When Microsoft built it’s first operating system over 15 years ago, I sometimes wonder if, even in their wildest dreams, they thought it would become such a market force and the main o/s to be used on the majority of the world’s computers. Yet, today they are producing the next generation of operating system. ...What's more, it seems that Microsoft is actually interested in fixing the problems, automatically prompting error reports and making the Windows Update process seamless. From the easy-t-read icons to the actually helpful Help system, there's a dreadful sense of ease of use.

I haven't even mentioned scanning yet. I spent years mastering TWAIN drivers, impressing onlookers by capturing an image in Photoshop. I got so good; sometimes I didn't even refer to the Help files. Advantages: colourful, good support and online help Disadvantages: almost everything! slow, unreliable, crashes often, inefficient, insecure
At last! Microsoft has achieved its greatest creation! How did they read our minds in such a way to provide us with the thing that we truly wanted in an operation system? Forget reliability, power, efficiency, compatibility and economy – who needs any of that when we have … pretty colours! Yes, we can now glory in the shimmering aesthetic radiance of Windows XP. Instead of dull grey, we now have vivid greens and blues; instead of bevelled edges, ... ...least this must be what Microsoft must think if they are deluded into the belief that Windows XP is actually an improvement on the earlier operating systems, because what it actually is, is a huge disappointment. It’s important to remember that when XP was released, it was so full of bugs that an upgrade was released just 6 weeks latter… then 3 weeks after that… then another 6 weeks latter. There are so many problems with the system that I can’t ...

...XP is different. Or so Microsoft will tell you. According to them, Windows XP is a MAJOR new upgrade, kind of like Windows 95 was a major upgrade from Windows 3.1. Why is it, then, that only around 15% of Windows users in Japan have upgraded? The figure is slightly higher elsewhere, but is there really any incentive to upgrade at all? After all, Microsoft hailed Windows ME as a major new upgrade to Windows 98 and those who used it found that it was ... ...time it had an overhaul. Microsoft is constantly playing 'catch-up' with Apple when it comes to this: Apple was the first company to see the design of the actual interface and computer as an art and this is no surprise seeing as the majority of Mac users are graphic designers! Advantages: internet explorer, media player, remote assistance Disadvantages: price, compatibility issues
Whenever Microsoft launches a new piece of software it says “this has to be the biggest thing since err…Windows 95,” and yes they said it for the launch of Windows XP on October 25th. The question many people will be asking is whether or not to invest in the rather high price.
**THE COST**
The standard upgrade costs £89.99 (And you need to have windows 98,2000, ME or NT already installed on your PC.)
And you'll need to buy the full version for ... ...your pocket at £259.99.
Microsoft is running a promotion, buy before 31st Jan 20002 and get £50 cash back. But the only thing is you have to purchase the standard professional version for £259.99 to be eligible.
**WHY GET IT?**
So do these extortionate prices justify what you will get? I’ve been lucky enough to have a play on my brothers ‘XP’ PC and from what I’ve seen it’s a definite NO! NO!
He upgraded from Win 98 and experienced many hardware ...

...layout of the control panel Microsoft have made it easy enough to convert back by the cick of the button called "switch to classic view" I personally prefer the new layout. Microsoft have also made changes to the use of the CTRL + ALT + DEL key combination. finally, Microsoft have added a Help centre program that allows users to search a database of FAQ's that microsof t thinks may cause users problems and seek help from this. In support of Microsoft however I am sure that other operating systems (such as Linux) have security flaws in them as well and if they became as widely used as Windows is now then they would have hackers targeting them as well.

Nannying
=======
Microsoft in general is getting worse and worse for insisting on hand-holding for every aspect of using the computer. Yes, programs are hard to fathom sometimes but it doesn’t mean we want some stupid dog telling us what to do and asking inane questions about what we are doing. Windows XP is not too bad on this score. The nanny options are there, but they can easily be disabled.
Conclusion
