...Now once you've seen one Microsoft install you've seen them all. The only difference with this one is that it's been tarted up a bit. All in all, including drivers for my hardware I was looking at around an hour and a bit. The initial install takes about 40 minutes, but always add a bit more time because there will always be something that needed drivers (in this case the graphics cards).
So reboot and off we go and see what it's like. Well it's ... ...screen resolutions.
Something else Microsoft have included is the side-bar. One of my pet-hates is these things. I do admit that they occasionally have their uses, but I just don't like them. Once again this is down to personal preference, and it can be customised with 'gadgets'. Gadgets are basically add-ons for the side bar. ...are alternatives out there and Microsoft know that, that is why I feel they just skimp past the effort that goes into the creation of some of their operating systems. Vista is the new ME by the way, meaning there is already a better version available that promises to be less resource hungry and more stable! Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium is far better that any version of windows I have used, to start at the beginning the installation is more automated and easier, making a quicker installation, although in my opinion I would not recommend an upgrade, but moreover a clean install, I would also recommend you installing Microsoft compatibility software, which can be downloaded from their website.
If there is incompatible software, its a nightmare ... ...viewing or for sending to Microsoft for analysis, although Microsoft still recommend you invert in a antivirus program to give your computer 100% protection.

...and once again looks great. Microsoft has paid great attention to graphic detail, and it really does show. The new start-bar looks quite cool too, a change from the old solid coulors of previous operating system. You can now choose to have them semi-transparent, which is sometimes good, but sometimes makes it look a little dirty, such as if you have yellow desktop background under a black startbar it looks like a mucky brown, though this is easy ... ...were never the best of combinations anyway-sorry to anyone who likes them together. All in all, the Graphics are amazing though I would ook for a good graphics card, my laptop has a 128mb dedicated graphics NVidia GeForce graphics card and everything looks super on it. Either NVidia or ATI, I presume will br good, however I personally think that NVidia are better than ATI, but that is just me. Whatever you do, don't go for an intel media graphics ...

I've had Vista since just after Easter, when my old computer broke. I didn't buy Vista, but had to have it because all new computers came with it. Ok, Lets start at the very beginning. XP was doing just fine on my machine, until it decided that it would just die on me one late afternoon august last year. So what do you do when this unfortunate series of failures happen in your computer? REBUILD! Well I did anyway... I put in a new cpu, ram and hard drive, and to top it all off Vista Home Premium. I had heard that it was a dream to work with, and so that I could get the full benefits of 4gb's ... ...upon release was very poor for the 64 bit version. But since Service Pack 1 has been released, most of my hardware and software problems have dissolved into thin air.
However upon release Vista had less security threats than XP did when that was released thanks to the new and improved windows security systems, the windows firewall has more options now and everything is sooooo soooo much easier to find with windows quick search feature. This feature ...

Introduction
A new Windows? How exciting. At first I thought that it was about time that Gates had done so. XP was a great Windows, however there came a point when I felt that it was not updated enough to match the standards of the ever changing world of technology around us. Having purchased my Sony Vaio which came with Vista, it felt like I was starting to learn the windows interface, all over again. I couldn't help noticing the fact that Vista shared quite a few similarities with Macs. The fancy fade in and out screening was already familiar to me. Windows Vista, Home premium. Ahh the wonders of computers, or just the wonder of stress? Whether or not, it was all worth it! On my Vista install I decided just to upgrade, so I could keep all my files. First I thought that it was way slow (Because I've only got minimum 512MB RAM) It seems very slow, when doing virus check and demanding programs but using the internet and messenger services seem fine. To max the experience I decided to buy some ram, ... ...should help a little.
A few problems upon installation appeared, the Nvidia graphics software were not supported, but I fixed this by downloading to the new Vista software of it (Thank you Nvidia, for being Vista compatible!) I'm also running into problems, with programs being blocked at boot up, I have yet to fix this problem. Thats 1 Mark down for my vista experience level.

Windows Vista was onr of the most ill-recieved systems ever, with criticisms coming from left right and centre, both from critics and users. But then in today's world, little that is new is ever well-recieved and as this is one of the most used pieces of software around, i think that getting it right should be a main priority. The graphics and icons on this are great and the smoothness and ettention to dtail on the windows are great, with the see through bars and great reflecting toolbars. ...Vista. This is not really microsoft at fault here, but other hardware manufacturers who have not got their necessary software ready yet. On this new system I had built, the sound would not work. The onboard sound device on the motherboard being the Realtek AC97 chip.
The included CD with the motherboard had drivers for the chipset, but not vista drivers. So I had to search the Realtek website for help. Fortunately they had updated the drivers for ... ...were tqo options to download: a zipped file OR the executable fiel. I can say the zipped file caused problems and Vista kept questioning the safety of the file and blocking installation, no matter how many times I asked it to proceed.
The complete executable file worked OK though, and sound was restored.
The PC boots up very quickly, although it should do, the hard drive is pretty empty and uncluttered.

I installed this on my PC as an upgrade from Windows XP. My computer is above the minimum spec for this product, with 1.25Gb Ram, a 2GHz processor, and a 128Mb graphics card. I was impressed with the visual appearance, and ease of use of Vista. There are lots of clear help menus, and wizards to help install hardware - you can just plug a lot of things in and use them straight away.
The Media center makes it easy to use a TV Tuner Card and keep track ... ...Computer. Home Networking is easy too.
Thats the good bits over - now for my bad experiences.
My PC has a few older pieces of Hardware and i found it difficult to find the correct device drivers to make them work in Vista. Also some of my softwarer wasn't compatible with Vista - Nero 6 is one example. The improved, and impressive, visual aspects of Vista look great but they slowed my computer down over time.
