when for the first time, my beautiful, quiet, happy, contented baby has turned into Satan! Teething is something that you know is going to happen and it's really exciting when it starts because it's the next step but no-one really can prepare you or your child just what they are about to face as every ...
...with my Anti-natal group and we try to get together when we can at one of our houses. All of our children (give or take a few weeks) are the same age and not one of our children are going through teething the same. My good friend's baby cut 6 teeth in the space of 2 weeks without a peep from him! You would never have known he had just had his gums 'split open' to allow these little pegs through! Another is going through absolute hell every night, ...

Gnashers Galore

Advantages: a beautiful cheesy grin
Disadvantages: dribble, screaming, sleeplessness, pain

TEETHING, it will be a time that wither makes you or breaks you. After going through it with 5 children I can honestly say I survived (just!). As with everything every child is different, every situation is different so whilst you maybe a one of the chosen few parents whose children teeth effortlessly your next experience of it maybe the complete opposite. All of my children have been different throughout teething, Josh who is my eldest was an absolute ...
...a happy smily baby.Although he teethed at a relatively early age of 3 months onwards, he never actually had any fever with teething, no screaming sleepless nights the only problem was the nappy rash. It was so bad at one point I thought it would scar him for life, but of course that was the hysterics of a first time mum and a long time ago ( ahh I remember those days, no fighting about who was going to sit where or whose turn it was first!!). So ...

teething.. I promise it does end eventually!

Advantages: Are there any? They learn to Bite you!
Disadvantages: Oh the sleepless nights.................

My son is teething at present. He started at 5 months old. I think it's normal to begin around 6 months but all children are different. Basically with having three children I have tried every potion on the market and then a few! To be honest at teething time I couldn't live without both Bonjela and of course the saviour of the potion world Calpol! Every time my children are ill I think "I should have shares in this stuff". I'm not really a person ...
...at teething time I can't see any harm in giving them a dose, especially at bedtime. If you and the baby don't sleep then you're not at your best in order to cope with the baby, so taking the pain away for them with Calpol occasionally is going to be of benefit to both of you. If I have a headache I will take two paracetamols. And it's just the same, rather than make them cope with the pain. I don't think I would like to cut my teeth again it must ...

Teething What a pain in the...........Mouth

Advantages: No more sloppy food
Disadvantages: do I need to answer?

Everybody knows that at some stage their baby is going to go through the teething stage, but it seems that not many people know when it happens, how it happens, the different stages of teething and how they can help...Pacing up and down the hallway all night with a screaming teething baby is not much fun! Now every baby is different and each baby will teeth at different stages although the average for a first tooth is around 7 months, you may notice ...
...is redder or slightly swollen - but not every baby gets this tale tale sign of teething. Now the good news (sarcastic laugh) there are only 20 primary teeth (first teeth) to break through the gums, don’t panic your not going to have an 8 month baby with a full set of choppers on average your child will have all their teeth around 3 years old. Now the stages these little beauties come through are usually as follows - 6-7 MONTHS~ INCISORS (Two central ...

Oh baby.

Advantages: See above.
Disadvantages: See above.

I will start off by saying sorry if this opinion is in the wrong catogary. My daughter is teething at the moment so I thought I would give you some information about teething. Most babys cut their first tooth at about six months although some babys get teeth before my daughter had two at five months and some babys are born with teeth. Some babys breeze through teething where as others suffer a lot of pain.Your child will not have all of his/hers teeth ...
...You can help your baby but make sure your child is teething and not poorly. One of the first signs your baby is cutting a tooth will be a whiteish bump under the gum other signs are chewing her/his hands, red cheeks, dribbaling, crying, not eating and waking at night.Your baby may begin to pull her/his ears while teething although this could be a sign of an ear infection so its best to see a docter. Your baby will chew on anything she/he is holding while ...

