Advantages: looks great, easy to use, nice new taskbar, high compatibility Disadvantages: cost is still high
I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate. I had not minded Windows Vista as much as other people; my computer has a 2.13GHz dual core processor and 4GB of RAM. Windows 7 doesn't actually seem to be any faster, but it has some better features and is overall easier to use. It took about 2 hours to upgrade, which isn't bad but it's not amazingly fast. It runs all of my programs that ran under Vista no problem, and some of ... ...Vista. I haven't found anything that doesn't work after upgrading. I still recommend that you run the "Windows 7 upgrade advisor" first just to make sure. The new taskbar looks a bit different, but don't be worried, you'll get used to it, and once you do you'll find out that it's a big improvement. Programs no longer have text, just larger icons in squares. Instead of quick launch you have to "pin" items to the taskbar, which basically means they're ...

Advantages: Faster, good networking with other Windows machine, so far it has not crashed. Disadvantages: price, best to do a fresh install which will involve backup & restore of information
Having read much of the hype on Windows 7 I decided to test out this new operating system by upgrading an old laptop. Looking though my cupboard of hardware I found an old IBM Thinkpad. Single Core processor with 1 GB of RAM (circa 2003).
My first pleasant surprise is that just about all of the devices (mouse, speakers, WI-FI) etc worked out of the box. Windows 7 seemed to have the right drivers needed to bring them to life. I also noted that the ... ...why).
Anyway, having built the basic machine, I then installed office. This was easy and I certainly noticed that Office worked faster on Win 7 then Vista.
One other major benefit was the networking. My laptop was discoverable on my home network and it was very easy to connect to it and transfer files. ...

Advantages: A lot more stable than vista Disadvantages: Costs a fair bit of money unless you shop about and find it on offer
Well after asking for this topic to be added i might as well get posting on it. I have just put this on my system the all improved RC that has just hit MS website and many other places where you can download it one of the first versions to come out in beta was the 7000 version and many things didn't work with it and had many problems for stuff working on it. I have since moved on and got the RC version and so far so go there is not many problems ... ...not quite complete but for them to bring out RC so soon makes me wounder how long its before on the market for everyone to buy and get there hands on a full copy. I have been using the RC for about 48hrs no problems with sound gfx or any other drivers as most sites now are updating to make room for the next OS. Is packed with many new features and more stable and a lot faster than vista. Its a shame i dont have a touch screen or i would be putting ...

Windows 7 ultimate.
This is fantastic. SO easy to use and looks great!!!
I used to run vista, which we all know is awful, so i thought lets upgrade. Im incredibly glad i did. The home screen looks very clean cut and easy to use. I especially like the "hover" function where you hover your mouse over the open programs on the task bar. This tool allows you to get a screen shot of exactly whats going on with each screen. Great idea!!!
The instalation ... ...Anyone with some common sense can do it. The basic idea of w7 is the speed of xp with the features of vista. I half agree, it looks quite different to vista but there is a hint of it but it definatley is quick.
I have not had a single problem with running w7, none of the ones that have been mentioned on other sites although its still early days. a lot more reliable than vista and a lot less bland than xp. The overall feel is a lot better than most ...
