...is made by computer giants Microsoft and is widely used around the world.
*Optical Technology*
The mouse uses optical technology, an advancement on the traditional mouse ball system. An optical sensor located on the bottom of the mouse, replacing the ball, tracks movement and then relays this to the cursor on the monitor. The sensor appears a bright red colour if you turn the mouse over. This technology, means that you don't need to have mouse ... ...is a matt black. The Microsoft logo appears on the nose and the product details and specifications appear on the underside on a sticker. The mouse feels very comfortable on the hand. The top surface is nice and smooth and the overall shape fits the palm perfectly. It is designed to accommodate both left and right handed users, as the buttons can be changed around to suit the user’s needs.

...but when I saw this Microsoft basic optical mouse for £19.99 I thought I might as well just get it then. So I did.
This mouse is compatible with Microsoft windows XP, 2000, ME, 98 and windows NT. It has no mouse ball, and wheel scrolling
which is comfortable for both right or left handed users.

Make sure that the computer is turned off. Remove the old mouse from the back of the computer and plug this mouse in. It really is as easy as that. It can be used in a round mouse port using the adapter that is supplied with the mouse to plug it into your PS/2 port or it can be used in a USB connector.
Using it
The mouse is used in just the same way as you would use any other. It does feel different to my old mouse because I could ...

...he kindly passed on a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse the supplies department finally got to him a week before he left.
The mouse came in a standard bubble plastic case which was horrendously difficult to open. Inside were the mouse, an instruction manual, and a CD with the mouse driver. The mouse has a USB plug but also comes with a standard 'mouse' plug adapter if you don't have a (spare) USB port.
The guy opposite kindly plugged me in. I'm using ... ...and didn't require a reboot. There was no need to use the CD disk, the standard mouse drivers were enough.
I could not believe the difference. Instead of fiercely gripping the mouse and repeating strokes to force it along, the mouse now just glides along the desk effortlessly with only the need of a gentle nudge. I didn't realise just how hard I'd been gripping the ball mouse. It took me a few minutes to get the pointer under control I was oversteering ...

Advantages: Very functional and easy to use Disadvantages: Still has a wire
The mouse, the humble little mouse, so often neglected and ignored and taken for granted, and yet so absolutely vital for a decent computing experience.
Now, we all know what the mouse is all about, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this, but just for completeness I’ll give you the basic facts.
The mouse (or any kind of pointing device for that matter) is one of the most essential parts of the interface between man and machine. You use the keyboard ... ...instinctive little tool you use to navigate your way round applications to select and enter and all other good things.
In the very early days of PC’s, you could get by without a mouse but they quickly became absolutely vital for a complete computing experience, but they didn’t tend to be very good or user friendly. The wire would get in the way or the roller ball inside the mouse and the wheels it activates would get all gunked up with the debris ...

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: laggs with dust
I recently bought this mouse from PC world, it was so I could use a mouse on my laptop as I did not like the laptop built in mouse. As soon as I unwrapped it and revealed the mouse itself I knew it was a solid traditional mouse. I plugged it in, and as hoped worked instantly.

The mouse appeared to be fine and as it was optical I had no trouble with dirt clogging, as it does not pick up dirt on the mouse ball. This is a fantastic feature as it was one of the main problems from my old mouse was that it was hard to use.
The classic two button design is pretty efficient and does what it is supposed to do, I can't really make much of a comment on the mouse because ...

...and size as any traditional microsoft mouse and fits into the hand very easily. The scroll-wheel is constructed with firm rubber which is soft to touch and ribbed to make quick scanning of web-pages and word documents an absolute doddle.
The mouse is compatible with USB and USB2 and is as responsive to movement as anyother mouse. Sensitivity and scroll speed can be calibrated via the computer but only at their most basic levels.
The 'feet' of the ... ...superior to many other optical mouses I have experienced the use of. When the mouse is lifted a certain distance from its operating surface, it automatically senses this and diverts the funky red beam to avoid dazzling anyone.
The mouse looks great in its full black attire but seeing as this is such a basic item purchased for use at work, this was not really a major concern when I bought it.
At under £10 (I purchased mine for £9.99) you can't go ...

...new version 2 of the Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse that looks like this: http://www.microsoft.com/canada/fr/mac/otherproducts/images/m18_BOM.jpg - and overall its a fantastic basic mouse that is sure to last for years.

Advantages: easy to install and use Disadvantages: not many features
If you are looking for a basic mouse will a scroll wheel then look no further.
Optical mice have obvious advantages over the traditional ball ones, dudt and other such stuff cannot get get trapped in the moving parts (there aren't any) anf they can be used on almost any surface.

The software that came with the mouse was easy to install and use on xp, it allows all the usual features such as double click time and also the ability to set the buttons to different functions.

Advantages: User friendly, works on all surfaces Disadvantages: Only see them sell in blue or black.. why not red or green?
I do believe there are many mouse’s out there that just don’t cut it. They move about fine, but poor for gaming or detailed work like photo editing where sensitivity of the mouse is important.
I bought a version of this mouse a while back, but was in blue... Cost me £39’99 and now I’ve seen them go for less that £15. But, I would still pay £39’99 again as it is a top class mouse. I’ve tried wireless mouse’s and personally, they don’t match up to ... ...within games. I noticed on this mouse though, the length of wire was longer than the usually by 4 or 5 inches. This helps when your case is ether at the side of your desk on the floor, or underneath your desk as mine is.
I noticed some laser/optical mouse’s have problems with shiny services, like laminated desks, polished desks, plastic mouse mats that have glitter, pictures on them. The laser just doesn’t work right & your mouse just wont move ...

Having bought the Microsoft basic optical mouse at pc world 4 days ago, I have to say i'm back from the stone age as this is my first optical mouse.
