Advantages: Simple to use OS with lots of built in features Disadvantages: Expensive when their are lots of free solutions available
Server 2003 is by no means revolutionary, and is more of an incrementla upgrade to Windows Server 2000. It does add some updated features, such as IIS 6 and a better implementation of Terminal Services.
For novices, Server 2003, and all Windows Server products are usually just for Network Server machines, for managing clients, and for providing access to resources. It needs major tweaking to play games on!
It does what it says on the tin, and does ... ...implementation of Terminal Services allows it to bolt onto Citrix well.
For those using Server 2000 however, it is probably worth jumping Server 2003 straight to the forthcoming Server 2008 (Longhorn).
The standard edition of Server 2003 is suitable for all but the largest of orgaisations> If you have a large multi-forrest enterprise or a datacentre, then it may be worth getting a more expensive version. ...

Advantages: Fast, easy, reliable, quick to learn Disadvantages: Wont upgrade from XP, Problematic from 2000 server
This is a nice fast clean server upgrade, i have been using 2003 for a while now and it is a lot better than 2000, 2000 was stable but with the addition of Citrix it is a lot nicer!
To set anything up it is just one click and away you go!
You cannot upgrade from windows XP but this is understandable as XP is not a server operating system.
When upgrading from 2000 server it installs nicely and sweetly BUT it resets all of the file associations ... ...the device drivers that worked i 2000 seem to work in 2003 from the devices i have and am using.
Installing a service, for example SMTP or POP3 accounts is simple too. Double click the services and server roles and it does everything for you!
It is a lovely operating system, its a shame windows 2000 server wasn't as nice! ...
