Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive to fix is goes wrong, Too many hidden electronics

Well I needed an upgrade from my previous car that apart from the fact that it was a bit girl-y it was also falling to bits. So I decided to ante up and went for the full testosterone upgrade and got a c180. It is P reg one so is almost 10 years old but it is a Mercedes and you can see it. FIRST IMPRESSIONS It is like a tank, everything inside feels humongous. The doors feel heave but close easily but slam with a healthy clank. The engine sounds sweet or should I say works quieter than a mouse stealing some cheese. DRIVING On the motorway this car feels at home. Like leviathan at prehistoric ... more

Hello, Please see attached a letter I have just sent to Mercedes - does anyone else have similar experiences ? Customer Services, Mercedes Benz, DaimlerChrysler UK Ltd Tongwell, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire MK15 8BA 9 August, 2000 Dear Sir, RE: C180 Elegance - registration S393EGC I am writing to express my concern and disappointment with my Mercedes C180 Elegance that I purchased from Geyfords (Tooting, London) in November 1998. I purchased my car for £26,521 in good faith based on the quality, reliability and residual value offered by Mercedes. I am afraid that I must write to you to ... more

When they told me I had a C180 Classic as a company car I was a little underwhelmed. I had images of a very very basic car. When I took delivery of it I was very impressed. The things that hit me first was the feeling of build quality. It seemed to have had many years extra design time spent on it than the Espace. The road noise when driving it is minimal, when driving at the speed limit on a motor way, there is no need to raise voices to talk to the children in the back. One of the standard toys is Anti Skid control (ASR?), this is a great indicator of the road conditions, it stops you ... more

I purchased a white C180 Elegance in Feb this year. It was an N reg 96 model. I have paid out too much for the short time I've had it though. Firstly two weeks after I had bought it I purchased a set of new alloys for it at considerable cost. I took them with the car to a local garage to fit the wheels for me. I came out £100 lighter because I had to replace the rear pads which were down the the metal!. This was the fault of the dealers who sold the car to me who said they had done a pre-delivery inspection. SO if you're thinking of buying a car from Chris Davies car sales of Chesham bear it ... more

Advantages Advantages Good looking car, nice to drive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Interior not up to normal mercedes standard

I've been driving a C180 classic for 2 years now as a company car. It's a good looking car I think, and a viable alternative to the masses of BMW 3 series on the roads. The car drives well and gives a smooth quiet ride. However I've had a rattle coming from the drivers air vent, ever since I took delivery. It goes away for a while whenever I give it a thump! but always returns. I've reported it at services, but obviously it's not been fixed. Also recently the front ash tray has started to rattle, so I have to leave it open. Overall though it's a nice car, but the interior is not up the usual ... more

Mercedes c180 '94 petrol manual, 150k on the clock (owned for 4 months) Mercs are class apart! Very good for its age. A very reliable engine! I did around 1000 miles in one trip in less than 15 hours and the engine showed no sign of fatigue. The maximum it can go is 110 miles/hour. Not very fast for a dash between signals. Its rear wheel drive, if you accelerate a bit too much on a roundabout or turn on a rainy day, you'd seem like Jeremy on Top Gear. No Air conditioner, which means you sweat like a pig in summer! around 24 miles to a gallon in city and around 30 on motorway. I can't think of ... more

The world's worst car? Could it be true? It could well be. This is my company car. It's terrible. I got it new four years ago, so it's the old design. The car is very well insulated. In fact, it's so well insulated that the windscreen ir PERMENTANTLY covered in condensation. Then you decide to switch on the heater to get rid of the condensation. The car is sweatingly hot, you sweat and the windscreen gets more condensation on it. Open the window. The condensation goes, you all freeze to death, oh, and the aerial for the radio gets stuck. Shut the window. Oh no - the car's steamed up. Switch on ... more

    Advantages Advantages Build quality.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small boot, can understeer round corners.

I got this car through work (2000 Y reg)and I had no problems with my C180 Automatic. It is virtually effortless to drive. Just point and press. The size of the engine means it takes a while to get away from the lights but once it's on the motorway it's in it's eliment. Although I had the entry level Classic model it had plenty of goodies: Left and right side climate control. Cruise control and there was also a speed limiter. The limiter works pretty much the same as cruise control. Except you keep your foot on the accelerator to maintain speed. The car will get to the desired speed and stay ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages low boot space and lack of leather seats

The Mercedes C180k has excelled its predecessors as one of the best cars i have ever driven. Bought brand new i was able to enjoy the car as a new experience, it provided me with a much needed breath of fresh air from my other poor choices in cars before The c180 is such an excellent car for a variety of reasons for instance have a low fuel consumption it allows me to drive in urban areas at a very low diesel fuel price at 35 mpg. Also it's handling on the road is simply incredible it is able to hold itself on all terrains from ice to snow whilst being automatic it is even easier to handle ... more

Advantages Advantages It is a Mercedes, Ride quality, overall build

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not an exciting drive, if that is the prime concern buy a BMW

I drove a C180 for six months recently and was exceptionally pleased with the total package that this car provided. The build quality is unsurpassed in anything else I have had the pleasure of driving, for a big car the handling was good although not involving, and even though it is a relatively non powerful car the first wet roundabout caused a couple of exciting seconds as a result of the cars bulk, narrow tyres and rear wheel drive chassis. For motorway cruising I do not think I could think of a better car although I would like to try one with a larger engine. The C180's performance was ... more
