...One step taken by Microsoft to try and get people to register, and also to try and reduce the amount of pirate copies in circulation, has been the fact that you must register the software to be able to use it, otherwise you will receive a nag screen every time you use Office XP and it will cease working after 50 uses. Advantages: None really - just a good suite if you don't already have one Disadvantages: Expensive, no significant new features
...XP, the latest tool from Microsoft is one of the least exciting pieces of software I have ever come across. It is both expensive, and not much different from Office 2000, and if you already have Office 2000, there is no point upgrading. However, now for the serious review…

~WHATS NEW?~
Not a lot. Honestly. There are only a few things that are different, the first being the look. The toolbars and menus no longer have chunky lines around them, and the splash screen at the start has changed a little. As far as new features goes, there is something called a task pane, which contains options for your current document, as I write this in ...

...new to tempt you into Microsoft Office XP.
Firstly, they have been rather clever in the anti-piracy stakes. As you purchase your Office package, install it on your PC, you then need to ‘activate’ it. It will allow you to get started immediately and not activate if you wish but you only have 50 launches, so as you are nearing your deadline it prompts you to log on (or call) and activate the disks. This means that the disks are only for ... ...but there are certain niggles, Microsoft seemed to have tried very hard to put these right this time. Firstly, they surveyed lots of people about their niggles and found the dratted office assistant was by far the worst thing about the package!! We all hate the little paperclip! In Office XP, the office assistant is still there but you have to go and turn him on yourself if you like him, he will never appear of his own accord…saying ”it ...

Advantages: Faster and fancier Disadvantages: Price
It's not like Microsoft to give something for nothing, in fact it's usually the oposite. We are normally made to pay over the odds for something which is not much of an improvement on the earlier versions, but I have been using Office XP for about a month now and I am pleased with it - especially as it was free. Microsoft word
Microsoft word is extremely useful piece of software. Microsoft word allows you to do a number of things and is useful for a number of reasons:
It allows you to type extensively and you have to ability to alter text colour, font, and add bullet points and numbering.
You can change margins and there is a wide variety of fonts to choose form.

Microsoft excel
Microsoft excel is also extremely useful.Once opened you will see a blank spreadsheet in front of you.

Advantages: Outlook 2002 now quite fast downloading mail. Speech recognition seems accurate. Easy to use as its almost identical to Office 2000 Disadvantages: Too pricy for Office 2000 users
...pleased to see that the Microsoft Reader add on that I had previously was still present. I have had a go at the speech recognition and it seems okay and works well. I may be tempted to actually use it in anger to write my next publication. I was intrigued by the facility to insert fancy diagrams and the ease that they can be messed about with, but there are only six offerings, which seems rather mean. Not many of my documents are going to have them ... ...much use. Powerpoint 2002 is enhanced but again familiar in operation. I did like the improved animation and slide transitions. It gives more scope for keeping the audiance awake durring mind numbing lectures. In fact, the next slide presentation I attend, with no enhancements, I will challenge, as there is now no excuse with this part of Office XP.
But the price for this whole package is nothing short of ludicrous and if you are using Office 2000 ...

Advantages: Very modern, new look, fast, reliable, runs like a dream, brilliant in retrospect. Disadvantages: Non that I can think of but it is very expensive.
Microsoft Office XP is the latest of the Microsoft Office Family and precedes Office 2000, which although fast, was unreliable. We recently came upon Microsoft Office XP (2002) from a friend and it was love at first try out! Loading up on Windows Millenium, it works on our computer like a dream. Fast and Reliable.

This review is based on the preview version of XP but it's the same as the final product. Office XP comes with Word 2002, Excel 2002, PowerPoint 2002 and (optionally) Access 2002. There will also be new versions of FrontPage and Publisher. Notice the 'XP' moniker for the suite and the '2002' moniker for the individual programs. The programs look much the same as Office 2000 at first glance since the user interface hasn't changed much (less 3D look ... ...with previous versions but (initially) disappoint people who want lots of new features. The file formats are compatible with Office 2000 (which is compatible with Office 97). But there have been many changes under the surface. The programs load more quickly - like lightening on my Athlon 750MHz - and the software is very stable. In fact it has new auto-recover features for both applications and data so that if your system does crash it *really* does ...

Advantages: Loads of new features Disadvantages: Pricy
After just reformatting my laptop I decided that I put the best software I could on it.
First I put on XP Professional (which it great). Then I have to decide what word processor and document creator I should use.
I found that Office XP was the latest one out and then saw the professional version. At £550 I was beginning to regret saying the best software. I reluctantly passed over my credit card and walked home with XP Office Pro with publisher.
... ...Outlook and excel) I was greeted with the normal Office start up and installed everything except Outlook (I use Express). Now for Publisher. I put the disk in and up came a message saying I needed to use the add office thingy (OK it didn’t say thingy). I thought this meant going into Add/Remove Programs and clicking on change for XP Office Pro but this didn’t work. Eventually I found that you have to go to add program and then click on the use CD ...

Microsoft Office XP's empowering document design tools, integration of voice recognition functionality, and impressive network- and Web-based sourcing capabilities should be enough to convince those interested in saving time and consolidating effort to take the leap. Advantages: Looks very very nice Disadvantages: Not a large improvement
Personally I found Microsoft Office 2000 to be a let down, that the program had to open a whole new window for each new document was irritating to say the least. Office 97 kept everything together in one neat window, allowing you to switch through views there. Office XP hasn't reverted back to that format, which is a shame. XP certainly looks the part, the white and grey with blue highlights makes the package very pretty. For functionality this package ... ...page would not use XP to do so, all the options might make it easier but it still mangles html. I don't see XP as being a significant improvement over 2000 or 97. Just as Windows 98 changed very little from 95. The progams take a while to open, and set up, and this isn't on a slow machine. Unless a user is going to be intensively using this suite of programs there is no reason to upgrade from 2000 or 97, they'll do the job just fine. ...

Advantages: easy to use and install, not as dull as previous versions Disadvantages: too much space taken up, a bit slow
...is the lack of the Microsoft office car game which is found in excel 2000. If you don’t know how to get this then look at my opinion on excel 2000. the absence of this ‘program’ which at first site seems to look ‘rubbish’ becomes very addictive especially when you are so bored trying to work out how to work out a formula for your very important spreadsheet.
One another thing which makes it hard for me to use office xp is that it takes up more memory ... ...old but has a measly b4 mb of ram and 8.4 GB of hard disk space. Office xp with all its features took up 1 GB of space.
The only positive thing I can say I that I have experienced since upgrading to office xp is the fact that it is slightly easier to use and looks more colourful (well its less boring than 2000).
I recommend that if you have office 2000 don’t upgrade otherwise I would say that although it has been priced a bit higher than I expected, ...

Microsoft appears to have made this version a lot faster than Office 2000, which is definitely a plus point. They have also added new-look totally customisable menus which adapt to what you use the most.
