Making Dante And Milton Spin In Their Graves
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by RichardW

Advantages: Memnoch's tale is fascinating, and Rice's prose is as Lush as ever.
Disadvantages: So what have the vampires got to do with it then?

...Lord enough already? Yet Memnoch persists, claiming that all is not as it seems. As Lestat allows him to explain, Memnoch takes him to Heaven, into the past to witness the true events of Creation and his Fall, then to the pits of Hell itself. According to this convincing Archfiend, God has been wrong all along, and does not know what he is doing. Memnoch, by contrast, is a champion of humanity, against a callous Creator who does not understand what ... Read review

What God Does Not Want Us To Know
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by HappyBunny

Advantages: Hugely thought-provoking and descriptive novel
Disadvantages: none

...God becoming his “adversary”. Memnoch takes Lestat through time and dimension from the creation of the Universe to the crucifixion of Christ, and from Heaven and Hell. The ideas and perceptions of God within the novel might make uncomfortable reading for some. In ‘Memnoch the Devil’ God is neither omniscient (all seeing and all-knowing) nor self-less. The idea being that the creation of the universe and humans is a form ... Read review

Lestat, my favourite Vampire, fooled again
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by happy_hamster

Advantages: Excellent English and a fascinating story
Disadvantages: Can't find any

...wants to know, so when Memnoch the Devil enters the story and offers us an explanation, we are all charmed. How we love Memnoch the Devil and adore him, how we follow his story and believe him, and find it all logical and the very way we thought it was going to be... The Fallen Angel tells us the story of Creation, he gives a sence to what we always thought, he shows us Heaven and we are about to enter Hell... What we do not know is, the Devil ... Read review

What the devil is Lestat up to now
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by minxette

Advantages: Very satisfying and thought-provoking.
Disadvantages: A lot of info to take in and digest.

...questioned God's plan and also Memnoch fell in love with humanity, and wondered whether God realised the extent of what he made. According to Rice, it was Memnoch who orchestrated the coming of God to Earth in the guise of Jesus; and according Rice Memnoch will one day be allowed back to the arms of his maker. You see, Hell is a place of learning, it's a kind of cosmic painful university and when you graduate you get to go to Heaven. Rice's Hell is ... Read review

A Devil of a Book
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by carolinesite

Advantages: A must for readers of Anne Rice
Disadvantages: A bit bored of the same thing during the middle of the book

This is the fifth book in Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, and her favourite, so she says. I have to disagree, and say that the previous Chronicles were much better. I found myself bored halfway through, and just continued to read it so that I could get it finished. Lestat, our dark hero, after having survived the Body Thief (the fourth Chronicle), finds himself faced with his most amazing offer so far. To go on a tour of Heaven and Hell. ... Read review

God and the Devil do they exist
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by natalie2222

Advantages: makes you think alot about theism and theology
Disadvantages: some readers may not like it if they do not have an interest theology

...told that his name is Memnoch the Devil and that he wants Lestat to join him and help him run Hell and that there is really a God. At first he refuses outrite but as per usual curiosity gets the better of him and thats when the story really starts. The story starts off quite slow at first with Lesat stalking his next victim,a middle age male who is a wealthy criminal, a thief who takes religious aftifacts in ordrer to past them on to his daughter. She ... Ive never seen God like this before
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by zodiakclare

Advantages: If you've never read Anne Rice it will throw you into the deep end
Disadvantages: It is a mind altering read

Memnoch the Devil was the first Anne Rice book I have ever read, and as i've said, it really does throw you into the deep end. We are thrown into the mind boggling world of vampires and body snatching from the very beginning, Rice drawing you into the romantic world of Vampires, blood and emotion. The first pages or so do what i now love Anne Rice's books so much for and that is setting the scene. She writes so beautifully about the haunts of ... Read review

Devine!
Review of Memnoch the Devil: The Vampire Chronicles (Vol 5) - Anne Rice by Misha13

Advantages: Well written
Disadvantages: none

This instalment of the Vampire chronicles finds Lestat in the hands of the Devil. To recruit him, no less! The Devil takes him to heaven, hell, gets him to meet God, and takes him to witness the crucifixion of Christ. This book is different from all the rest of the chronicles, dealing with and altering, the concepts of religion. Eventhough this is a work of fiction, it is definitely food for thought. Will Lestat chose to work in hell, or will he be ... Read review
