It's the future, I've tasted it

Advantages: Excellent new interface, powerful graphics support
Disadvantages: Needs a powerful PC and compatibility for existing software

Microsoft Windows Vista As you may be aware Microsoft have recently launched a new version of its Windows Operating System (OS) under the name Windows Vista. If you're buying a new PC chances are you'll receive one with Vista loaded, if you bought a PC in the last two or three months you are probably entitled to a free upgrade (from the PC supplier, not Microsoft). Anyone who bought a half decent machine in the last 12 - 15 months will need to seriously ...
...matrix is available on the Microsoft website but for now I'll concentrate on the domestic versions. There are two ways to install a new version of Windows: via an upgrade where you run the installation with your existing OS running, or via a clean install where you reformat your hard drive before installing from start up. The upgrade path allows you to retain all your data, settings and user accounts (as well as all the clutter and malware) and is ...

...the most amazing software that Microsoft has ever published. It is just amazing and after you finish reading the review you must think the same as well. I actually learnt about Vista before it was published in the shops because I work in one of the biggest electronic shops (I won't say which one), so basically they wanted me to know all about Vista in case if the customers came in and asked me. I got windows Vista with my new Advent Laptop which ...

The Buena Vista Social Club

Advantages: Latest OS, some nice features, looks and feels a lot nicer
Disadvantages: Compatibilty, still some bugs, possible system shock, need a decent spec machine

...Now once you've seen one Microsoft install you've seen them all. The only difference with this one is that it's been tarted up a bit. All in all, including drivers for my hardware I was looking at around an hour and a bit. The initial install takes about 40 minutes, but always add a bit more time because there will always be something that needed drivers (in this case the graphics cards). So reboot and off we go and see what it's like. Well it's ...
...screen resolutions. Something else Microsoft have included is the side-bar. One of my pet-hates is these things. I do admit that they occasionally have their uses, but I just don't like them. Once again this is down to personal preference, and it can be customised with 'gadgets'. Gadgets are basically add-ons for the side bar. Anything from stock-tickers, to weather forecasts to analogue clocks can be added. I think Microsoft have tried to stop ...

...are alternatives out there and Microsoft know that, that is why I feel they just skimp past the effort that goes into the creation of some of their operating systems. Vista is the new ME by the way, meaning there is already a better version available that promises to be less resource hungry and more stable! If you're an XP user, wait for Windows 7 before the big upgrade!!! ...

Windows Vista Home Premium

Advantages: Speed, Durabliity, Function, less memory use & ease of Use
Disadvantages: Some product in-compatible

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium is far better that any version of windows I have used, to start at the beginning the installation is more automated and easier, making a quicker installation, although in my opinion I would not recommend an upgrade, but moreover a clean install, I would also recommend you installing Microsoft compatibility software, which can be downloaded from their website. If there is incompatible software, its a nightmare ...

Microsoft has just grown up...

Advantages: easy to use, set up, extra features, the list goes on and on
Disadvantages: few slight glitches-few minor impracticalities, nothing major

...and once again looks great. Microsoft has paid great attention to graphic detail, and it really does show. The new start-bar looks quite cool too, a change from the old solid coulors of previous operating system. You can now choose to have them semi-transparent, which is sometimes good, but sometimes makes it look a little dirty, such as if you have yellow desktop background under a black startbar it looks like a mucky brown, though this is easy ...

Possibly Microsoft's best OS yet... But needs work

Advantages: - New useful features - Interface
Disadvantages: - Stability - Price

I've had Vista since just after Easter, when my old computer broke. I didn't buy Vista, but had to have it because all new computers came with it. I wasn't really keen on the idea of getting Vista, I was worried about stability, lagging and compatibility problems, although these aren't necessarily as bad as I was expecting, Vista definately has some stability problems. As I bought this computer with Vista preinstalled, I can't give any information ...

Looking over the Vista towards a better future.

Advantages: The most beautiful Windows GUI ever! And all of the features..
Disadvantages: Occasional annoyance, probably my short temper!

Ok, Lets start at the very beginning. XP was doing just fine on my machine, until it decided that it would just die on me one late afternoon august last year. So what do you do when this unfortunate series of failures happen in your computer? REBUILD! Well I did anyway... I put in a new cpu, ram and hard drive, and to top it all off Vista Home Premium. Windows or Mac?

