It's a car, it's a tank, ...no it's a Merc

Advantages: The brand, The image, comfort, the feel, sturdiness
Disadvantages: Expensive to fix is goes wrong, Too many hidden electronics

...old but it is a Mercedes and you can see it. FIRST IMPRESSIONS It is like a tank, everything inside feels humongous. The doors feel heave but close easily but slam with a healthy clank. The engine sounds sweet or should I say works quieter than a mouse stealing some cheese. DRIVING On the motorway this car feels at home. Like leviathan at prehistoric valleys. It does 100mph without you even realizing and cruise control coupled with the automatic ...
...that's what being in a Mercedes is all about. MECHANICS There are few things to be careful about though. On the w202 chassis which is the one from 93-01 there are few tings to be careful about when buying. The viscous fan tends to go very lose which was the case with mine and I could also tell from the bonnet having a small bulge from the inside indicating the fan blade had snapped and hit the bonnet. The are not very expensive but will give ...

...I have just sent to Mercedes - does anyone else have similar experiences ? ________________________________________ Customer Services, Mercedes Benz, DaimlerChrysler UK Ltd Tongwell, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire MK15 8BA 9 August, 2000 Dear Sir, RE: C180 Elegance - registration S393EGC I am writing to express my concern and disappointment with my Mercedes C180 Elegance that I purchased from Geyfords (Tooting, London) in November ...
...This entailed a call to Mercedes Emergency Assistance. 3. Sunroof jammed open. This was dealt with by a visit to the dealership. 4. Woking motors whilst valuing our car comment on Geyford's dealership "they have reputation for misleading clients" and showed us a list containing names purporting to be other disgruntled customers. 5. Whilst on route to Geyfords to contemplate changing the C180, the car breaks down with an electrical failure. ...

...car), it's just that the Mercedes looks and feels like a bigger car and I can't help comparing it to an Omega or Scorpio. Prior to the Mercedes I had a Renault Grand Espace, this was fully loaded with every toy imaginable so the Mercedes had a lot to live up to. Befor e the Renault was a Porsche 944 Turbo but that was before the kids came along. ...

Mercedes c180 '94 petrol manual, 150k

Advantages: Realiable, reasonable looks, good handling
Disadvantages: no Air con

Mercedes c180 '94 petrol manual, 150k on the clock (owned for 4 months) Mercs are class apart! Very good for its age. A very reliable engine! I did around 1000 miles in one trip in less than 15 hours and the engine showed no sign of fatigue. The maximum it can go is 110 miles/hour. Not very fast for a dash between signals. Its rear wheel drive, if you accelerate a bit too much on a roundabout or turn on a rainy day, you'd seem like Jeremy on Top ...
...pig in summer! around 24 miles to a gallon in city and around 30 on motorway. I can't think of any problem I had with the car apart from a routine Tracking (wheel alignment and balancing). I never had to spend a pence on repair. Overall a very good and reliable car to own. Not as expensive or difficult to maintain as people think. ...

C180 Would I like to buy another?

Advantages: Comfortable,Stylish
Disadvantages: Niggling failures,Poor extras

...was a major fault because Mercedes in their finite wisdom had NOT built in a manual overide for the immobiliser! I had to call the AA to hotwire the car so I could get it home, and then had to buy two new keyfobs at a price of £55 each!.The car was of the road for 6 days while I waited for the fobs to come from GERMANY! This I found to be ridiculous and the Main dealers were absolutely useless with their lack of knowledge. Lastly,(at the moment anyway!) ...
...of the radiator when it got too hot. I asked the opinion of the main dealers (I don't know why though) Who were as usual as useful as a chocolate fireguard!. Anyway I plumped for the viscous fan which I bought for £65 from German Swedish ( highly recommended ) who beat the main dealers by £30! I had this fitted at a cost of £50 and that has sorted the problem(phew!) The car drives lovely and it sails up and down motorways effortlessly BUT the around ...

The world's worst car? Could it be true? It could well be. This is my company car. It's terrible. I got it new four years ago, so it's the old design. The car is very well insulated. In fact, it's so well insulated that the windscreen ir PERMENTANTLY covered in condensation. Then you decide to switch on the heater to get rid of the condensation. The car is sweatingly hot, you sweat and the windscreen gets more condensation on it. Open the window. ...

C180 Classic

Advantages: Build quality.
Disadvantages: Small boot, can understeer round corners.

I got this car through work (2000 Y reg)and I had no problems with my C180 Automatic. It is virtually effortless to drive. Just point and press. The size of the engine means it takes a while to get away from the lights but once it's on the motorway it's in it's eliment. Although I had the entry level Classic model it had plenty of goodies: Left and right side climate control. Cruise control and there was also a speed limiter. The limiter works ...
...your foot on the accelerator to maintain speed. The car will get to the desired speed and stay there. The doors locked themselves when you set off. The car has a light sensor so as well as having automatic headlights, when you unlock the car in the evening the parking and front fog lights come on which will impress just about anybody. The ride is awesome. Long journies are so relaxing in this car. The suspension soakes up all the bumps and potholes ...

What a solid car.

Advantages: It is a Mercedes, Ride quality, overall build
Disadvantages: Not an exciting drive, if that is the prime concern buy a BMW

I drove a C180 for six months recently and was exceptionally pleased with the total package that this car provided. The build quality is unsurpassed in anything else I have had the pleasure of driving, for a big car the handling was good although not involving, and even though it is a relatively non powerful car the first wet roundabout caused a couple of exciting seconds as a result of the cars bulk, narrow tyres and rear wheel drive chassis. For ...
...a better car although I would like to try one with a larger engine. The C180's performance was adequate, I think if you own one you aren't going to want to race anyone away from traffic lights (which is fortunate bearing in mind it's initial acceleration performance), however when up and running it is smooth and will accelerate away adequately for overtaking in the right gear. A friend of mine had an automatic and whilst the manual gearbox is not ...

Advantages: Interior, look, smooth riding, air conditioning!
Disadvantages: Nothing!

My dad has recently purchased a merc and it is the C180 and i just thought i would write an opinion on how quality it is! The leather interior that it contains is top notch and really comfortable!! I mean lasting a 12hr journey in it was easy! The CD player which comes standard with it is brilliant! Its a 5 CD change! The car drives so smootly its unbelievable! Its spaceous and has alot of leg room! It has good boot space and I would advise everyone ...

steer clear of Mercedes Benz Direct

Advantages: Nice ride
Disadvantages: Poor customer Service from Merecedes Benz Direct &Merc UK

...reassurance, I had been visiting Mercedes ' UK site's used car section which usually links directly to the dealer. However, occasionally, you get linked to Mercedes Benz Direct which is some kind of subsidiary of Mercedes UK. If you want to know the price, you need to register and give your phone number. One Friday, they rang me twice and went on about the 100s of cars that have just come on the market@ their Hemel Hemstead branch and could I get ...
...them, keep well clear of Mercedes Direct. They are nothing more than glorified Arthur Daileys. They probably deal with the dogs that main dealers can't sell and as for their checks, I think they probably don't do all of them and deal with any probs as and when they arise. If you want a Merc, my advice is go to a main dealer (which means only newer expensive cars- and no guarantee of good service given my experience with their affiliate) or buy privately ...
