...I came to own a Microsoft IntelliMouse. Well the people on the Customer Service desk in PC World took one look at it after I told them my story of trying to buy a working mouse and told me I could have a refund or exchange it for a new mouse. I decided to take a look at their choice of mice in the hope of exchanging it.

It has the normal left and right buttons on the top and the front and the scroll wheel is located between these two. The on ...

The Microsoft Intellimouse comes packaged well, in a nice sturdy red box with a clear window so you can see what you're buying. The mouse itself is an undeniably foxy little thing; it has a nice ergonomic shape so that unlike my old mouse it fits comfortably in your hand. It isn't quite so simple as just plugging in the mouse and carrying on as usual, as it uses the USB port rather than the mouse port (though it can be converted if you are already using all your USB ports, but remember you will lose a certain amount of the efficiency ...

...latest addition to my increasingly Microsoft orientated PC (i love hating them, but they do have good stuff every now and then) was the Intellimouse Optical.
Its pretty much the next step (dare i say?) forward in terms of their intellimouse range. For starters, it comes as a USB mouse. ...the other day, it's a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical. Hey, this was the mouse I was going to buy myself instead of my Logitech Optical mouse that I bought. Microsoft make good mice, theres no denying that. They are the leader in the field of mice and probably will be for a long time, with Logitech following closely behind. There was nothing wrong with the basic 'Dell' mouse he already had on his computer, he just wanted a wheel mouse, and Microsoft was the one he went for. The ...

TrueSatan left a message in my guestbook that the intellipoint software supplied with this mouse had fatal flaws in it, andit will break down if you try to upgrade it (see my guestbook for further details). The ball kept sticking, and after about two months of use the left button snapped! So it was now time to buy a new mouse!
My requirements for a new mouse were these: An optical sensor, a scroll wheel, a branded make, and programmable buttons. After an hour searching PC World, I came up with the Intellimouse Explorer.
This mouse was about £40, which is a bit more expensive than most mice/trackballs. ...

Advantages: Smooth mouse movement, extra buttons, good scroll-wheel Disadvantages: Can get a little stuck with fluff on the bottom.
I got this mouse about a month ago, because of all the good things I had heard about it, and I have not been disappointed, even with the £40 price tag.
It uses a light which is projected from the bottom of the mouse, to the surface that it is on, to scan it's position every few fractions of a second, and it works really well. You get no slightly jumpy mouse movement, it is all exact and smooth to use. You also notice that the red light dulls down ... ...little bit of energy, which is quite good.
You get 4 buttons on the mouse, including your usual bog-standard left and right buttons, but as well as this, you get 1 either side of the mouse, which are in a good position, because this is where you fingers are anyway, so you are not slightly inconvenienced by using them. These two extra buttons can be programmed however you like because the mouse comes with it's own drivers, you could use these buttons ...

Advantages: No mouse ball to clean. Works on most surfaces. Disadvantages: Expensive.
The Microsoft Intellimouse Optical is a beautiful mouse - curves in the right places, lovely and red underneath with a wheel you can stroke on top.
This mouse cost me about £35 at the time. My old 'ball. mouse was having terrible trouble finding it's way around - despite various attempts to clean it, it had a mind of it's own. Frustration grew to the point where it would get slammed down on the table if it didn't comply with my requests.

Advantages: No Ball, Shiney Red Light, Responcive, Accurate Disadvantages: Costs a little more than the average mouse
I picked up my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical a couple of years ago now (back in 2000), prior to that I had been happily pointing a clicking with my trusty Microsoft Mouse 2.0.
It wasn’t that I needed a new mouse especially, its just I was upgrading my PC at the time, and having used ‘standard’ mice for over a decade I was getting tired of having to deal with ball problems (also it had shiny red light).