Advantages: Design, ease of use
Disadvantages: Slower than XP,

Introduction A new Windows? How exciting. At first I thought that it was about time that Gates had done so. XP was a great Windows, however there came a point when I felt that it was not updated enough to match the standards of the ever changing world of technology around us. Having purchased my Sony Vaio which came with Vista, it felt like I was starting to learn the windows interface, all over again. The truth is, it is pretty similar to XP, but ...
...come with the previous Windows. Not to mention the 3D games and fancy folder designs. Windows or Mac? I couldn't help noticing the fact that Vista shared quite a few similarities with Macs. The fancy fade in and out screening was already familiar to me. I believe that Windows had probably nicked a few ideas from Mac when they were on the Design board. I personally think that Windows took plenty of Mac features and created their own version of revolutionary ...

Windows Vista the best OS at this Time

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Costs a bit too much and needs to be modified to play old games

{Into} Windows Vista is one of the most powerful operating systems to date. The Graphic user interface has changed to a newer style compared to the pervious windows such as XP and 2000. {Added features in home Premium compared to basic} Windows Vista Home Premium is the most recommend one for Home users as it contains software such as Media centre, Windows DVD Maker and other media applications. {Problems with older programmes} Windows Vista can't ...

Nice new OS, Needs a little more work.

Advantages: Cool look, Aero Function, Flip 3D, Sidebar
Disadvantages: Incompatibility, Some programs unchanged

Windows Vista, Home premium. Ahh the wonders of computers, or just the wonder of stress? Whether or not, it was all worth it! On my Vista install I decided just to upgrade, so I could keep all my files. First I thought that it was way slow (Because I've only got minimum 512MB RAM) It seems very slow, when doing virus check and demanding programs but using the internet and messenger services seem fine. To max the experience I decided to buy some ram, ...

A few problems upon installation appeared, the Nvidia graphics software were not supported, but I fixed this by downloading to the new Vista software of it (Thank you Nvidia, for being Vista compatible!) I'm also running into problems, with programs being blocked at boot up, I have yet to fix this problem. Thats 1 Mark down for my vista experience level. When I'd finished sorting things out (Messing with setting etc) I decided ...

The Vista I Want To See

Advantages: Improvement On XP
Disadvantages: Occassional Reliability Issues, But Likely To Be Very Few And Far Between On High End Computer

Windows Vista was onr of the most ill-recieved systems ever, with criticisms coming from left right and centre, both from critics and users. But then in today's world, little that is new is ever well-recieved and as this is one of the most used pieces of software around, i think that getting it right should be a main priority. But i am here to perhaps quell any fears taht some may b having about switching to vista. Firstly, this is a great operating ...
...and icons of the XP era, although that is one of the msot popular ever. The graphics and icons on this are great and the smoothness and ettention to dtail on the windows are great, with the see through bars and great reflecting toolbars. Thus, if you want something that looks good on your big computer screen, then look no further. Another helpful feature that is added to this addition is the use of 'breadcrumbs', which is to say that when you open ...

I can say the zipped file caused problems and Vista kept questioning the safety of the file and blocking installation, no matter how many times I asked it to proceed. Windows Vista - read this before upgrading

Advantages: Looks great, easy to use
Disadvantages: Made my PC slow. older hardware and software not compatible.

I installed this on my PC as an upgrade from Windows XP. My computer is above the minimum spec for this product, with 1.25Gb Ram, a 2GHz processor, and a 128Mb graphics card. I was impressed with the visual appearance, and ease of use of Vista. There are lots of clear help menus, and wizards to help install hardware - you can just plug a lot of things in and use them straight away. The Media center makes it easy to use a TV Tuner Card and keep track ...
...Computer. Home Networking is easy too. Thats the good bits over - now for my bad experiences. My PC has a few older pieces of Hardware and i found it difficult to find the correct device drivers to make them work in Vista. Also some of my softwarer wasn't compatible with Vista - Nero 6 is one example. The improved, and impressive, visual aspects of Vista look great but they slowed my computer down over time. If you use a Wireless card to connect ...
