Advantages Super graphics, gripping plot, fantastic environments, exciting soundtrack, mostly-great dialogue
Disadvantages Perhaps slightly too short

Every so often a game will appear carrying months (and occasionally years) of hype and anticipation on it's shoulders. Some deliver the goods, and become regarded as classics (Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill), whilst others stumble over their reputations whilst in development (Soul Reaver, Driver 2 and Tomb Raider 3 among countless others) and never quite deliver what they promise. Metal Gear Solid thankfully is one such game that belongs to the former group - not just terrifically enjoyable, but also technically fantastic when released on the PSOne back in 1999. Metal Gear Solid is an amazing game about a soldier codename Solid Snake who is a retired veteran of war. He is a very mysterious person, who has a lot of secrets that he doesn't want anyone to know about, he is afraid to open up to anyone, because he is scared of getting hurt. Anyway, taking on the role of Snake you are assigned to a special mission: to stop Metal Gear from launching Nuclear Weapons, and killing everyone. Benchmark Game -- Metal Gear Solid 30/09/2001

Advantages Varied weapons, enemies, great graphics, cut scenes 10/10
Disadvantages Cut scenes can be repetitive, um changing of the two discs is annoying – really it’s a great game.

Metal Gear Solid is an interactive action movie. Hideo Kojima is a movie buff and you can tell from the opening cut scenes. Throughout the game Full Motion Videos (FMV) is used to join the various stages, you can turn off the subtitles, which make this game seem more and more similar to the movies. Unlike games such as Final Fantasy voice-overs are provided and add to the overall quality of the game. Advantages Graphics, gameplay, drama, lots of re-play potential, very clever set-pieces
Disadvantages possibly a little short

The basic storyline is that terrorists have threatened to launch a nuclear warhead within hours, unless the US government release "Big Boss'" remains from some years ago, and you - Solid Snake have to infiltrate their defences (Based in Alaska) in order to find out more information on the terrorists and save a prisoner they have taken hostage. I’m always dubious when people call a game a classic but I think for once they’ve got it right. To begin with I can’t say MGS sucked me in. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t one of those games you could be bothered playing when you weren’t (if that makes any sense?). However after the first boss fight, that’s where it all began to change. Plot: You are Solid Snake, a Special Forces operative, called back to duty for the purpose of infiltrating a heavily guarded Alaskan stronghold. Advantages Gameplay, feeling a part of the action, sounds, the details like the breath in the cold air, the originality of the plot.
Disadvantages sometimes a little too dark and cold in it's 'feeling'

You are Solid Snake, hero of this Action/Strategy game Series. You must save the world singlehandedly. And if caught, all knowledge of your actions will be denounced. Any of this seeming familiar? James Bond (whom this game tips its hat to a few times) meets Mission:Impossible. On your Sony Playstation. I sat on the floor, completely dumbfounded, and in awe, of what I'd just witnessed. I'd just completed Metal Gear Solid. How can a mere video game bring so much...enjoyment?!?!? This game was...there's no words to describe it. I liked playing games, but only as something to pass the time, and I wasn't a gaming addict, as I am now. Then, I played Metal Gear Solid. I couldn't stop playing it. Once I got past one bit, I had to do the next. The plot in this game was as good as any movie I'd ever seen, honestly! Metal gear solid is a great game with a great storyline and great graphics. INTRO You play as Solid Snake, a retired Tactical Espionage guy, who is forced to go to an Island and find an atomic weapon (metal gear) and stop it being launched. Along the way you will find Meriyl, A soldier who just happens to be the bosses daughter! You have contact to the Boss and other people via a CODEC (video phone thingie) GRAPHICS Metal Gear Solid (MGS)has great cutscenes, especially near the start of the game. Solid Snake is a natural star and not at all shamed with his stupid name, he's also the kind of character that takes nothing and is an action kind of man that the gameing world depend on. He's the best thought up character since Lara Croft, and before you know it you'll be complaining about who should be S. Snake in the Metal Gear Solid: The movie ( either Kurt Russel or Bruce Willis in my opinion).
