5 Stars Windows 7 - The Best OS Yet! Review with images 31/08/2009

Advantages Advantages Great new toolbar, excellent personalisation, overall brilliant design

Disadvantages Disadvantages Really similar to Vista.

My first ever Ciao review. In July, I downloaded the Release Candidate of Windows 7 to evaluate the new operating system and I have to say it's the best version of Windows yet! It surpasses Vista in every way. Windows 7 is not available yet but I'm encouraging all Vista uers to upgrade in October as soon as the software is released. In the rest of my review I will outline some of the key features. For starters, the toolbar has been changed dramatically. In previous versions of windows, the active windows (i.e. open programs and applications) would appear seperately as tabs with the symbols and ... more

Advantages Advantages smooth, quick, easy to install and use, pretty to look at, simplified for the masses

Disadvantages Disadvantages Vista should have been like this - Microsoft robbed us!

Windows 7 makes Windows Vista feel like a beta. That’s my philosophy. It was my philosophy before I bought Windows 7 and it’s still my philosophy now. That’s where the “it looks like Vista” comments come from. Windows 7 is Vista without all the rubbish. Everything people moaned about in vista is gone (or improved) and 7 is more spangly and all singing and dancing. It looks better, runs more smoothly and is simple to use. You might even say its been dumbed down for the masses. Simplified. It’s a pleasure to use. It loads more quickly than Vista and is aesthetically pleasing as it does so. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Works well. robust and resilient, user friendly.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The upgrade took time and needs to be left alone to do its job. Do not interrupt!

My father, a venerable old gentleman of 79 years at the time decided to buy a laptop from Aldi, and surprise me. He had no experience of computers, but wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It was one of the first laptops shipped with Vista, and my first viewing. Vista seemed like a different beast and Microsoft had shuffled some of the functionality, but it appeared very slick if cumbersome. The laptop was shipped with 1 gb of ram, and a 1.6mhz pentium processor and it struggled to do anything. After upgrading to 2gb, it was slighlty better, but I was resigned to it being a poor ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough variation from vista, no desktop button

Windows 7 Review With the recent release of the new Microsoft operating system windows 7 many people believe windows vista will be forgotten about with its constant security alerts and lack of user options. The new operating system has many new features which I will run through now. Firstly the new taskbar down at the bottom is a lot easier on the eye as it no longer has any text whatsoever, instead Microsoft have opted to use just the logo of the software the user currently has running. Another improvement to the taskbar is the ability to lock items to the task bar which is a replacement of ... more

Advantages Advantages Works well, has a nice look, and is very user friendly.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing! (So far...)

Windows 7! As I quietly type across my slim keyboard on top of a beautiful interface, I can definitely say this is a very top notch operating system! After being burned by Vista, I was afraid to go back into Windows 7, but I heard some friends talk about rather positively, so I decided to try it out. My XP computer finally died on me, which was sad, but now I'm glad that happened. (Luckily, I was able to save everything on the hardrive!) I picked up a new HP computer about 6 months ago and have never looked back. First off, setting up Windows 7 was quite easy to do, I was able to get ... more

Advantages Advantages Ease of use, Better use of application, Aero features, XP Mode, much much more

Disadvantages Disadvantages possibility of loosing data when upgrading

After the introduction, and to be frank, complete flop of Windows Vista, Microsoft were quick to jump back with Windows 7. After doing a little bit of research, I thought it would be a good idea to give it a try, so we bought the Home Premium family pack for an extremely reasonable price of £149.99 (considering that a single licence was £79.99). After backing up my Hard Drive (I would recommend doing this in case you loose some of your data due to the installation, it can be done very easily simply by copying and pasting your documents, pictures, videos etc. either onto a series of Memory ... more

Advantages Advantages Runs really fast, Some very good features, any decent machine can run it.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The Price. It looks like vista and it really is just a brush up on the old OS

Windows 7 has been said by Microsoft as being much improved and everyone would be happy with the end result. But is it really better, below is my review of a few sections which I believe is most important and compare it to older versions. Speed: 9/10 Much faster than Vista. To compare with the Vista OS, on Vista it took around 30 secs to 45 secs to boot up and log me in. Now on Windows 7 it takes 20 - 30 secs to boot up. Shut down is also so much faster. Vista = 15 secs... Windows 7 = 5 secs..... So there is a huge improvement. Also when running programs or browsing the internet you feel like ... more

Advantages Advantages Simple, Easy to use, No unnecessary Microsoft clutter like in Vista

Disadvantages Disadvantages Basic Shortcuts have been changed, such as CTRL+N for new folder doesn't work anymore

Windows 7 is the way vista should have been. Microsoft have actually done it with this one. It doesn't hang, or sulk when things are going bad. It doesn't randomly lock up and it makes using a computer enjoyable again. As most people have seen the adverts, you must be well aware of the snap functions, and the automatic sorting of media files and documents. But some of the small things have gone unnoticed. Such as: * When downloading something, or installing, W7 can detect most program's current % of completion and will graphically display it on the task bar with a green bar that progressively ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages nothing yet!

I bought Windows 7 Home premium for 80 pounds in Heathrow airport because my laptop (Dell M1530) was just unbelievably slow. I loaded windows 7 on and now it is faster than ever! It comes loaded with Internet Explorer 8 but i have fallen in love with Google Chrome so i use that instead. 80 pounds is a lot to pay to speed your computer up but it is definitely much cheaper than a new laptop. It looks quite a bit better than Windows Vista and has a few new cool features. The SNAP features allows you to view to windows on one screen. just drag one window to one side and another to the other side ... more