Try Anything Once

Advantages: They all seem to work
Disadvantages: There is no miracle answer

I have a 20 month old daugher who was a slow teether. I tried all the gels and granules but they were all much of a muchness. However, before putting on teething gel try and dry the gum with some tissue, sounds tricky but with a little care and patience you should be able to get a good footing for the gel to hold on to!! Otherwise with a dribbling baby the gel just slips off!! I found granules and Calpol the best combination. The Calpol cools the ...
...pain and the granules back it up and seems to take the babys mind off the discomfort. Although not recommended by any baby books there were times I placed a little gel on a soother and used it to rub onto the gums. I think she got a taste for it and quite looked forward to it!!! Another tip (but no category) when baby gets a cold go and invest in a Boots Vapour machine. It slowly releases a eucalyptus menthol aroma into the room and allows baby ...

What a pain in the mouth!!

Advantages: baby gets to start eating lumpy foods
Disadvantages: too many to list

When i had my daughter in march this year i though that all the hard times were about six months, boy was i wrong. When my little one was six weeks i noticed the wight lines appearing on her gum, I thought there is no way she is teething already so i mentioned to the healthvisitor and she had a look and said no she is still to young for that. A few days later the dribbling started and gradualy got worse and is now at the stage that even with a bib ...
...weeks on and the tooth still wasn't through. This week however while i was feeding her she bit me and cut my skin. I'm so relived that it is finaly through but i'm not looking forward to the next few months as we now have the rest to go. I took my daughter to the healthvisitor this week and she was shocked, she said that she hasn't yet seen a baby with a tooth at 15weeks. It might have only just come through now but i have still had to endure nine ...

The natural way

Advantages: big toothy smiles
Disadvantages: sleepless nights

I have 4 boys and all were completly different when it came to teething - I've had the complete full works of screaming and chewing on anything that would fit in his mouth down to my second oldest waking up one morning with a full set of teeth and I didnt even notice (ok so I'm exagarating a little, but he honestly didnt winge at all!!). With two of the boys I tried everything. Bickie pegs worked for a while although they can get messy and once wet ...
...hygiene front. Calpol, I found they got used to it and after a while it didnt work but my big break through came when i was invited to an aromatherapy party at a friends and discovered chamomile oil. If you put a small amount of neat chamomile oil on a bit of cotton wool and rub on the OUTSIDE of babys cheek where the redness is (where it is hurting) it calms the baby down and relieves the pain. I was a bit wary at first until one night in desperation ...

Cross babies

Advantages: Chewing makes weaning easier
Disadvantages: Cross babies

My son started teething at 3 months. No one warned me how bad it was going to be and that it started this young. He is an adorable little chap and overnight his personality changed. I thought the fairies had come in the night and swapped him. The good news is that it only happens in patches. The bad news: they are usually at night. The tell tale signs are: fractious baby, one red cheek and slobbering (not just a bit, but soaking thier clothes through). ...
...teething rings as he couldn't get them to stop in his mouth. The one thing which he could use were teething beads from Mothercare as they seemed to be easier to manipulate. I used enough Calgel to keep the company afloat. It is useful to use short-term. James loves the flavour of it and would suck it off my fingers. Which leads to a top tip given by a children's nurse: pop some on thier own thumb and they will suck it off and relieve the pain that ...

magic cures dont exist

Advantages: n/a
Disadvantages: n/a

My second daughter has just reached five months old and is very fractious all the time. Teething is probably the cause, as she has been an angel until now. I used all the gels, rings and stuff on my first daughter, but I don't really know if it helped. As for now, hard toys seem to be the order of the day, keep them clean, and keep handing them back when they throw them at you - I dont think that means they dont like them! I think you just have ...

toothy grins all round

Advantages: gives mum, dad & baby a nights sleep
Disadvantages: wish I'd found it earlier

I wrote this review on the boots teething granules page and figured it would be just as helpful here. One of the BIG suprises to me when my little boy started teething was how red raw his bottom became... nothing had prepared me for that or for the pain it would cause him... it seems to happen while the teeth are moving & not when they're cutting thru so it can be the only symptom... so I hadn't expected it to be linked to teething as there was no ...
...read below the two best things that have got me thru nights of constant nappy changing or teeth popping out are boots teething granules & metanium cream. I've found nothing that seems to work as brilliantly or as quickly as teething granules... we tried the gels (I got very sore fingers) we tried bickiepegs (just gathered fluff) we tried teething toys but my son didn't want anything but his fingers or mine in his mouth while teething... but these ...
