    BACKGROUND ******************** I just recently discovered Micro-direct while I was looking into buying a LCD TV. I have been buying stuff over the net for a while, and although usually I buy stuff on Ebay, I do not like to buy big electronics on that site.     Advantages Advantages Low prices, quick delivery, acceptable customer service.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Refurbished products may have a higher fault probability, returns process can be a little slow.

    I ordered a 26" Flat screen TV from Micro Direct, before having read all these so-called 'horror stories' about how terrible they were. The price was brilliant, and the delivery time was very good- if interrupted a little due to a bank holiday weekend, although that was beyond Micro Direct's control. So in theory, everything to that point had gone brilliantly. However unfortunately, the TV began to have technical faults after 20 days of purchase, which was a disappointment to say the least.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Disgraceful customer service, illegal returns process, everything else

    Summary Good points * Delivered correct product on time * They occasionally have the best price Bad points * Incompetent and discourteous staff * Extremely slow refund process * Emails frequently ignored (excluding the standard auto-"we love you so much"-replies) * They try hard to avoid complying with basic consumer laws (and succeed unless you're prepared to go to court) * Legally questionable sale/return tactics * Apparently poor internal staff communication Overall I'd give them less than one star if I could although zero stars may be a bit harsh because even despite their mountain of ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Dishonest, Poor telephone skills, Promise the earth and give nothing.

    Micro Direct I bought a barebones PC (case and motherboard) this was a 40th birthday present that I bought with the money I was given. The PC was fine until the very beginning of May when it randomly stop working with no output for the monitor. I requested the machine be returned to Micro Direct under the guarantee and was told if their engineer could not find the fault , the machine would have to be sent back to the manufactures in Korea and it was likely to take 4 to 6 weeks. I was told that indeed the machine did have faults and that I would now have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for the machine to ... more

    Being a bit of a computer nutter i for many years have been searching for a supplier of new computer components. I have tried many some with not so good results. But then i found microdirect and have been a customer of theirs for many years. Microdirect is based in Manchester and supplies top quality computer components and systems. It is the first place look when i am upgrading or building my machines.     I'm an advanced computer user that demands cheap, high quality components from people that I can trust with my money. There are various companies that i invest my trust in and one of my favourites are ebuyer and the store that i am reviewing, microdirect. Microdirect are a stockist of various computer and electronic components based in Manchester on Upper Brook Street and in Umist whereby they only stock a few computer essentials. You have been warned :) My mission, should I choose to accept it, was to build a decent computer (base unit only) for £300.or under.     I placed an order via the Micro-Direct website on the 13/08/2004 at 16:01:35, and chose Saturday AM Delivery, which it told me was the Business Priority order to be delivered by Amtrack. It also told me that I would receive confirmation via e-Mail, which I did not until many hours later... I tried sending 3 or 4 e-Mails to different departments, checking that it would be delivered today.. still no reply. I tried ringing the Retail Sales, was in the queue with that annoying loud music, FOR HALF AN HOUR, and then got cut off.     A week before Christmas I decided to treat myself to a spanking new Cherry keyboard - but could only find one supplier that stocked them - Microdirect. I duly placed my order (remembering that I had had issues with them before, but thought it worth a go). On the 24th December a keyboard arrived - but it was the wrong model!! The invoice was made out to the correct - and twice as expensive model, but the idiot packer had obviously still been suffering from the office party!     Having decided to purchase a new small form factor pc for my home network, I did a lot of searching on the internet for a company that had all of the components that I required so that I could order them all from the same place. I eventually settled on Micro Direct, as they had all of the components that I was looking for, had a reasonable web site and were localish to me (I try and support local businesses where I can).
